What do?
>>

if you cannot partition and install grub manually on a uefi system, ubuntu is for you.
>>
>>56110913
Sorry, I’m not a macfag. :^)
>>
Seriously, keep playing with Ubuntu until you get it.

Not just the Web browser mind.

>wahh my autism linux distro doesn't play nice with UEFI
It's been around for more than a decade now. Fuck off.
>>
>>56110864
uefi isn't hard. yeah it is annoying at first when you are used to bios but really if you just follow the fucking directions you will get it installed.
>>
>>56111024

It's been around for more than a decade, and it's still shit. Go figure.

>mfw ppl still using grub
we are in the fucking 21th century, its time to switch to syslinux, cunts
>>
>>56111123
So what are the directions? Nuke /dev/sda1 and 2 and create a single boot, esp partition instead?
>>

Stick to Ubuntu. no really, the gui partitioner works just as well as the command line one.

Did you mount your EFI partition to /boot or /boot/EFI?
(/mnt/boot or /mnt/boot/EFI before chrooting)
You need to do this, ideally before generating your fstab
>>
>>56110864
why would anybody use uefi
>>
>>56111342
Okay nvm looks like you did, didn't check pic
>>
>>56111342
I mounted it to /boot but every GRUB2 guide outside of the handbook says /boot/efi
>>
>>56111402
I know for Arch, the wiki recommends just /boot, while noting that other distributions might require /boot/EFI instead
>>
>using bootloaders with UEFI
you know your motherboard can directly load the linux kernel from EFISTUBs

Have you considered not using Gentoo and installing something you can actually use on a daily basis?

So what is your solution ? going back to BIOS ?

Yeah sure, let's just keep patching some legacy shit from the 80s over and over again every time we want to add new features.
>>
>>56110864
you should try systemd-boot
easy to set up and minimalistic
>>
Hello friend!
My name is Pajeet, and I'd like to help!
But first, you have to visit a specific website.
Here it is: goatse.shit
And the backup: pajeetco.designated.indiarrhea
I do hope your issue with Ubuntu Lonix wil be resolved, and I hope you have nice day!
>>
Since your installation media didn't have EFIVARS compiled in grub didn't add itself to your UEFI boot menu.

tldr install via systemrescuecd instead.
>>
I've always wondered what the desire to use distros like gentoo or arch. Neither Torvalds or Stallman use a linux distro with a minimalist installer/system. Torvalds has been known to use fedora and Stallman has stated he uses Trisquel. Both easily installed and ready to use after install.

So why are you wasting your days away on nonproductive distros?
>>
>>56111654
Its fun to figure out what you need to do to get it to work.

Also 42ms bootloader time after you ditch GRUB.

Hey /g/ is it worth it to switch to gpt? I'm going to reinstall windows 7 and debian and, if i go gpt, i can make an hackintosh. Maybe. Is op just a retard or will efi actually screw something up? Does it happen frequently?
>>
>>56114331
OP here. Using SystemRescue CD worked (turns out the problem came from the minimal install CD). Still, until >2 TB HDDs become mainstream, all EFI would have done will have been adding unnecessary obstacles.

If you have a BIOS, stick to MBR if you want to dual-boot with Windows. If you have a UEFI, use GPT.
>>
Just install Ubuntu or some distro that makes partitions for you, or boot in CMS mode and skip UEFI all together.
>>
>screwing around with the Gentoo installation CD
stop

You asked for it by installing a meme.

Just install Ubuntu, winfag.

>Op doesn't know what he is doing
>Op fucks up his install

>Oh man, UEFI sucks so much

Keep telling yourself that op. Your only alternative is suicide.

>Filtering namefags
I only filter tripfags, it's more fun to impersonate namefags. Then maybe they'll become a tripfag and I'll filter.
>>
This is why I use systemd-boot with Arch. It's damn easy. I use GRUB for BIOS but it's shit for UEFI.
