They use Cherry MX switches and have solid build quality, so yes. I like the backlight options too, if you take the time to learn the horrible software. Since you didn't assemble it yourself from the board up with a bunch of gaudy pastel colored caps on it, everyone here will shit all over it.
>>
>>56203069
exactly.
to be fair though, some of the models are pricey.
the software is a bit of a PITA but it has more features than ill ever need and once you use it for a month or two you figure it out well enough
>>
>>56202956
I've always thought they're kinda plasticy-feeling to type on, but they're not bad. My friend who owns one swears by it.

Go to the nearest Best Buy; they all have k70s on display that you can test out.

Those are wildly different keebs. Thre HHKB is Topre switches while the KBT uses Cherry MX.

If you've never owned a mech, get a switch tester before you go dropping $200. There's dozens of switch styles and finding a switch style you like is a big first step

>>
>>56205039
The Ducky Shine 5 seems like the better option if you're not particular about stabilizers or the mini USB connection. If you're swapping keycaps, you'll appreciate Cherry stabilizers a lot more than Costar.

i actually did it, now i'll just have to wait for it to arrive

i'm so glad i didn't give up the rgb lights. the only real disadvantage is probably that this doesn't have the raw black POM keycaps since it has to let light through. sure, the non-RGB version has gateron switches but the noppoo switches also seem to be pretty consistent and and people seem to actually prefer noppoos over cherry mx.
>>
>>56205097
Honestly it's just a fuckin keyboard to me, couldnt care less about technical stuff as long as it's generally a quality built item and this code seems to be pretty solid
>>
>>56205391
You'll begin to hate Costar stabilizers when you start to swap keycaps. Bitch to put on and a bitch to take off. You can also get away with not lubing Cherry stabilizers but with Costars, they'll get irritatingly rattly.

>>
>>56205348
I'd return this board asap, I bought one similar from England the other week and they aren't even using MX Cherry's anymore, they're using their own keyswitch variant.

The build quality has gotten worse and overall? You're just asking for a bad time in all fairness.
>>
>>56202956
I have the Corsair K65 and let me tell you, even compared to one of the worst boards in terms of build quality, QA and just overall feel (Noppoo Choc Mini (2013 version)), they are terrible.

They use a very low quality ABS Keycap, the legends aren't even lasered on, they'ye literally fucking stickers. The quality of the metal on the board is nice, but apart from that? Absolutely fucking horrendous board.

Honestly, buy anything else apart from a Corsair board, they cater to the "gaming" market because a lot of gamers don't know any better, but if you visit any mech board enthusiast forums, you'll quickly learn that the Corsair brand of keyboards are a gigantic pile of shit.
>>
>>56206301
what's wrong with their own switches? and yeah i'm aware of the build quality but it's just going to sit on my desk, i'm not moving it around in a backpack
>>
>>56206328
Their own switches are based of either Kailh switches or gaterons I believe, they're not as enjoyable as traditional MX Cherry switches and because of that, the shelf-life and quality of those switches is diminshed.

In regards to the build quality, bad build quality = bad board, it'll feel cheap, typing will not be an enjoyable experience and so on and so forth.

If you really want the board, go ahead, but a lot of people have problems with NCM's around the 6-month mark.

>>
>>56206385
Surprisingly, they're not that bad. If I did get a board from Logitech, I'd rather TKL board, but overall? Not a completely shitty board.

7/10
>>
>>56206406
edit:

the Qpad MK-50 is shit though.
>>
>>56206406
What are the excact downsides?
>>
>>56206342
which keyboard did you buy and which switches? people are saying the noppoo blue switches manufactured by gaote are comparable to cherry mx blue. and i really want this layout and rgb so i'll probably manage with the build quality.
>>
>>56206072
reds and i don't even like linears that much.
i got browns on my first mech because of fucks like >>56206220 who will happily repeat the brown-all-purpose meme without any personal experience.
honestly browns feel like wobbly reds, the "tactile bump" is barely noticeable.
>>
>>56202874

why are mechanicals are still so expensive? demand is still huge? or costs are huge?
>>
>>56206536
what price range are you looking at? some chinkboards are fairly affordable
>>
>>56206536
production costs mostly. when you go rubber dome you are replacing 104 individual components containing multiple moving parts with 1 printed plastic sheet and 1 rubber mat

many mechanical boards are overpriced though
>>
>>56206385
"Gaming" boards tend to have "sharp" edges on the keycaps. My Model M, while not as crispy click, has the softest and comfiest keycaps.

A matter of preference.
>>
Guys Should i buy a Filco or a WASD keyboard?

the price seems reasonable. the quality probably isn't the best but it could be decent enough assuming you aren't a keyboard aficionado. keep in mind you're paying around a $10 premium for the cherry mx switches, /mkg/ prefers gateron switches which are cheaper.

