It looks like a cable for doppler-based blood pressure machines. The weird end goes on the patient's skin with some conductive gel. Audio goes through an amplifier and usually to headphones.

A hardwood floor

could be the mic/sensor for a home audio surround setup, you put it where you sit and it focuses sound there..

cord maybe a tad short for that though
