Plenty of info but mostly for win7.

You can also find there some hacked gpu drivers which speed up things considerately.

I use their mouse for 50$ for 7 years already. It never broke, is very comfortable and side buttons with numbers are neat in programming. (This button instantly writes that phrase. Saves a ton of time)

using an eee-pc 1005px. The only browser that is remotely usable is Midori. Check it out, it's not bad.
All in all most webpages have become too bloated for these computers though.

Don't bother downgrading even further by trying lubuntu by the way, I've tried it and it doesn't feel faster than my current manjaro xfce.

How are the Thinkpad X100,200,300 for experimenting with Linux?
>>
>>56141843
replacing the cells in the battery and the ccfl in the screen (both are the most likely parts to fail over time) are both rather cheap and easy to do
you can even use higher capacity cells and replace the ccfl with an led strip which uses less power
>>
>>56141883
Wish I'd known that a few years ago when I dumped the old thing.
>>
>>56141861
The X200 is good. Especially for libreboot. If you want to compile everything yourself I'd go for a bit faster machine like the X220

WHy have these died off?

Tablets would actually be decent if they had focused on expansion bays for connecting to external devices. (even external GPU bays, they might have taken off if they had a damn connection standard)

I still have a Sony one sitting on a cabinet beside me.
And a floppy and disc drive.

Is this 12.5" EliteBook small and cute enough?
It's what you'd get if a ThinkPad and MBP mated.
>>
>>56141923
By experimenting I meant just exploring it cause Im still a fucking noob and far from writing my own distro or whatever.

Why the 200 over the 100? Isn't the 100 the newest?
>>
>>56141700
Thinkpad X62
>>
>>56141987
Yes but the general consensus is that the old keyboard is far surperior. Also you get more bang for your buck since it's so cheap.

By compiling I meant a distro like gentoo, newfriend, not actually writing your own distro.

I recommend you start by downloading distros like Mint, Debian and fedora and give them all a try
Also read the gentoo handbook, it's really interesting. Although it's specifically for gentoo ofcourse almost everything you read there applies to other distros as well in a way

Lmaoing @ that clusterfuck of icons. How hard it is to keep the desktop clean?
>>
>>56142199
I don't even keep the desktop icons enabled.

Quick launch is far superior if you need access to things regularly.
It's not like you are disallowed from having folders in quick launch either. (just opens a file window)

You don't even need to use Quicklaunch folder, you can make a folder in program files, or wherever, and just make your own shortcuts and anchor it to the taskbar.
I just made one called "#" for shortcuts.
Only downside is programs won't be able to auto-add themselves to your new folder. (I prefer that, don't want their stinky disorder added to my nice folder)
>>
>>56142139
Well, I have a T430 with the chiclet keyboard and my typing hasn't suffered a bit. The only downside compared to my previous T420 is the layout (del, home keys etc), so I wouldn't mind the keyboard. I guess I'll make my decision based on the price then.

I'm not sure compiling means, but is it writing your own code and executing it? I tried ubuntu but fucked the installation and broke my win10. Been scared to try ever since and I wouldn't mind another smaller laptop to fuck around linux on.

>>
>>56142242
Compiling means downloading source code and making packages out of it. The advantage to this is that every package is specifically crafted to work on your hardware contrary to packages you just download from your package manager, ready to use, they are made to work on a wide range of pieces of hardware. This in the end results in less RAM being used.

I recommended the old keyboard since I wouldn't want anything else on a laptop since I own this T420s. It's a matter of preference though.

That's literally the only current model Thinkpad that doesn't have the nipple mouse. Everything in the T, X, L, and P series has one, and almost everything else has one as well.

You've shown the most extreme new lenevo.

>>56147409
No, you fail to understand. Lenevo is still in business and the Thinkpad line is still selling in droves to businesses. It's not a failure if it doesn't hurt your business. Appealing to autistic man children on the internet is not what's in Lenevo's interest.

What did you get it down to? I tested an enterprise LTSB the other day in VBOX and ended up with a 6.5gb footprint, no hibernation file and compact /compactos:always set after it was fully updated.

It's a decent footprint considering the size of windows & vista after a few service packs and updates.
