I find it annoying, that's all. Same with the concern over what distro Torvalds uses. Neither of these guys use their computers in the same ways we do. It's pointless to try and base a decision on either of their use cases.

Python is interpreted, so the OS doesn't directly matter. However, Linux is generally faster and better at multitasking than Windows, so Python should run a bit better on Windows.

Linux has the terminal, makefiles, gcc, vi, emacs (if you're a sick fuck), gdb, valgrind, cppcheck, all of which either come with the system or can be installed easily via your package manager. With Windows, you have none of these, and you have to fuck around with Mygwin just to get a good CLI working.

being written by nerds is like saying "everywhere in the world is raining right now". statistics beats you to the punch.

everyone who wants and can contribute, can do it and does not have to wait for some monopoly company to fix even the most minor itch, 10 years later.

linux is not by default a blackbox system, so it exposes its wires so that you can customize everything in it. this is by design as there are no/few salespeople that need to package the result and sell it, so that it has a shiny box but a lot of shit inside.

and yes, linux guys get pussy too, do not worry. but stick to windows, we do not need dumb button pushers in this area.

Sublime is not proprietary. It is however closed source and non-free.
>>
>>56135397
So proprietary.
>>
>>56135417
when you do not understand the difference between proprietary/free/open source/etc, then no wonder you make wrong choices

Proprietary software is computer software for which the software's publisher or another person retains intellectual property rights—usually copyright of the source code, but sometimes patent rights.

Proprietary software can be distributed at no cost or for a fee

>>
You ever used tmux? I can have irc, vim (text editor) open with notes, a view of all my minecraft servers, etc. and detach/reattach to it from other computers. There are so many neat things like this that just can't even work on Windows.

To answer your question directly. I use GNU/Linux for everything. It's the only OS I use on my computers. It satisfies all my needs. It made me develop new needs. It's so much fun and it feels so good.

If you were a stranger on the street, I wouldn't bother telling you all this, but you're on /g/, the board for technology enthusiasts. If you really cared about technology, you'd just be silly not to use GNU/Linux, sillier to use Windows over it.

I don't think that benchmark includes time to start the DE or equivalent. I don't have a DM installed, I manually run startx from a tty after booting. The time this takes is not counted, so I doubt it's counted when that's automated either.

Those are the biggest one I can think of at the moment.

For web development Linux is very nice.
>>
For a quieter and faster laptop. Windows would somehow cause my laptop to reach max load by just using the web browser itself, causing the fan to turn on to high. I haven't had that problem since switching. It just works.

I'm most likely going to set up a dual boot for my desktop in the future just for muh gaymes.
>>
Post your .bash_history files bitches. I bet half of you have never even used grep and sed, let alone awk and xargs. If all you need from your OS is to display anime wallpapers and shitpost on 4chan, then even Windows is fine. Show me the true power of GNU/Linux, I dare you.
