Seems like they intentionally changed the way webcams work, removed some popular codecs, and then provided a registry patch to revert the behavior. Old MS would never make such drastic changes without good reason, new MS just changes shit for the hell of it.

>>56210622

Nobody uses their native webcams anyway. I've seen everyone put tape over it for some silly reason. People should just record themselves externally and then upload to the computer. I'm sure MS can fix these, anyhow.

>>56210661

I'm sure they had a good reason.

>Microsoft has confirmed that computers with the Windows 10 operating system stored on a solid-state drive and applications and data saved to a separate drive can run into issues.

>Microsoft says it is looking into a permanent solution for the problem, but in the meantime, has offered a temporary fix.

>"You can work around this issue by signing into Windows 10 using Safe Mode to move your apps and data to the same drive as your operating system," the firm posted on its forum.

Yup just copy your entire Steam folder to your SSD, no problem. Microsoft has gone completely off the rails with the rollercoaster "always updated" bullshit.

You really had nothing better to do than find 20 copies of the exact same story?

So, out of the literally millions of peripherals that Windows supports, 10 of the most meaningless are not working.
No one really cares that you can't camwhore today.

You do. You can't play the upcoming blockbusters without them.

You all had your chance to get it when it was free. Now you'll just have to suck it up, admit you were wrong, pun on your big boy boots and slap down the buckaroos necessary to get your very own legit copy of Winningdoughstens.

Non-native webcams are affected as well. We have some Ion and Logitech brand USB cams at work that will crash if you attempt to play them through their company software. Uninstall/reinstall of drivers doesn't work. Unusually, Skype may/may not work with a complete restart, but that's it.

Not that it matters for mine on Win 7, but still.

>>

Arch breaking is a meme.
Arch "breaks" for 2 reasons:
1) The system is constantly changing and some of these changes require user input. If the user ignores this, he will get unexpected behavior from his system.
2) Proprietary software that depends on outdated libraries breaks if you update Arch's libraries.

Arch doesn't randomly throw its hands up and drop you out of X for no reason.
>>
>>56211605
>"ceased to function"
The feed is just redirected somewhere else now.
>>
>>56210699
they roll out "patches" (major updates), now, that people have no way of rolling back

their entire model is flawed - you are stuck, with the whole world, waiting, until microsoft gets around to fixing the problem

it's like the surface battery drain -- they've known about the problem for years now, they've only just admitted there is a problem. They won't admit that it affects millions of users stuck with their default OS & they are "attending to things", which means they move at the speed of microsoft (a dinosaur snail)

>>
>>56211680
they missed the bug because they don't test anything. major upgrades are out there for the users to test. That is their model, that is, "beta". Microsoft quality control is out in the field, relying on their know-nothing-else users to test.
in their universe there are "always problems".
>>
>>56211680
Several insiders reported this problem months ago. They don't even bother with the data they gather.
>>
>>56211118
This desu
>>
>>56211774
correct - their major issue with the surface, they have known about for years now but, according to them "it only affects a few users" - only last week they admitted that the problem is "in software" and that they are "working on a solution" - problem in software to mean that surface batteries drain in 1/2 an hour when the thing is put away, when it is OFF, - thing cannot sleep, thing loses all data within sleep mode save. They cannot fix their major bugs -- this is the company that left internet explorer wide open permanently. Now they are rolling out "upgrades" that can't be revoked. This is only the beginning - their new model "you still have 18 days to revert to windows 7" they say.