>>
>>56207241
Why? Just because i like that the set looks cool? Dude I I wanted your opinion on the keyboard. Thanks for being a faggot.
>>
>>56207192
The caps look decent, PBT is the material they're made from vs the cheap thin ABS that WASD uses.

They turn shiny after use so it looks like you have permanent cheeto dust fingers rubbing on them. That said, I'd still get the Filco for the other parts (case, PCB, quality control)
>>
>>56207269
Cool, I canceled it then. Since im new to mechanical keyboards I want my first keyboard to be near perfection. How is the ducky series, as in built quality. If I still did not make up my mind by today Im just gonna get the Filco and try to find another set of Key Caps. Do you know which Keycaps material is the best as in durability and quality? I dont really want a keycap that wears off or gives that permanent cheeto dust effect.
>>
>>56207353
POM and PBT are both miles better than ABS. Ducky is right up there with Filco. They have models with both ( see https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_list&c=111 ) so if you're not set on buying a new set of caps, the PBT models would be the cheapest route.

Perfection can get into the thousands, but these are a very good options all-around for most.
>>
>>56207409
Cool, thanks man. Last question then I am done. It seems Ducky shine 6 is going to be released in 2017. Do you think I should wait for Ducky Shine 6 or Just get the 5?

PBT has a more coarse feeling as opposed to the smoothness of ABS caps. It also takes a lot longer period of time to develop shine. They're generally regarded as better, but exceptions and personal opinion both exist.

I live in Austria and my budget is 100€ tops, what mech keyboard should I buy, considering I want brown switches and a really solid build quality.

I've already researched a bit, and come to the conclusion that there are literally no vendors selling "no name" keyboards directly to austria without paying huge import fees (namely Azio MGK1-K, VM90 etc)

Corsair K70.
Razer shit I don't want to buy.

South america, things are a bit too expensive here due to stupid import taxes (they range from 50 to 100% of the product value if I buy anything from amazon).

That's why the Tesoro Excalibur TS-G7NL seemed great, may be chink shit but from what I googled it's real cherry mx red switches and they cost less than half for a corsair K70 (my other choice 2bh since I don't want more razer shit).

Should I?

What's the difference between "Brown Soft" (in the name of this product) and regular Cherry MX Brown switches?

Also, anyone else here using a German QWERTZ keyboard with a normal (English US) QWERTY layout? Is it even noticeable? I don't really look at the keyboard when typing, just asking if there's some extra buttons or something.

Thoughts on the Blackwidow by Razer?

This was my first mech purchase about 4 years ago. it was like $100.

>all keys still work
>very accessible making it easy to clean if needed
>adjustable brightness
>macro keys

This keyboard is also extremely sturdy but it's also pretty fucking heavy and not designed for travel. I was recently looking into corsair's stuff but the more i look into it, the less i want to buy it, it looks like it's built cheap and wouldnt last more than 2 years.

I dont want to be a snob about keyboards and buy some off brand shit that's only popular because not everybody has it. I want a legitimately good mechanical keyboard but it's always "get corsair" or "get razer" and then proceeds the fanboy arguments.

This keyboard still works and what not but I have about 9 grand to mess with on a whole new setup so i really want to go all out. Plus I want to give this to a buddy of mine.
>>
>>56212277
I bought one at a goodwill for $5, cleaned it and sold it for $30. It was really good for that.
>>
>>56212277
i like the look of it but i dont like giving razer money even tough they have some decent products here and there.

>>
>>56207021
if you're looking for a specific make/model/configuration it could be hard to find it second hand, but if you're not too picky then sure it could be worth looking for them, you could look on geekhack and maybe reddit, a lot of these keyboard enthusiast have a whole bunch of keyboards so the ones they sell haven't necessarily been used much and they've probably been well taken care of.

Corsair is shit compared to that. It's fully modular. "modular" as in the switches and the leds come out and may be swapped, so you can have blue switch keyboard with browns on qwert and reds on the arrows.

Also never have to worry about it breaking.
>>
>>56214114
sounds like a meme, it's not a huge deal to have to desolder switches, it's not like you swap them every day

i really, really like my razer scarab (and razer deathadder), the glide is super smooth, if it wears out i'll get another one, but i guess there's nothing wrong with a good soft mouse mat
>>
>>56214203
It's a big deal when you lose the warranty when you try to desolder them.

Seriously, why is corsair better than this? The switches seem decent enough, according to the newegg reviews. And according to the specs they should feel even better than cherries, because of only 1.5mm actuation point.

Stop talking shit. Everything in your post was a lie.
Corsair keycaps are painted, first of all.

