Hello. I'm trying to get a firewall set up with iptables to only allow the ports I select, but whenever I use this script it doesn't work and I cannot access any sites or servers. Anyone able to help me out a bit?
iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport 80 -j ACCEPT

iptables -A INPUT -j DROP

iptables -I INPUT 5 -m limit --limit 5/min -j LOG --log-prefix "iptables denied: " --log-level 7

Hello /g/ I'm a total noob when it comes to smartphones and I have a question. I want to root my Alcatel OneTouch 5020T and flash the Cyanogen rom. I found multiple tutorial online to root it, the first google result was this:
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXpwzeYFfEc) [Embed]

Then I heard of OneClickRoot.com but the reviews are not in their favor:

I just wanted to know what would be the greatest way to flash Cyanogen to my device.

Model Number : Alcatel One Touch 5020T
Firmware version: 4.1.1

>>
>>56129869
If you are asking about PCB trace length, then no. Because even if the length of traces are different there is a window when the computer samples the data from the RAM. Different RAMs in different slots make the window shorter, but the throughput remains the same for the same frequency. It's just that it's more likely to make errors, in which case the ECC comes into play. But you will get errors from something else much easier than this that it does not matter.

If you are asking about the heat, I guess that may make some difference.

If you are asking about power supply, if it does make a difference you should change your motherboard. It's a bad one.

So worst case it would increase latency, not something they care about in benchmarks but it's still unlikely. Best case nothing changes in any significant way.

Don't really understand what you're asking. Different programming languages express things differently, especially when comparing functional ones to imperative/procedural ones. If you're talking about websites, almost all the time whatever is happening in your browser is powered by some crappy JavaScript code because that's the only thing all browsers support.

The behavior of the 'X' button is defined by the program in question, and usually meant to close the program nicely, i.e. saving to disk, confirming if user wants to suspend a task, etc.. Forcibly closing a process via task manager tells the OS to take over, stop executing the process, close any handles and free any virtual pages it had allocated to it.

Go ahead and paste this into a text file, save it as iptables.sh (or [insert name here].sh) within your home (~) directory. Next, open a terminal, and use the command:

chmod +x ./iptables.sh

This makes the file executable. Since iptables edits a system file, run the script using sudo:

sudo ./iptables.sh

And it should work.

he might be gay, or he might have a brother who's gay, or whatever. in either (or really any) case he has every right to be offended. this is why people feel that workplaces are too sterile, because you're supposed to be more conscious of this shit and assume that everyone is either subject to one of these groups that would be offended or is closely related to someone who would be offended.

you wouldn't see a woman lift a heavy box and make a joke about butch lesbians, would you? (maybe this shouldn't be a rhetorical question, but i mean it as a rhetorical question).

maybe a more obvious example: even if you knew that there were no jews in the office, you wouldn't make a joke about someone "jewing" you on a deal, or make a joke about jewish accountants or something. and if you did make such a joke, you sure as fuck shouldn't be surprised to get fucked in court for it.

your best hope is that your lawyer (you should get a lawyer) will mediate this down to a small settlement out of court. learn from this and don't be a fucking retard in the future. if you don't know every possible thing about a person, don't make a joke that might offend them (this doesn't mean no fun allowed, before anyone bitches about that like a fucking faggot; it just means steer clear of the shit that might strike a chord with anyone. you're not a shock jock; you can make jokes that aren't litigiously offensive)

Hello.

I am looking to purchase a new graphics card. I currently have a 750 Ti. I have my eyes set on any of the new cards by NVIDIA. My monitor is the U3415W, and this card does not seem to handle it very well.

My question is: I do not do heavy gaming, etc. Would a 1070 be just enough even though the GDDR5X memory within the 1080 is better?
>>
>>56136695
1070 should be fine as long as you don't mind turning some settings down.
>>
>>56136692
also, if you're not the boss, you can get out of this really easily by getting your boss to pay for workplace sensitivity training or something. might be possible even if you are the boss. judges *really* like to see that the workplace is reforming itself, rather than them having to get involved in shit.

you just need to accept that
A) you're going to pay a lawyer to get you out of this, and
B) you're going to have to admit you made a mistake. unless you're going to claim you said "okay, flag it!" or something, and he misheard you, you definitely are in the wrong here.

May someone please help me understand how network locking works? If I get it, will I have to get AT&T, the provider it's locked to, or can I pick a different provider once I decide to go with a plan? For the moment, until I get a steady income, I won't be on a plan. I just want to use it with WiFi for now. Will network locking prevent that also?
>>
>>56137707
It wouldn't be your charger that would cause that to begin with.

Do this
>charge up computer all the way
>use it without being plugged in
>note how long it takes for the battery to drain to like 15% or something
then
>charge up computer all the way
>use it while being plugged in
>note how long it takes for the battery to drain to something like 15%

If there's a significant variance, it's likely because you've got a bad battery or yeah your OS is not optimized. If it's the same, then it is some sort of drivers issue.

posted this in /pcb/, gonna post it here, too. just in case.

