My rig

getting a Nitro rx480 next month. Along with it maybe 212 evo cooler so that my cpu wont overheat when my gpu is no longer bottlenecking it and perhaps more ram.
>>
>>56129707
I really think this is my favorite.
>>
>>56130376
>maybe 212 evo cooler so that my cpu wont overheat
do you think the 212 evo is somehow significantly better than that heatsink you already have?

The only way you'll get something drastically better is if you step up to a dual tower 140mm dual fan setup.
>>
>>56130446
Yes I do actually. My current one is 100mm and the sink is a lot smaller
>>
>>56130496
lol a 212 evo is considered entry level, dont expect much unless your current heatsink is mounted improperly.

>>
>>56137200
It's fine, but I would consider an aftermarket. I followed what this guy did and changed the sink to my last card's. Honestly it's a damn good card but the reference coolers are poor because the card is inexpensive. And it's not going to die from not changing it, I'm just saying that if it's too loud for you consider changing the cooler.

>>
>>56137259
Hmm, if I wanted to I could do it, but I'm lazy lol. If anything I'd wait for an actual manufactured 480 aftermarket cooler to come out that would be an easy swap. I don't feel like cutting things and adding more heatsinks like he did.

Guys, I'm planning a build, but I'm ultimately stuck between Asus Deluxe and Asus Maximus, because I need wifi, bluetooth and decent sound.

So I decided to go with deluxe and started planning out a full white build. But it turned out that the only white case available is the fucking H440 and there is no white AIO. Ok, I thought, let's goo all out and get a simple water loop. Turns out H440 is horrible for building a water loop - the only reservoir moun option is at the back and then the GPU won't fit.

Look like I'm stuck with the meme red/black build. Fuck.

yea, it came with a crappy Xeon E5649 hexacore @ 2.5Ghz

Lets see, I paid:
$400 for the gtx970 (Got it when it came out, and that was in my previous system, along w/ the hdds)
$100 for the system chassis (had everything minus the better xeons, memory, hdds, and graphics card)
$80 for the cpu riser to add the 2nd cpu and extra 6 memory modules
$200 for both cpus, 2x Xeon x5680 6 Core @ 3.33Ghz per core
$50 for the 12x 8GB memory modules (like 4 bucks a piece)
and I think about 100per hdd, but they were from my previous build

so I think I have about a little over a grand into it

I do a lot of ebay, and it helps to know people in the e waste business...

>>
I'm building a new PC and I'm afraid of poor airflow on my HDDs. The Define S hides the HDDs on the right side, the Eclipse P400S hides the HDDs under the PSU Shield and the Carbide does that as well but makes it easier to get air down there and I'm also considering the Design R5. Please tell me the Define S(and the rest) doesn't have overheating HDDs
>>
>>56150752
I dont give a fuck mate
>>
>>56157116
contrary to popular opinion, standard operating temperatures are not an HDD-killer.

HDDs are designed to operate at higher temperatures and no matter what you subject them to they will prevail.

HDDs only suffer failures due to heat exposure in enterprise or home lab settings where dozens of disks are stuffed into enclosures without ventilation.

Uneven cooling, like having a fan in front of an HDD will kill it faster than having it under a shroud or behind the motherboard tray.
>>
>>56130806

It's used in a fuckload of builds, is relatively cheap but still a couple bucks higher than it should be just due to popularity. A little bit ugly, it's a bitch to mount.

Overall it's decent price to performance cooler, it just werks. There are better and worse ones in the same price range. Personally I like the cryorig H7.

Getting it mounted isn't too bad if you don't go full retard and tighten one side all the way down before starting the other screws

The problem is the mount doesn't stop the cooler from rotating around on top of the cpu

Other than the blademaster fan it's a decent cooler, you can't oil the bearings on the blademaster to make it last longer so when it starts making grinding noise that's it, time to replace the fan

>>
>>56176834
If you play FPS games = 144hz 1080p
If you play slower paced games like Skyrim/Lol/Dota/Fallout, and you have the card to run 1440p, then = 1440p @ 60hz
>>
>>56176871
Exactly what make me order the 1440p60hz

>>
>>56176871
Should add, make sure your card supports DVI-D? (The one which can go as high as 144hz) as the BenQ I discovered has no Displayports, luckily these 480s came with one, that's if you choose this model BenQ, although it's an older model now, and I'd personally say it's worth waiting for a sale, so you can get a 144hz 1440p

Backblaze has 29,000 of that particular model, with an average age of 1 year of use, only 3% failure rate.

I know backblaze testing isn't fantastic, but that particular drive is fine for bulk storage use. I have a 5TB WD black and 2 SSDs if i need a performance drive.

I wanted to do this to my Phantom. Alas I don't think I ever will.

Also considering dropping my 980's for a single 1060. SLI sucks. 4 GB VRAM sucks. 1080 TI will be $200 more than it should be for over a year from now, it won't have HBM2 anyway and likely won't be driving 4K ultra at a perfect 60 frames.

Forgot pic, fuck.

I really don't know what to do anymore. I figure I'll just stick with my meme 80's until the 1180ti or whenever Nvidia has an HBM2 consumer option.
>>
>>56181027
>Also considering dropping my 980's for a single 1060
Gah, how idiotic. Really.

I have 970's in SLI and I wouldn't settle for anything less than a 1080. Two 980's to a single 1060 is really silly and a straight downgrade.

In optimal scenarios, sure. But there are a few cases where the 1060 beats out a 980 ever so slightly. SLI support is abysmal, so there's times where I actually have negative scaling.

Guess I'll just wait. Ugh. 1070 and 1080 won't have sensical pricing until Vega comes out. 1080 TI will be $800 for the foreseeable future and instantly be btfo by Volta. I want to upgrade but I just can't justify it.
