The command line interface is really nice for programming. The entire environment is extremely configurable to your own needs if you are a decent programmer. In an ideal world, everyone knows how to program and everyone makes the most out of their computing environment by using linux and frequently writing their own tools. That's how it was supposed to be, but these days 99% of computer users today are generally "illiterate".
If you can't write a line of code, then linux will offer little to no benefits to you.
