I haven't ordered the GPU blocks yet.

Waiting for my 980 to return from RMA, then selling it and using that money for it. Also waiting to see if the Acetal+Nickel monoblock for the Rampage V Edition 10, from EK, is worth getting or not when it comes out.

Why are they so bastardly expensive ?
That market could sure use some disruption from the makers/sellers of PSU's.

Yeah I love my STX, I know it was designed for headphones but I only run my speakers off of it usually. I have a Nuforce Icon HDP amp/DAC that is miles ahead of the essence that I use for headphones haha. Sounds amazing with the LSR305 speakers though

PSU manufacturers charge the same, for less-quality cables. They're expensive, for sure. But I did sleeving myself, once. And it took forever and only came out decently. So I pony'd up the cash for a nice set of cables.

>>
>>56001071
Hey Break, how did you manage to fit the Rampage V 10 Edition inside the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ATX?
>>
>>56001756
I had to remove the side LED's and backplate to the motherboard. I also had to use a crapton of electrical tape as insulation along the right side of the board, between it and the motherboard tray. As well as removing cable-routing grommets
>>
>>56001844
Interesting. Does the motherboard touch the case at all? Or is there a small gap? Just wondering since you said you used a fuckton of electrical tape lol.
>>
>>56001869
I think without expansion cards or cables tugging on it it doesn't touch, but, with some weight pushing on the board it may touch. I had an issue where I was experiencing some weird graphical errors with both cards/when running SLI, and narrowed it down to a grounding issue. Using more tape resolved the problem. If the issue persists in a year or so, I'll probably get something like the In Win 909.
>>
>>56001925
Holy shit, an error like that would freak me the fuck out. I was thinking of getting the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv and Rampage V Edition 10 but if it's that much of a tight fit I'm probably going to get another case. I'll probably just splurge on a CaseLabs.

Oh yeah are you getting the new Corsair ML magnetic fans? They're apparently really fucking good. Quieter at the same RPM as all the other fans on the market. Expensive as fuck.

I did 2 pci-e sets for a total cost of $30NZD and 2hrs, could do the rest but you barely see them.
Bought pin removal tool from aliexpress and some 3mm sheathing from local computer store.
It's easy as, just remove one at a time, sheath it to just past the crimp, melt it so it won't slide past the pin crimp on both ends, then fit back into plug, it should fit snug inside the plug.

Finally got new fans for push-pull. Had to remove the cable management bar to make room. Added a piece of glossy vinyl to the back wall to make up for the lack of yellow due to it's removal. Also added a vinyl kraken etch to the window and a orange(!) led strip to the bottom which I admit was stupid in hindsight.

Overall though, these Thermaltake Riing fans are pretty neat, I added the "low noise cable" which limits them to 1000rpm and they're totally silent, such an improvement over the NZXT fans, plus I can digg the yellow corners and yellow-ish LED ring.

Anyway, autismo general.

>>
>>56006332
Slim on the length side, a bit thicker on the width side.

My suggestion is pay the extra few and get actual DIY parts if you're going to water cool. I only got these because the Hadron is finnicky about the top rad -- the kit comes with 90 degree extension of the exact dimensions, and the radiator is designed for the case.

If you're interested I'm actually selling a 240mm and 280mm radiator, Swiftech MCP35x pump and EK reservoir top, fans, and fittings. I can give you my email.

>I think the older you get, the less you care about the way the guts look and more about how well the computer blends into the rest of your homes décor.
I tried that once. My previous build I decided to say "fuck it" and buy parts regardless of aesthetics. Though I did still take care of cable management.

I was never fully satisfied with it.

I think once you're an autismo ricer, you can't not be an autismo ricer.

It's just a normal monitoring software like speccy/cpuz etc.

you can see it mounted on the back, hard to really call that external though seeing as it's essentially still within the dimensions of the case besides the 1" protrusion in the back.

I never understood making a big deal about external reservoir's unless they actually get in the way of something or are easily visible.

Anyone own a Fractal R5?

