As an Apple/Android user,

Apple in itself is not a bad company, they just know that the people will buy their new products every time they release them.
Apple products are horridly overpriced and have little to no customization unless you jailbreak, which apple hates for some reason even though they steal jailbreak tweak features and stick it in their software updates. (I still use apple products because I just get free upgrades from my carrier for iPhones anyways, and i'm probably switching to android soon anyways)

iProducts are good for the simple minded and those who just don't give a shit about customization (and let's face it, even a two year old can use an iPhone)

Apple users are douches and that's understandable because they are single minded more than 50% of the time,
Android Users can also be the same, don't get me wrong. They have their fair share of the same faults.

It all comes down to preference and those who don't understand that are just as bad as those they claim to hate.

I sorta liked apple back in day, the iPod was king. However the second generation shuffle was my last Apple purchase. Around this time my eyes where beginning to open to Apple's underhanded tactics.

That's the 2016 macbook, so you might not have seen reviews for it yet. It also gets better battery life so it really depends what you're after.

Also don't forget that the macbook comes with osx, if you need a unix environment, but you can always install windows.