I'll grant you they're not the thickest plastic, but they're intended to have light shone through them so no fucking shit they're not solid opaque laser-etched 2mm thick ABS, you fucking mongoloid.

I have a K65 RGB. I have owned Steelseries, Rosewill, and Cherry mech keyboards, as well as several Model Ms. Corsair makes a fine keyboard, and they've definitely improved massively since their first releases. I've yet to have any issues with the LEDs or switches and I have had it now for almost a year.

The software sucks but you can save your favorite color configuration to the memory of the board, and never have to use it again unless you want the typing effects.

They're thin shit ABS. Vortex makes doubleshot keycaps that are translucent out of PBT and POM, and they let the light through perfectly fine while also being 1.47mm thick.

Just too bad that you can't replace the stock caps on the corsair thanks to that non-standard bottom row.

I'm just not enough of a keyboard autist to care. If the keys go down when I press them and make the letter I typed then I don't give a shit how thick the plastic is or whatever technique was used to put the letter on it, because neither of those things affect the quality of the switch or how well they were attached to the PCB.

USERS OF 65% OR LESS:

I'm considering a pok3r for my next board. All I've had before are Full-Size and TKLs. I use arrow keys extensively when typing, so I'm not sure if I should go 65% or 60%. Can anyone with a 65/60/less chime in with how they use their arrow keys? Do you wish you had dedicated keys sometimes, or is a function layer natural now?

Thanks!

I'm totally new to mechanical keyboards and didn't really understand the benefits before looking into the subject and watching some Youtube videos explaining the differences. I currently have a crappy Logitech K750 so I guess anything would be an upgrade but I would still appreciate some help in choosing what to get.

I would prefer a keyboard with as light caps as possible (i.e. register as fast as you touch them) and without tactile feedback. I would also like the keyboard to be as quiet as possible so I'm assuming red caps would be most suitable for my preferences? Something I don't really understand though are O-rings. Do they actually effect the noise made when pressing the keys or do they just "raise the feedback level"? Can you use multiple/thicker O-rings to raise the feedback level even higher?

Another thing that's hard to understand for someone without experience with mechanical keyboards is the huge ammount of keyboards available. Are there even any major differences or is it mostly down to preference, style etc.? Are all keyboards compatible with all types of switches etc.?

I'll post in accordance with the guidelines and hopefully someone would be so kind as to help me find something that would suit me.

>Budget: €200
>Location: Europe
>Switch type: Silent and soft so Red I guess...?

>get switch tester consisting of whites, greens, clears, and tactile greys
>greens feel lighter than whites

I thought greens were supposed to be heavier than whites? I'm guessing that maybe I'm getting the perception that they're lighter as a result of the click being a bit more pronounced (that is to say, the click sort of masks the push a bit), and maybe because they're a bit snappier when lifting up? Definitely having a hard time picking between the two switches, though, they both feel great. Clears are really good too, although the tactile grey is way too stiff for my liking.

Putting the switches upside down is common practice if you have LEDs, or even if you don't. It doesn't really make a difference which way you put them in.

Both Red and Brown switched have a lighter actuation point, and have no click. Browns still retain that nice bump to mark the actuation point, but with O-rings you could reduce the noise output tremendously.

>You would just hate because I'm about taking notes and getting good grades and you're about status updates and taking Facebook quizzes
Considering he only had a sentence and no part of it contained Facebook...which, I might add, hasn't been cool for quite a while. If you're trying to be on the hipster market try complaining about reddit or Instagram (which is still kinda old now). I mean, you do realize you're trying to accuse someone posting on a technology board of an image board site of being "normal", while you're the only one who has picture proof of being on a more "in" site.

If you want to be hip by being "out", don't go to an "out" place to accuse people of being "in". That other guy is also being a complete ass about this, but at least he doesn't pretend he is so much better.

Deskthority on popular keyboard layouts: https://deskthority.net/wiki/ANSI_vs_ISO
Layout for us brits is usually ISO-UK.

For ISO TKLs, there's fair amount of choice, especially for your budget.

Some good ones:

Cooler Master QFR/QFS/Novatouch
Ducky TKLs (Shine, Zero)
Filco Majestouch
Realforce 88UB
WASD/Code maybe

If you were willing to give ANSI a shot, there's a bit more choice e.g. Varmilo, Leopold etc.

For switches, I'd recommend getting a tester. All of the keyboards I've listed (except the Novatouch and Realforce) come in many different flavours of MX-style switches. The CM Novatouch and RFs have their own type of switches that may be worth investigating
>>
>>56223289
This pretty much. Seriously if you need to look at your keyboard ever to do anything ,you're a turbodweeb loser.