So, I've got enough parts lying around and enough space in my room that I'm thinking about doing a dedicated audio workstation setup. assuming all other specs are the same, would getting a socket 1150 i7 for the z97 board I have (pic related) or using the FX8350+ASRock 990FX combo I have floating around downstairs be better for audio production? pros of the AMD setup is that, well, I already have the expensive bits for it. cons would be slightly excessive power draw and poor single core performance (as far as I know, most DAWs have multicore support, how well that actually works remains to be seen).

on the other hand, the i7 is undoubtedly the stronger chip in this scenario, and the board I have has a pretty high end soundcard (with swappable OP-AMP) built into it. cons are pretty much just price related and the fact I'd probably need a "better" (higher quality) power supply with this setup.

Depending on how much you're doing at once the 8350 should handle most audio processing fine. If you were going to make a new system for a workstation I would just go straight for an x99 platform.

>>

No, music is more like an actusl language, its very easy to read and know exactly what was meant.

Programming is more like, speaking in a second language with basically no rules and every word has 10 synonyms.
You can read someone else's code and know whats going on, but becauze there are so many ways to attack each problem it takes effort on your part to understand it. Whereas sheet music just takes you knowing sheet music

main reason I'm asking whether to spring for the i7 is because my current i5 (4690k) starts to choke if I start using too many of the heavier VSTs at once (Kontakt, PhilharmoniK, etc.) and kontakt by itself takes 8 years to load some samples (although that might just be the software's fault)

Are there other options then a web browser or Wine with adobe flash player?
>>
>>56140437
It should be fine, an x99 build would be better, but it would cost more of course

At the least you should get an SSD and consider swapping the 980 for a more recent card depending on your local prices.
>>
>>56140437
Sure, in fact you could make a few tweaks to make it cheaper, like i7 is quite pointless and unless you're also going to be gaming on this PC you could switch GPU for Nvidia Quadro lineup, those are designed specifically for CAD work, although their high-end models cost astronomically, but basic cheap ones match the productivity of gaming cards when it comes to professional software.
>>
>>56140477
>doing 3D modelling, other CAD, and simulations
>i7 is quite pointless
>>
What's the fast way to memorize a test dump?
>>
>>56140475
1070 and 1080s cost about an extra $400 here.

Will not having an SSD be significantly detrimental to any of the purposes I'll be using it for?

>>56140477
I thought an i7 was essential for this sort of work? Would the Quadro be capable for gaming as well?

This will primarily be a work pc, but I do plan on playing some games.
>>
>>56140523
Having your OS on an SSD greatly enhances general OS performance, means you'll be wasting less time waiting for things to load and get more work done.
>>
>>56140462
Gnash has a projector-like desktop player
you could also try projector in wine
>>
>>56140545
I'm basically at my maximum budget at the moment though.

Can you see anywhere I could save money to get an ssd in there?
>>
>>56139447
>caused by drivers using improper addresses
Drivers
>>
>>56140408
Well, not necesairly, if the capacitors aren't damaged entirely, the GPU card might last a bit longer, but if the capacitor keeps at it, either you replace the capacitor or find yourself a new board.
>>
>>56140563
Swap the black drive for a blue
Non-windowed version of the case is probably cheaper
550-600W PSU would still be fine
You could cut the aftermarket cooler entirely since you won't be overclocking
>>
>>56140587
>>56140563
Also that RAM is 2400 MT, I think that motherboard will only support 2133
>>
>>56140587
If I'm only going to have the OS on the SSD, would a cheapo one like this be okay?

how do i get a ssd to work with my cpu?

is there any way to check compatibility?
>>
>>56140651
it's like any other SATA drive.
So if you use a harddisk now, you can just add an SSD.
>>
>>56140617
Can't really recommend intel's entry level SSDs, I'd go for an 850 evo
>>
Buddy of mine sent me a test dump of the security plus test. 1769 possible questions with the correct answers.

I take the test on the 30th and have been working through various text books and practice tests for the last 3 weeks.

Should I make an effort to memorize all these questions? Just to give you perspective I'd have to read 148 a day to have read them once by the test date.
>>
>>56140666
How's this?
>>
>>56139233
>>
>>56140785
Looks like the faster RAM you had is actually cheaper, if that's the case then you might as well use the faster RAM even if it won't run at full speed it won't hurt anything.

I wanna upgrade to a 6700K, should I wait for Kabylake instead?
>>
>>56140906
Without a real release date and barring some as-of-yet unannounced extraordinary features I would say no
You'll end up either waiting even longer for prices to stabilize or paying 10% more for 5% better performance.

Excuse my retardiness.

Just reinstalled windows 10 on my computer. Its a sorta high end computer, yet terraria lag balls.

I suspect i must install some sort of drivers for my gtx 970?

Testmy.net keeps giving me consistently lower speeds than speedtest.net and my consoles when testing my internet connection.

Why?
My first instinct is that testmy is the odd man out, but I've always heard that it's more reliable than speedtest, and the results have been super consistent.

Which ones do I trust and how can I fix whatever problem is causing testmy.net to give me the wrong speeds, assuming that it is wrong?
It always used to work before so I don't know why it would be different now.

To add to this; testmy gives me an accurate upload speed that matches the others, so it's only the download speed that it keeps telling me is 1/5th of what it's supposed to be.

