Why is Microsoft Word's auto-update so incredibly unreliable?
>Write in Word document as a hobby over the week
>Don't save because I'm a moron
>Put computer to sleep, wake up, work on it the next morning
>It automatically updated in the middle of the night, forcing a shutdown of my computer and closing all my programs without autosaving any of them
>Document's gone
>GONE gone
>Nothing in autosave since August 3rd on a completely unrelated document
>Consider a system restore
>System restore is auto-disabled on Windows 10
I get that the primary fault is mine for not saving in earnest, but I mean, holy shit, how do you not notice a hole in your Recovery program like that?
I figured the stuff I was using my computer for was so base-line basic that I wouldn't have any problems with the more advanced functions of Windows 10. I'm beginning to see the complaints.
install an alternative operating system with an alternative office suite
then the program just crashes randomly instead.
but does auto-save like every five minutes by default.

>using Word
>using Windows 10
>using system restore
>too stupid to save files
>too stupid to disable auto updates
You're like one of those tech illiterate people I used to teach at a workshop. Except they were mostly 70+ years old.
>>56061466
And you're a fucking prick.
>>56061388
>Don't save file
>Wangblow 10
>Word
Sound like a great mix desu
>>56061388
>Using Microsoft Office
>as a hobby
What are you even saying
>>56061466
Fuck you, whippersnapper, just for that I'm donating my next social security check to the Hillary campaign.
Sorry we can't all have custom-built PC rigs running Linux with remote auto-saving hard drives on a $500 budget for computers, but I did say I was a moron. You're fighting a battle you already won.
system restore doesnt backup files you dip, it backs up SYSTEM files in case an update fucks up or something you can revert to a previous state of the OS.
considering using the save feature
>>56061388
didn't read after I saw M(TM) I(TM) C(TM) R(TM) O(TM) C(TM) U(TM) C(TM) K(TM) as them (TM)'s are too properitary for me.
>>56061388
I really can't comprehend it, OPie, how hard is it to hit Ctrl-S after every paragraph? As a writefag I am autistically paranoid about losing the shit I write (even if nobody will read it in the first place).
>>56061388
Leaving aside moronic behaviour, holy shit OP. Even fucking vim has swapfiles that record changes made to the buffer, and that shit runs in the terminal and isn't some flagship product for a given OS
The Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display doesn't have this problem.
>>56061388
>>Don't save because I'm a moron
I don't believe this story
>>56061388
Top lel you are an absolute retard, you deserve losing your files for not saving. Stay stupid.
>He unironically uses Windows 10
When will this meme end?
>>56061388
>I didn't save my work but it's MICROSOFTS FAULT
>>56061388
Were you expecting spyware to have basic convenience features?
>>56061466
>in the year 2016
>thinks it's reasonable that people should need to manually click 'save' to save their work.
Even if we backed up anon's text document every time he typed a letter, it would amount to a tiny disk space overhead on a modern PC. Saving should be the default.
>>56063107
why? because he's right?
>>56061388
>not saving your work for almost 2 weeks
ok
