Debian's installer is terrible. It's true. Jessie does not come with any non-free firmware at all, meaning one cannot connect to wifi. And if you use the firmware included special image, it does not come with the option to install a DE.
Now, doesn't that seem a tad problematic? Newer users can't use a fucking desktop if they want wireless, and can't use wireless if they want a desktop. I use an apartment router that's in my landlord's room and i cant use an ethernet cable, so debian is impossible to use. There are probaably countless people with this issue.
This is why I use Kali. Kali comes with firmware. Kali allows me to use wireless. Kali has a fucking desktop, too. Plus, it's compatible with Jessie's packages along with ubuntu's. I see no downside.
If debian's next release includes the ability to actually use wireless with included firmware, I will gladly try it.
