What free software should I use for creating ambient?

audacity is about all you need so long as youre using a line out from a mixer as your audio source.

from there, youll identify flaws in workflow that interfere with your own personal process, and then you can branch out from there.

but if you really dont know much about the topic, just stick with audacity, until you know enough to be on the lookout.

for instance, if you dont have a mixer or any instruments, youll have a harder time, and will need a DAW to generate sounds, but honestly, DAWs are for vaping chads who bring their laptop to a gig. youre better off enlisting local musicians off facebook and paying them with beer. on e you open the pandoras box of DAWs, youre in for years of isolated learning, rather than simply learning from others, on the fly.

for real though, for audio tracking, audacity is decent, and is why its been the go-to for such a long ass time.
