where does one go to find a decent powerful laptop that isnt ridiculously overpriced, im aware that laptops on average are more expensive than desktops but alot of "gaming" computers are way through the roof too expensive

What are you even asking here?
What's your definition of not overpriced?
What do you plan to do with it?
What size do you want?
Give us something to go on here.

Try open box.
Just saw three open high end notebooks for 800 off.
Asked to look at them and there was nothing wrong with them.
get a used thinkpad, t430 with 16gb ram and an ssd, you're golden
if you need more power than that - get a w520, w530, or a dell precision m line workstation laptop

Craigslist, simple as that, what you find is up to how far you're willing to drive. I live in a decent sized city so decent deals come up all the time. But what exactly are you looking for? If all you need is a decently powerful processor (ivybridge or higher i5 or i7) and a screen that isn't a dogshit 1366x768 you probably can find something decent for around $250-300.
My personal opinion would be to grab an Elitebook W series notebook. Someone on my CL listed an Elitebook 8570W for $150. I'd have grabbed it but honestly I just had no need for it.

I would have bought that just to pass it on with a profit. Elitebooks are goat-tier...
