Enable OS compression and manually compress the visual studio install, and run disk cleanup. Also run the StartComponentCleanup task.

It basically just feels like 8.1 with a nicer theme that's faster. I dont see how you couldnt have seen the updates coming though, windows always releases major updates in the first year or two of release.