Is it a problem on their end, or something going on with my browser or settings?
>>
>>56141173
It depends on the servers you're connecting for the test, speedtest.net use the nearest usually 1-2km away from your location, and that's why you get always good speeds on speedtest, testmy.net may use few servers around the world and none is close to you and that's why the download speed is lower.

Go to speedtest.net and change the server for the test to a server 1000km away from your location and see the results.

Also usually speedtest.net may pick your own ISP servers to do the test, so even if you connection to the rest of the world is shit, it will aways show 100% of your paid bandwidth if connected to your ISP server.
>>
>>56140850
Thanks.

Now, I have another problem. My fucking system shows as not activated again. It was activated before, after I contacted them 2 months ago...
Also says it can't reach the activation servers

I am so sick of this freaking product...
Any time anything good comes out, I get fucked over by stupid bullshit...

It's bullshit like this that legitimately makes me consider switching to fucking BSD or even Linux...

I just wanna stick it out a bit longer... just until I launch my goddam website and start getting some money coming in...

Then, I think I'll try it...

OK, /sqt/, anyone have a suggestion for which UNIX to get?
Which is better FreeBSD or NetBSD? Should I consider Solaris? Is there a way to get straight-up System VII?
And tbph, I may not agree with forced Copyleft like Linux, but if I WERE to do Linux, what's the absolute best for Ricing? Arch? Gentoo?
I'm gonna have to look into /flt/, too.

How easy is it to Rice BSD? I'm willing to write my own programs, but for convenience, I'd like if there's at least gadgets comparable to Rainmeter already out there.

Every since fucking Windows 8.... this company has been going DOWN THE FUCKING TOILET!

I downloaded a Windows 7 Ultimate Iso from digital river and found out there are devices missing.

I installed this one:

en_windows _ultimate_with_sp1_x64_dvd_u_677332.iso

I can't connect to wifi, ethernet, or flashdrive.

These are the devices I'm missing:

>Ethernet Controller
>Network Controller
>PCI Data Acquisition and Signal Processing Controller
>PCI Memory Controller
>SM Bus Controller
>Universal Seriel Bus (USB)Controller
>[2 unknown devices]

I can do shit while using a live linux iso and drag and drop shit into my hard drive.

What can I do to get these devices?
>>
>>56141251
I already suspected that but even when tested from the same server location I get around 10 from testmy and around 50 from speedtest.

The other thing that makes this weird is that it didn't used to be like this. Up until sometime around this year, maybe the past couple months or so, I would get roughly the same results from both.

install the chipset driver from your motherboard.

You should only download Windows ISOs with MD5 checksum that matches the actual ISOs on MS' site dude..

Go to mobo's site, there's usually a download section..
Who made your mobo? Asus? Assrock? MSI?

boot up your live linux, go to your manufacturers website, search for your model and download the drivers.
then copy them to the hard disk.

gdb ./myprogram

duckduckgo for a gdb tutorial to find out what to do when you see the gdb prompt.

It probably won't give you any useful information unless you compiled it with debugging symbols (gcc -g)

I don't come to this board much and wouldn't say im the best with tech

External drive is dying, want to get a new drive to pop inside myself instead of an external. Is Western Digital a good brand?

Also how hard is it to fuck something up something up beyond repair if I'm doing it myself?

SolidWorks will run properly on a 980.
If you're going to be doing any gaming on this system, go with that. Or preferably a Pascal GPU.

What is a film library manager like Foobar is for music?

Closest I've managed to find is Plex, but this does not allow for extensive tagging (from The Movie Database or IMDB) like Foobar allows for music files

Tagging, why? To search the library based on directors, to fix filenames based on TMDB/IMDB, to fetch poster art etc.

I've tried so many programs, but only Plex somewhat does this (and even then it isnt what I'm looking for)
¨
All I just want is program that allows me to 'tag' files (either the file itself or to external text file) from TMDB or IMDB manually..but they're all focused on being shitty fucking players or something with no LIBRARY MANAGEMENT side to them.
>>
>>56141409
That is indeed a stupid question
>>
>>56141655
I've used ember media manager to do that.
Though the programmers seem to change very rapidly, no idea if it's still working.

It writes its own meta files that can be read by xbmc/kodi
>>
>>56141715
I jumped from Kodi to Plex because Plex is somewhat better as a film library browser than Kodi was (I used the latest Kodi)

I'll try this EMM as a library manager/browser, I'm really fucking desperate and actually BAFFLED that nobody made a foobar2000k like program or even addons for MPC that'd work as a library browser and manager.
>>
>>56141715
It was a promising looking program but it only allows to scrape one at a time and if I scrape it from IMDB it takes like a long time, I think 5 minutes or something now per film if I select 'scrape all fields' or about 2-3 minutes if I manually click to scrape every field.-

But thanks, this was close to what I needed, too bad its so damn slow.
>>
>>56141901
and you can call me stupid, but I can't find a way to sort these films (inside the program) by year or director?

If it did that I'd love it.,

ree not a single film lib. manager allows for sorting by director unless its a stream device like kodi or plex