I like the look of the R5 Blackout, but I'd like a bigger window.
Sounds retarded, I know - but my previous experience of building PC's has been slugging components together and not thinking about aesthetics.
I can't see any reason why I couldn't expand the window myself and install a new piece of perspex... anyone got any thoughts?

>>
>>56016196
The plastic window in all of these cases is indented and held on with little metal tabs.

You wouldn't be able to make a clean or uniform cut. It's better to just get a different case with a bigger window or accept the window size.

You're not missing much in that case, it's just covering the HDD bays which is desirable anyway.

Can't believe I went straight past it. Better without the HDD cages too, thanks

is there an alternative?

There are lots of alternatives. Gentle Typhoons, NoiseBlockers, and Vardars are my favorites, but I'm also interested in giving those new maglev fans from Corsair a try.

Depends. They're really good. But there are alternatives. But if you want to move air they air the best, if you need static pressure, there are some competitors.

Pic related. Temps max are from worst case no fan scenario, current temps from min fans in BIOS. Took out the fan controller and the BIOS wasn't happy bringing the noctuas under 500 much.

The Typhoons are entirely back. They were never made by Scythe, Scythe was just the distributor. They're made by the Nidec Servo Corporation. They were the OEM fans for the R9 Fury X, and DarkSide is currently distributing versions with black fan blades and a PWM version.

Depends on your motherboard and amount of fans.
If your motherboard is cheap and/or has too few fan spots, having a front end controller might be what you want.
Having it done via a good motherboard automates the process so you don't have to worry about things getting too hot without thinking about it; but the fan controller means that you can make it whisper quiet when the mobo might not quite be able to do that (even if you try.)

Chances are though your mobo is fine enough to handle it, so its a matter of do you want to spend the extra cash on a fan controller.

Used to be somewhat active on gut threads years ago.

I had one 670 then with my kuhler upside down and I used to braid/twist the PCIe power cables which used to cause butthurt.

Anyone recognize or remember my guts?
>>
1080 SLI is pretty sexy.
>>
>>56022468
I'm not white knighting for anyone. I'm just saying buy products from a company that doesn't blatantly rip off multiple competitors and then try to pass off the result as an original product. That kind of behavior is bad for the hobby and the industry as a whole.
>>
>>56022491

>>
>>56022642
To be honest no.

I only game on 1080P single monitor so that could be why. My friend has a 970 and I can keep up with him in the majority of games we play. Some I get a few more frames but typically pretty neck and neck.
>>
>>56022661
I remember him lmfao. He did have a lot of disposable income or he spent everything he had in that thing.

Thanks Anon, life has been stressful and its relaxing to get back into this.
>>
>>56022700
It's most likely the resolution. I play at 5760x1080 whenever possible, and new games have been too much for that for some time now. I'd really like to give Doom a try, but it doesn't support SLI and the single 670 is the minimum requirement. At that point, I may as well just buy the Xbox version.
>>
>>56022614
What about EKWB Vardars and Swiftech Helix blatantly copying Gentle Typhoon?

People choose what they want to see. While some of thermaltake's product are similar to others, they are not identical. Every company copies some other company on some product and only the popular meme companies get away with it scott free.

With the PC enthusiast community rapidly growing these last few years 100% unique designs aren't feasible. There are so many companies shitting out so many products it's not exactly hard to find one or more companies who release a product "copying" another.

So a company releases a product similar to another, does that validate shitting on every product they produce with their brand name on it? Is that healthy for the industry?

It's the degree of similarity. Vardars and Helixes may perform similarly, but the blade design is pretty much standard for a low noise, high pressure fan. I'd say the strongest case for rip-offs comes with their water cooling products, with their angled fittings being near identical to the very distinct looking EK fittings. They also copied the (hillariously bad) port placement that EK was using at the time for their GPU blocks. They have so little creativity that they copied one of the worst mistakes their high-end competition ever made.
>>
>>56022889
Whatever man, I don't want to fight over it, I don't care enough about any company to defend them.

I just don't think it's right to shit on a builder's choice because of the alleged action's of one of their brand choices.

It's one thing to shit directly on the company through a review or through their company page, but I don't agree with doing it through their consumers.

