As long as the CPU has at least SSE3 it should handle out fine by my logic.

The 1070 is a great card. You can get one for ~$425, while the 1080 is $650-700. The performance difference is only 20% at 1440p.

I would get 3000mhz RAM (as the other anon said, make sure that your mobo can support it). It's the sweet spot and doesn't cost but a few dollars more. You'll get another 5% framerate boost.

Is it really just slots, cap quality to ensure lifetime and features such as fan control, WiFi, audio and what have you? With CPUs or GPUs you have architecture and frequency in MHz, shaders and so on which you can generally use to tell how fast a component is. Is there no such thing with mainboards? Does the chipset not make a difference in performance? Is it as simple as "your hardware fits in the slots and its not broken"?

Finding bottlenecks is a little complicated but what you should definitely try is the performance monitor from windows to log you CPU % and GPU-Z to log the GPU. Now if you timely compare them you can tell which one has more workload. If the CPU is above 80% an upgrade to the GPU wont do much good because before the card can render the graphic the CPU has to do its cycle. After that it contacts the GPU. So if your CPU is high in use, upgrade this one first. If your video card is in high use also, you will need to upgrade both but the CPU itself will benefit slightly from an upgrade in certain tasks, upgrading the GPU will only be bottlenecked.

Now while I wouldn't recommend going that route I would say that the PC case is the least important part you need to pick. With the only two concerns being airflow and will everything fit. Question about RAM:
Is there any difference between the $30 Crucial RAM and the $120 Corsair GMR RAM? I know it's more megahurtz but my Msi mobo description only lists 2133 anyway, and some of them are actually 2133MHz too so..what makes them that much more expensive?

Also relevant to my interest. I have 1333MHz 2x4GB sticks currently and 2 slots free on my board. I could upgrade them with another dual channel for only 40€. Is it worth it or should i get RAM with more frequency or other quality, in this case, is 8 quality GB enough difference or should i still aim for 16? Its pretty simple. I need to drive a high res display which has a displayport input.
My card has a DP spec 1.1a and 3 DL-DVI-I outputs, none of which will work for this (unless I buy an expensive active adapter).
To drive the display I need a DP spec 1.2 or higher output from my computer.

My solution was add a cheap card with DP 1.2+, but if it won't work then I need to get more creative.

Been asking for help with this for awhile because im really struggling. Ive got around £630 to spend on a build that can hopefully play most games at atleast medium settings. For american memefriends my max budget would be $725 (which is only £550 but VAT will bring that up to about £630 probably)

I'm looking for a standard PCI card I can use for wireless in a desktop computer, with Linux drivers that are known to work with little fuss (preferably free, but proprietary is fine too), ndiswrapper is a no-go.

I've investigated candidates that use the ath9k drivers, but products like the TL-WN951N seem to have poor signal strength or performance.

My motherboard is Gigabyte Z77X-D3H (dual bios) if it matters. My budget is less than about 30 GBP.

By law, any product sold have 3 months of warranty. The manufacturer of a motherboard warrants 12 months of warranty by itself. But the model I want has only 1 unit being sold online on the online store I use. This unit does not have any manufacturer warranty (I don't know why) anymore, just the seller 3 months warranty.

Installing win7 via usb on skylae is pretty damn difficult, given that it's vno longer important. Also the supernova NEX line has some poor reviews. G2 or gs is where its at.
If you want to save $20 tho, i recommend the seasonic m12ii 620watt. It's only bronze, but its a stable unit, fully modular with all black cables. Can't be beat in the price tier.

1) IIRC that RAM doesn't come with a heatsink, might want to get something else
2) 2x4gb will be better than 1x8gb

Also, fully modular power supplies are always nice, especially if you're concerned with aesthetics, as you can order your own custom cables.
