mine is shutting down/getting unaccessible after some random time. How to diagnose it ? Already tried turning off power management for the wifi dongle.

otherwise, i'd like to make a small web app hosted on the home network a shared todo list. I'm doing a webdev bootcamp and this came up as an idea.

well, i designed and 3D printed a couple parts for the different connectors, plus assembled all the internals while keeping the original power and reset buttons functional, so in a sense i'd say i built it yes

I use it to run apcupsd in order to monitor my UPS. My home server connects via network too and the Pi will also turn my server back on after a power failure. It also turns the UPS itself off when the battery is almost drained.

In order to turn my server on I use a relay hooked up in parallel with the power button on the case.

Yes it does throttle under load at about 85C.

This is mine running seti@home. Currently at 59C with the fan blowing on the tiny aluminum heatsink. (The second smaller heatsink in many pictures you see is apparently the usb controller. It gets pretty hot under load too).

I also use it for backing up schoolwork semi-automatically. Whenever I want to back up my work, I use rsync to send it to the pi, then a chron job makes a second backup on the usb drive once a day. (My backups are not very big).

the part early in the season where two of the 31337 HACKERZ CREW members were watching the movie Hackers talking about how it was a phony Hollywood representation was so despicable. they're doing the exact same shit
>>
>>56101356
I think that scene was tongue in cheek. They know actual hacking doesn't seem that cool or entertaining on TV, so they have to make it artificially exciting for the viewers. They're just trying to stick closer to the reality than most what we've seen on TV.

Honestly, it's a much more enjoyable show if you can get over the feeling that they're thinking all that highly of themselves and not pick apart everything they do hacking-wise. Just go with it. It's much more enjoyable that way.
>>
>>56101356
why do people say this about every single thing that has computers in a TV show?
do you feel smart pointing out that TV shows aren't real or something?
>>

>>
>>56101523
I know it was tongue in cheek, that's the point that makes me mad. they think they're being clever by giving themselves a pass trying to be "self-aware" but in reality they're twice as big assholes as the people who made Hackers. at least the big phony Hollywood representation was unapologetic about being a fucking joke. mr robot tries to pass itself off as "deep social commentary." fuck that shit

I tried a class 4 and UHS 3 Sd card to see the difference, c4 took about 8 hours to upgrade whereas UHS3 took about 10 minutes. Class 10 is apparently the limit of speed or so anyway and cheap.
Ipvanish seems like a good choice and I might buy the official display next time instead of a tiny cheap one.

I built a grow room controller.
No pics as it's dissembled at the moment, but it was connected to a 16 relay switch which in turn operated 10 (only needed 10 plugs, but could run all 16) SSR.
Connected to the pi was 4 temp probes, 2 humidity sensors and a timelapse webcam.

The whole thing ran on pretty basic python as I was getting the arse with the CRON issues.

All together it was able to run the intake and exhaust fans to maintain temperature. They were ran through varis so they would be on at around 40% power and kick into 90% if the heat exceeded a certain threshold.
There was a humidifier and dehumidifier to maintain the correct humidity (crucial when growing), plus it would adjust on a given calender.
Two tube heater to bring up any lights off temp. When these kicked on the fans etc were killed to maintain temps
Lights timers (obviously)
Watering timers (obviously)

It worked perfectly. I do want to build one next time that will fill the water butt and monitor the pH & EC of the feed.

You act like $5 was an amazing amount of money you saved, so much that you couldn't help yourself but post about it in your pants-pissing excitement.

Now you have buyers remorse.

You got scammed, faggot.

He can't, he's lying to make himself feel important for a change.

Because dongles or what?
I was going to have no more than 2 drives on it

A question was asked and I answered it.
When, in your lucid moments between jerking it to cartoons, you wonder why everybody hates being around you... shit like this is why.
>>
>>56117852
Ah, power.
I'm not really planning on running it as a media server or streaming anything from it, just outsidee-my-desktop storage.
>>
>>56117898
Because the rPi only has one USB port. You'd have two HDDs and an NIC sharing it.

>having buyers remorse this bad

Did you just throw your pi against the wall? Did you just stomp on it and chuck it out in a fit of rage- the crushing realization that you've been RIPPED OFF?

I almost feel sorry for you, faggot

Slapped a giant heatsink on it, got it stable at 1.2 gHz, and now I switch between raspbian and retropie as I please. Idles at 30 C and maxes at 54.

hooked it up to a small fan which i use to curl my pubes. Much better than using the curling iron, seeing as it caused grill marks to form on my cock.

So, retarded question, what all does a pi do? Is it just a small motherboard? Does it have some sort of processor? if i hooked it up to a monitor and an hdd, could i use it like a shitty computer?

I'm a total idiot and just learned about these recently.

Waste of money.

how fast are the ethernet connections on these things?
im currently using a 2008 netbook as my home server for plex, nzbget, media server.
i like it because it uses a max of 30w, 1000mbps Ethernet, usb 3.0.
i would like to tryout a raspberry pi to replace this unit if it had the same options as above.
