Can't get my motoG 2nd generation to connect to windows 10 (Pro N version (N comes without windows media player)) via USB on a homebuilt desktop Asus Ranger motherboard. When I reboot into 8.1 can connect and transfer files. Using a homebuilt windows 7 desktop it works perfectly. In all cases the phone charges and gives option to connect for transferring files. Installed motorola device manger. Installed windows component supposedly enabling such interfacing. No change, phone does not appear in explorer.

how could I view or fetch the contents of a url without having that actively open in my browser.

Yup, you just carefully wipe the partition where you installed the OS, use a different filesystem if required.
Depending on the OS you might even get a warning that an OS is installed on that partition and if you are sure.

I moved my desktop and when I started it up in my new place, it worked fine. Then after a while, it shut itself off. So, I turned it back on, and it worked fine, but then shut itself off, and then refused to start.

I popped it open and discovered that the problem was that a zip tie had snapped and gotten caught in the CPU fan, preventing it from spinning. So I'd been rolling with no CPU fan, and it had been shutting itself off because it was too hot.

Did I permanently damage it? How stupid am I?

it's now running at 30 C when it normally runs at like 20 C, but to my knowledge 30 C still isn't actually very hot.

As for me? I don't play much besides CSGO, some Dark Souls and rFactor. An R7 360 was enough for me, which is about the same as a 750ti which can run your games at mid settings and modest resolutions.
