Get a BM-700/800/8000, check Ali and Gearbest for both and buy whichever is cheapest (they're all roughly identical internally)

After that either grab a cheap used audio interface off a failed musician locally, Behringer is a good cheap brand, or get a chink phantom power supply (eBay is best here, search "48v phantom power" it's the black one with no branding).

The bm-700/800/8000 won't work plugged into the mic port in your PC, it needs additional power. Some here use usb sound cards to give it 5v but the sound isn't great for musicians, it's just passable for vidya which is most of /g/. If you want great audio you need to budget in a way to provide 48v to the mic as it boosts the sensitivity to the max and gives the recordings enhanced detail.

DON'T assume the mic is all you'll need.

Also you'll need a mic stand and XLR cables if hooking to an audio interface or phantom power. Factor that in.

Good write-up, he's right. People buy a BM-800 thinking the mic is all they need and end up screwed when it doesn't work out of the box. You need to realise that the mic may be cheap but the other things around it add to the cost. If you're a musician and value good sound definitely invest in yourself and get the most sound quality you can out of the mic by using its full potential. Most people here are okay with "good enough that people can hear me in voip" which even a cheap clip-on mic can do. Don't be afraid to buy used, musicians quit all the time and they don't fuck up their equipment.

In fairness the original footage looks a fair bit better (it's 720p) but I'm not very good at converting 100MB video files into 2MB weebms so I just halve the resolution and use a fuck-my-shit-up bitrate. The light sensitivity or whatever on the camera is pretty shoddy though.
