It's pretty easy. If you want something to happen when an event like a mouse click or keypress occurs, you would add an event listener to whatever you want to catch the events on. For example if you want something to happen when a div is clicked, you add a mouse click listener to that div. It will have a function attached to it and it will wait until the element is clicked and then execute that function. There is a number of events that you can work with. Just google it. You'll also find examples.