How shit are my life choices here?
>>
>>56223795
Why Browns though?
>>
>>56223818

I hear they are a good balance for typing and gaming. I will mostly being using my PC for work/school work (e.g. programing and pressing all of the shortcuts) but I will be playing some CS and the like from time to time.

Are Browns super bad? The only mechanical keyboards I have used before was a razer one my friend had that I didn't care for so I legitimately have no idea.
>>
>>56223866
They're a shitty compromise between reds and clears. Better to pick one or the other (reds for super light smoothness, clears for heavier/much more tactile)
>>
>>56223887

Well this keyboard has the option to use Reds as well. Would Reds be really bad for typing as that is my main concern. Also do you know anything about this keyboard/Filco? I am looking for something good quality, functioning, and fairly plain looking. I am looking to get work done not "show off my gamer cred". Also thanks for the advice so far.
>>
>>56223935
Reds aren't bad for typing, but I prefer clears for the tactile feedback. I like blues for typing too, but dunno if you care about the noise.

Filcos are definitely good quality, and you can find many owners/reviews in archives of these threads. If you want other options, Ducky, KUL, and Tex are similar quality.

Thanks a ton you saved me a headache and some wasted money. I'll take a look at those other brands you mentioned but so far it looks like I will go with the one above but using Reds.
>>
>>56223887
This isn't true at al. Reds are light and linear, blacks are heavy and linear. Browns are light and tactile, clears are heavy and tactile. Blues are light and clicky, greens are heavy and clicky.

>>56224112
Please read my reply to jackass above.
Browns are fine, in fact they're one of the two most popular for typing (along with blues). Clears are fairly hard to find and are up until recently were relegated to the space bar and ESC keys on boards with overall brown switches.

And reds are a really, really recent development. If anything they're a compromise between black and brown/blue. They're linear, so unless you want to always bottom our your keys while typing you should learn to be really good at pushing just enough.

Browns have a very nice bump to indicate the actuation point, and since they're fairly light they're suitable for the majority of people. Clears are great, but definitely not better or even as well known as browns. Please don't listen to random hipsters.
>>
>>56223866
Yeah I know that lots of reviewers recommend Browns as the best compromise for both gaming and standard typing. While I was looking for a new mech keyboard, lots of people here suggested me either Reds or Blues. I chose Blues at the end and I'm super satisfied with them: I play fps games that require quite a good precision and rapid movements and Blues are great! I like their sound and they're really comfortable. Do Filco keyboards have PS/2 adapters btw? If they do, I recommend to use it.
>>
>>56224196

You just repeated what he said, idort. They're reds with a tactile bump that feels like dirt.
>>
>>56224230
The biggest downside of blues is that the actuation and de-actuation points are different.
>>
>>56224196
Apparently the only thing shittier than brown's tactile bump is your reading comprehension

>>56224443
No, since blues are actually tactile.

Browns feel like reds with dirt in them unless you type slower than a snail in a pit of salt.
>>
>>56224443
Who said anything about blues being anything like browns? I said reds are smooth and browns have a shitty tactile bump (they do). Both are the same weight, and clears are heavier browns with a better tactile bump.

You said nothing contrary just threw an autismal shitfit with technical terms to confuse the guy.

I liked that mouse pad a lot. After some abuse mine started to have glass dust coming off everywhere after a few months so I gave it away. It was supposed to replace my razer destructor mousepad. Razer released the destructor 2 so I bought that after I got rid of the artisan. The original destructor mouse pad lasted me so many years the only problem was the retarted gaymer shape but then they fixed it so its perfect now. Im not quite sure if it will be as durable as the older one though.

I want shorter springs with around 50 cN force at actuation so that the graph would be steeper. Cherry springs are about 14mm long while the casing has ~8.7mm space for it. I want the switch to start with lower force and end with higher.

I have Kailh reds keyboard and one Cherry brown (on switch tester) and when I first received the tester I thought browns feel just like grainy reds, with the bump barely noticeable. Now I feel like trying out a full brown keyboard for some reason. Maybe because I ordered Gateron brown switches since they are supposed to be more smooth and with more tactile bump. Has anyone tried out the Magicforce 68? I don't have any previous experience with mechanical keyboards and figured it's cheap enough to just try out. After a bit of reading up and watching some comparison videos I think I'll probably feel the most comfortable with red switches. I started looking for a cheap Magicforce and found one on Amazon, although it says "Kailh Red switch (Cherry MX equivalent), Pressing force: 45g + -20g".

I know Kailh is generally lower quality (although some people say they don't notice the difference) but how the hell can it be +/-20g? I'm buying reds because I want light switches and I'd hardly consider 65g light...

Do all cheaper switches have this huge variation? If so, are other brands like Cherry more exact?
