Someone hacked the NSA https://thehackernews.com/2016/08/nsa-hacking-tools.html

Nothing heroic apparently, they ask for money to release the best exploits. At least we have more proofs they are behind the Equation Group.

Fuck the NSA.

I have a feeling that we'll see more of these types of hacks soon.

Do you think a cyberpunk dystopia can follow from a normal day "democracy"? I mean, sure, we are already practically living in a world-wide surveillance state. But would a true cyberpunk dystopia not be much more dystopian in a technocracy, where the politicians themselves would actually know exactly what they were doing? Would that be the true cyberpunk? For all I see it now it's a bunch of normalfag scum running the system like managers, being clueless about the consequences of their decisions technology wise.

I don't think democracy is the right ground for any dystopia, all dystopias share a single element: Really centralized power.
Even with our corporatist democracies the illusion of choice is essential to maintain the sheeple under control, and a central government would likely be fought. However, modern China can be a total cyberpunk dystopia: Centralized government, tight control on speech, etc. But Chinese influence will probably decrease once all the shenanigans they do on their SEZ and trade market are found out, which could cause some of the higher ups enter in conflict among themselves, disrupting the actual governing scheme.

>>56118732

See above. I believe people have this wonderful technology in hand and what do they use it for? Phone games, gossip news, sports scores. Some people even use it for attacking government agencies or corporations. The cyber punk dystopian future isn't something in a novel, anime, or video game; we're living it right now.

ok so in terms of apparel to accompany your "cyberpunk" style, what would you wear? What sort of colors, patterns, styles, etc. Fabric? Fit? Material? That's the kind of answer I was looking for. I like your vision and incorporating electronic elements into not only your daily life as a whole but into even your clothing is a cool idea but you ought to give more thought to it than "instead of having a real watch I'll put some fucking tubes on my wrist and use that. also it plays mp3s."
>>
>>56118810
>>56119996
oh and to add on to that you have to think about cyberpunk philosophy. If you want your ideas to come out in your fashion/style/look you have to understand them yourself. In a cyberpunk dystopia, you want practicality as well no? So things like fit, fabric, etc. would are more important than you might think.

You are coming to the conclusion a dystopia purposely has to come with positive elements, in this case a cyberpunk dystopia.

Here the lacking elements are many, and not just aesthetics but wide availability of technology, architecture and infrastructure, to cite a few.

A dystopia directed by a few like corporatism can be made to appear to be as advanced as current technology and ethics allow, but only in appearance, leaving serious lack of progress as something for the future when in fact more progress could be done without elements of the dystopia.

TL;DR. Cyberpunk will come when we have more technology, more infrastructure, and more freedom for the common of the people.

Alright but what's the benefit of having that hacky watch/mp3 player? Sure it looks cool and I like diy tech but it's a little impractical imo since it looks like it'd be considerably bulky. All I'm saying is if you want to go that route then you ought to go full blown and develop a style that fits your cyberpunk personality or ideals. When people do this properly, most people understand what idea they're trying to get across.

As long as it's not Techwear or dressing like a slave.
I need to find a nice cyber looking (aka dark grey) rain jacket or w/e those outdoor companies make and wear it with OD BDU pants and a hiking/combat boot.

Democracy with "professional" politicians means rule by people with no knowledge of the world they rule over. That is breeding ground for corruption and alternative lines of power.

So much this I have no reaction pics to show. Although there is a caveat, if your definitions of politics is wide open to interpretation.

The size of the board, tubes, and components is incredibly small. The largest piece is probably going to be the battery, but I don't mind that being slightly bulky.

I guess I would make it because:

1) To see if I can
2) To show that if your average person can make tech easily with mostly surplus/scrap parts
3) Not have to use my phone as an mp3 player for multiple reasons

That and I really like nixie/numitrons because they come from a time where people were slowly traversing into a technological age.

I'm not sure what this entails, but some of my favorite clothing is military surplus. Over on /k/ some kommandos started up an online surplus store if you haven't checked that out yet. Got a sweet Czech parka that's super comfy.

I think the widening gap between the self declared elite and the people they rule over has reached the point of being an abyss and is the direct cause for both Brexit and Trump. Interesting times are ahead.

Combine this with CRISPS/Cas9 and we might get real life Biopunk/Ribofunk into the Cyberpunk.

A Biopunk revolution is somewhat difficult thanks to aggressive license laws. There is no open source, GPL license for the biotech industry, and the industry is held hostage by a few megacorps who hoard licenses without using them, stagnant without progress.

The only way is illegal technological progress, but that is so tightly restricted you not even find it on the internet.

Pic related is what I meant, "future slave"
I'm with you on milsurp though, I wear M65's every year and have a few other kinds of surplus jackets/pants.

But yeah, you should make the watch. Don't let what other people think stop you from working with your hands.
Even if you don't wear it often, that's still a step up from people who just buy everything ready-made and don't try to make things themselves.
I mean, if anyone asks about it, you tell them you made it yourself, and they'll most likely say that's cool.

Well, MIT Review published an article a few years ago that scared the daylight out of many people, detailing how they easily could re-engineer dangerous pathogens.

Also the Chinese have made clear that they do not see the same ethical limits as the West.

Restricting science has always been idiotic, but this is dangerous. There is literally nothing stopping bad people to create malware in computers to do great harm, or even crippling political targets like in Stuxnet.

In biology this is even worse because you get malicious intentions without an effective preparation from the common folk. When extremists find a way we will not be prepared. And without minimal citizen biology this is going to be a disaster, never mind all the cleaning products they buy on the local store, the attacking side will have all the power and the defending side literally no defense.

The idiots at the patent institutions are gonna kill us all.
