My graphics card has one 6pin socket. Can I split a single yellow 12v line from my psu to power the 1 and 3 pin on the graphics card? Or do I have use two separate 12v lines? Im using a 2nd PSU to power the graphics card.

just get one of these 6pin adapters for a dollar
I only have a single yellow 12v line available. Those molex adapters use two yellow 12v wires per 6 pin socket. So I'm trying to find out if I can split the single yellow line into two.

what graphics card are you using?

You have a single 12v rail, that means all 12v outputs all originate from the same point. Yeah can split them up even more if you really want, whether it will catch fire or not depends on how much current you'll be drawing and what the wires can handle.
Get a new psu you cheap fuck

Thanks. That's what I was thinking also, but wanted to make sure.
The lowest tolerance I've read was 8amps of current can run through the wire. Since 6pin plugs don't draw more than 75 watts from the 12v wires, I should be pulling at most 6.25 amps from a single wire, which is still safe, right?
I would never consider this with an 8pin plug because I know those are rate to draw 150watts max. That would surely melt the wires. I would have to use at least two separate 12v wires direct from the PSU.

Im trying to learn something you insensitive fuck.
Matter of fact, I volunteer at a childrens center and im trying to upgrade one of their donated business PCs which have a proprietary PSU. I cant switch it out and it's only 240watts. Someone else donated a gpu so I salvaged a PSU from an older computer. Unfortunately that PSU doesnt have compatible power connectors so im trying to power the gpu with it as a second psu.
The kids will be so happy.

Where do you find these for a dollar??!?!
I would just go with a card that that doesn't require supplemental power. PSUs are designed a certain way and do not account for adapters. If you use one of those you risk damage. I don't know if it would cause a fire but it could damage the 12V rail if you draw too much current off of it.

That adapter uses two 12v wires to power the 6 pin. The OP was asking if it can be done with one 12v wire, instead of two.
