The EVOS are a good, cheap alternative, but I'm not sure why your budget is so wide. Evos are around ~$35 at most, whereas m50x's are still like ~$100

Same boat here, except I need a complete audio setup for <$100.
I need a pair of headphones + a microphone(including DAC+AMP).

I haven't used any good IEMs or headphones previously other than very very generic chinkshit headsets.

So this means I'm fine with anything as long it sounds good and its comfortable.
I've been recommended AKG 240s, they're a bit expensive.

How does the 240s sound compared to cheaper stuff like the HD668B or HD681 EVO?
Is the EVO better than the 668B?

I would like to avoid headsets this time around, but if it'd be a better choice I'm fine with it.

The issue with most superlux is not the sound quality, rather the build quality and comfort. The non EVOs are quite uncomfortable. I have the 688B's, and they're extremely painful to wear for more than an hour or too. This comes down to the head support being fairly poor, and the pads being extremely uncomfortable. I currently have HD 598's, but I was using the 668's for half a year while saving. You can potentially replace the pads with AKG or HM5 pads, but that won't fix all comfort, nor will it fix the build quality.

The 668B's have phenomenal sound for the price, but they really are a pain to wear. I'm considering modifying the headband and replacing the pads.

From what I remember, the first gen EVO's were pretty trash, but the second gen ones picked it up a fair bit.

Do some research into them.

If you fill it out in depth, and take time to research both cheaper, and higher priced alternatives you can often get some quite good options. Just make sure to ignore all the retarded audiophile spitting arguments about bluetooth or FLAC or stupid shit like that.

Thanks for the info though, It's fairly difficult to buy headphones online without trying them on, specially for someone who had shit audio equipment as starting gear.

So with build quality in mind, I'm still fucking undecided due the information I've gathered. Turns out that since AKG moved manufacturing from Austria to China thanks to Harman buying them out, they became cheaper to manufacture however their build quality dropped.
