C is good if you need to get close to the metal for embedded systems or performance.

C is bad if you want to bang out code and get things done quickly/safely.

If you don't know what you're doing with C, you can easily end up writing much slower code than you would in a higher level language.

If you learn C, take the time to learn how to use gdb.
