Hard to say if it's 'better' than 7. The only reason I updated to 8.1 was because it had better custom themes, and obviously doesn't have forced metro shit like 8.

I plan on staying on 8.1 until something is done about Win10 or something better comes along. It's my new XP.

Im currently shopping for a new laptop and it seems like all Windows 8.1 laptops are being pulled off the shelves. I may have to resort to ebay but I always feel sketch about buying laptops from there.

IMO Windows 8.1 has a better color scheme compared to Windows 10. But I guess you can rice Windows 10 to improve the color scheme.

if you wanted to have a "clean" windows you'd have to go with a not updated 7 or something older and that's security-wise highly questionable if you want to take it online.

if you're referring to telemetry, then that's on windows 7 too which can easily be removed and is not hard coded into the OS unlike Win10.

Main difference being the entirety of Win10 is designed around data mining. Every update you have to worry about it completely fucking your shit.

It doesn't have all the bad garbage 10 does but it retains a lot of the "fuck our users" design principles, and the default settings are horrendous. That said it can be fixed to work unlike ten.
