Why does a XX60 card cost as much today that a XX80 costed a few years ago?

Why did GPU prices skyrocketed this much?
>>
>>56168603
It doesn't.

The 1060 is $249 and the 980 was $549
>>
GTX 280 was $650
GTX 260 was $400

whats your point?
>>
1GB GTX 460 released at $229 (768MB at $200) to much fanfare.

GTX 1060 is $249. 3GB 1060 is $200.
>>
The prices of the highest end cards have increased. The mid range stuff hasn't budged.
>>
Inflation is a thing my dude. Games should be costing more than 60$ and maybe microtransactions would not have picked up like they did.
>>
>>56168653
I bought an 1GB Gigabyte SoC Gtx 460 for 30k, when the top card was 100k now an 1060 is 91k and an 1080 is 230k
>>
>>56168679
Inflation is a thing, but not a 300% thing

The HD 4890 was $249 ($278 in 2016). It was on par with the GTX 285 (which retailed for $360 in 2009 - that's $400 today)

Somewhat related to OP, my point here is that GPU prices have gone up.
Back then you could the best GPU on the market for $249. Today, a GTX 1080 will set you back $600.
>>
Only nerds play games on PC these days. Time was, you could convince everyone to effectively fund your gayming by telling them they needed a GPU to browse facebook. Now, integrated GPUs are good enough for everyone but people who fell for the 4k meme so the market is basically tiny.

Nice piece of disinformation and fallacies, upvoted.

Just a year later the HD 5870 came out for $380.

Are you in any way contradicting me?

8800 Ultra was $830
>>
>>56168863
you're acting like it happened this year, prices have fluctuated for forever.

The HD 2900XT was a $400 GPU, then the HD 3870 introduced low priced high end cards with a $220 MSRP, then the HD 4870 at $250, but then the HD 5870 went back up to the $400 range.

My point is there has never been a consistent period where GPU pricing stayed the same.
