So in Linux, if you remove a package some residue configs stay left over. Not saying it's hard to track them down but how does *BSD approach to this?

OpenBSD is normally pretty good about this.
It's good at removing orphaned depencies, too.
Sometimes when you uninstall a program it will tell you that you should delete some things.
