I want to backup all my important personal documents just in case (e.g. house fire, flood, evacuation, ..). anyone have a clue what I should look for? what kind of paper is both durable and light and where can I get it? is a laser printer the way to go?
any advice welcome

I have a durable safe. I still want copies in case of an evactuation, should I be unable to get to my safe.
Store it in The Cloud®©™

If you don't have the 30 additional seconds to open your safe and move your shit into a bag I doubt you'll have enough time to get to your copies. Unless you store them outside your home, obviously.
As for personal documents, you can take a picture of them and just store them on an SD card. Not sure if you can do this with passports, but other cards and documents can be shown in digital form to authorities, hospitals or anywhere where you'd need them.

what if I can't reach my safe but another location where I stored copies? questioning the need of backups isn't helpful in any way.
