I have no clue because the anniversary update fucked over my computer. I guess it's a good thing, because it was the last straw and I finally installed a linux distro and I'm actually happy now.

No idea why it didn't work, everything was fine on the build before anniversary, then explorer would seem to crash and I would get a generic error message after a minute.

You stupid fucknozzle. All they did was disable the ability for lock screen to be disabled through group policy. You can still disable it manually, or change the lock screen to a static image that will never show any ads. Or just don't use a Microslut account.

Holy shit that's the same problem I had. I could use the internet and so on for maybe a minute or so, but I think if I right clicked it would all just stop. Or if I interacted with the start menu/control panel too much it would all fail.

The first time it happened I just went back to an older version and everything was fine. I decided a few days earlier to try 'upgrading' again and it was fine for maybe 30 minutes? Then it failed, of course.

I tried going back to an older version, and then I just got stuck on the loading symbol/flat screen colour. I turned off my computer and it was going to do that for eternity. I decided to say fuck it and make the switch to Freedom. Or install my 8.1 copy, which could have worked. eh

I would use the short time I had to go into the control panel, then update/security, then recovery and restart in advanced mode.

The option was somewhere in there, I don't know. I think it was Go back to an earlier build. It has a warning of "you may have to reinstall some of your apps" or some other scary shit but that's only if you installed anything in the 30 seconds you have the anniversary update. It worked for me the first time. If you want to keep using 10 I recommend you stay on the older version for a while.

The only ads I have seen were random pictures of jellyfish and hot air balloons (no, it did not say the location nor manufacturer), which is not what people typically mean when they say ads, but I guess it counts.

There were other, similar images of other things as well, and on some of them, a button to click to get some random fact about whatever the image is showing that time. It seems to update once per day. And someone else mentioned that they can be disabled, I have not tried that so I do not know if that works. And Microsoft could easily change it to more traditional ads in an "update", and it is somewhat of a waste of system resourced I guess.

I'm having issues with the search ever since the shitty anniversary update. When the search didn't bring up relevant result in the usual directories where this shit searches by default, there was a button that allowed me to get a deeper search which included all directories. This is no longer there, why?

Also I heard Cortana was made mandatory but it's still disabled here (not that I want to enable it).

Oh damn just realized I haven't updated windows 10 in about ~4 months :O

If you can't manage to get into the control panel like me (mine would crash in under a minute after logging in) you can hold shift and then click the power button on the lock screen, whilst still holding shift click restart and it'll bring up the recovery menu. From there it's pretty easy to find the "roll back updates" option.

Shouldn't need to reinstall anything after doing this, it should go back to exactly how it was before installing the update.