It's just like the builders who get shit on over AMD, it makes me sad. They come all proud of their work and then people instantly criticize their choices, I think they hurts the hobby more than any company wrongdoing could.
>>
>>56023189
Who cares what some random faggot says to fit in. I'd gladly buy thermaltake if they cloned good products and sell them for 40% the price. But right now they're cloning some ugly as fuck cases and selling them for 90% of the price.

Here's the thing friendo, companies copying companies forces rapid innovation. A lot of people don't realize this. If a company makes X and a company copies that and makes Y, it forces product X's company to innovate to stay competitive where they would normally happily milk the same product for years.

Here's the big picture though. Thermaltake isn't chinkshit, they're a reputable brand. Every company is lawyer-happy. If they truly copied a design as much is being claimed, they would get sued and they would lose. Did that happen? No. What happened? The accusing company actually was forced to write an apology letter.

No matter where you reside, if you have a legitimate multi-national company, lawyers get a huge massive throbbing boner for IP and copyright cases. If it were for true a legit case, they would not have settled to easily, especially for a company as big as TT.

At the end of the day, fuck this, this is a guts thread. Everyone else piss off.

Positive air pressure.
2 intakes for GPU, 1 intake for CPU.

There is 2 intakes on the front, which directly flow to GPU. If I turned the top fan to an exhaust, it would cause more air flow from the 2 front intakes to flow to my CPU reducing air flow to GPU, but the hottest component in my case is the GPU. So not only does the top intake prevent stealing air from the GPU, it in facts provides some additional air flow to the GPU as the CPU cooler won't redirect all the flow.

My line of thinking, do you have suggestions to improve that?
>>
>>56031046

i would put it in the back slot instead of the front, and blowing out instead of in. if you want positive pressure, you can let the top and back one run abit slower than the front 2. it's probably a blower card by the looks of it and it's getting fresh air from the front of the case anyway.

Are you high?

Most houses appreciate in value over 10+ years, the depreciation in the home markets that happened between 2006 and 2008 was a market correction because the rate was too high, but the homes that dropped are for the most part doing better now than they were in 2006 (Leaving out neighborhoods that entirely collapsed)

Not always.

Regardless, even if they did, most people who "own" houses actually own a mortgage that comes with interest, property taxes, insurance and maintenance expenses attached. Result is you need the house to basically triple in "value" over the standard 25 year term to make any sort of real money out of it.

Hilariously about 5% of mortgage holders appreciate this fact. The rest are just pouring money away.

Making my first build [on a budget]

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-B150M-DS3H Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
Memory: GeIL EVO POTENZA 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
Storage: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SC GAMING, ACX 2.0 (Single Fan), 6GB GDDR5
Case: Cooler Master N200 MicroATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply

Will it suck? Will I be able to run any modern games? Still new to this and had someone help me with the build.

Glad to hear it. It ran for less than $800 USD. I thought about buying a pre-built computer, but I didn't want to get jew'd by a company that says "You can upgrade any parts, but if you do, the warranty is void".

right.. I had some vms that were so bloated I couldnt really load them anymore.
Most of them if I had firefox open (200tabs) and booted a vm Id have to reset the whole computer and not make the same mistake of having both open at the same time.
Now I can have my host os, fire fox, and over 3 vms at the same time. Like I can get soooo much shit done now

Oh, that makes more sense.
My old build was an intel dual core 2.8 ghz with integrated nvidia on the motherboard. on windows it would handle a couple of win7 vms with no problem and hundreds of tabs of firefox, I have a screenshot of "are you sure you want to close 460 tabs" somewhere.. never had a problem with hd anything, even several videos at once. In the end youtube was fucking my shit up and making my cooler fan run fast as hell but other hd porn was fine, but that may have been issues with the open source drivers I was using for linux.

Just ignore. It's not worth it.

I've become convinced that it's just 1-2 people in this thread that lead such sorry lives that they need to argue about anything.

The aesthetic and window guy, the asrock and thermaltake guy, the posts about money. I'm thoroughly convinced it's all one or two people. It wouldn't surprise me.

I'm pretty sure anytime someone takes his bait he ferociously masturbates to it and reassures himself about how he's of high intelligence.
