Those are not pad specs but you dont plan on playing 4k resolution I hope. It would play games fine enough 1080p though. But dont expect to turn up any graphics settings.

That isn't a great price. My Alienware with similar specs (970m and 32 GiB 2400 MHz RAM) was 500 dollars cheaper. I spent about 300 to upgrade the ssd to a 950 Pro after the fact but it still came out cheaper.

The 960M is roughly the equivalent of a desktop GTX 460

The new laptops with 1060/1070/1080 cards aren't cut down mobile versions, and will perform at ~90% of the desktop performance i.e. will be over 5x as good as the 960M

The newer laptops with these cards also don't cosr more, so definitely don't buy one with an older generation mobile graphics card.

What does /g/ think of the ASUS Zenbook?

particularly this model. I wanna buy this as a gift for a not so tech savy user and I wanna make sure I get a good laptop for them. Do these generally have good build quality and shit? This user will be going to college.

If you insist however, you should wait for the new crop of mobile gpus.

(OP here) None of those people were actually me. I would prefer 15" for portability and both Alienware and XPS are Dell. I think the price difference is probably in build quality rather than different markups.
