I accidentally killed my new mobo when I was installing it and my new processor like 1 month ago so it wouldn't beep or do anything when turned on, then I got them to fix it on the warranty. Now the same thing happened after i got it back and used it for a week. I did a sysprep before it all began so I wouldn't have to install windows again, and I delayed installing certain new drivers when it seemed like everything was working fine. Could this have caused it? There were no temp problems.
>>
>>55992816
Unless you're installing your mobo while wearing faux fur and snuggling up to your shag carpet, I really doubt you just killed 2 mobos in a row. Maybe they didn't fix the thing properly if it's the same one, but your drivers shouldn't have shit to do with it. Try this:

I didnt kill 2 mobos, they installed the second one for me, which I never touched. I turned it in to the shop again without an assload of experimentation because I was going away, but its good to hear that it couldn't be my fault. Maybe my psu is getting old and damaging my components?

1. If I have a television which supports 24p judder-free playback (Vizio D60-D3 in this case) and I play movies on it via a laptop connected with HDMI, will I get the benefit of that feature?

2. The aforementioned television seems to have a poor quality upscaler - will this even matter if I'm upscaling sub-1080p content on the laptop itself with mpv's own upscaling algorithms?

3. What's a good cheap stereo receiver to power a pair of Micca MB42X?

I'm having a weird problem; built a new rig that's using both integrated graphics (Intel 530) and a 1070

3 monitors, 1 hooked into the 1070 and the other 2 side monitors plugged into the integrated one

(Can't switch them around either, due to how they're connected; only so many of each port)

Almost everything works, but for some reason my left (VGA-only) monitor won't let me set the right resolution without giving an 'input out of range' error.

- I can set the right resolution if I do it through Intel's graphics dashboard thing (since it also lets me pick the scaling type), but that screws up where the monitors are positioned for Windows since it doesn't see the middle one on the 1070

- Setting the resolution through Window's Screen Resolution thing won't let me put it above 1024x768 without giving the 'input not supported' message

Any tips? Either to get Screen Resolution to actually let me set the right res, or to get intel's graphics thing to not screw up the monitor placement?

Thanks!

How does one get doxxed and how do you go about preventing it?
>>
>>55993173
That's quite a solution you've got there. You won't be getting full performance until you're running all your monitors directly from the 1070. Get whatever adapters you need to do that.

Reposting from the other thread:

I'm trying to set up Audit Policies on my domain controller (Windows Server 2012 R2) for File Access Audits.

So far I've been using the Default Domain Policy which is already in place and working and just activated Audit File Access on it (success and failure for debugging purposes).
I created a simple .txt file (superSecretStuff.txt) and enabled EVERY Audit option on it. The file is located on a network share which the Domain Controller hosts.

My problem is that I NEVER get any File Access Events (Event ID 4663).
What did I do wrong? Every guide I see on the internet does it almost exactly like I did.

The iGPU is good enough for what I use the side monitors for, and I plan on getting a DisplayPort->DVI adapter if I can't get this to work, but I'd rather just find a way to fix the problem since it's definitely a software issue

What you're doing isn't meant to be done. I'd say what you're encountering is more of a hardware limitation, that might be possible to overcome if the manufacturers were really intent on coding their way around it, but they're not. I doubt you're gonna get anywhere with this

>>
>>55993290
Really? I can get almost everything working easily, the issue is having to choose between the correct res and correct multi-monitor position, so it seems like it should be possible; even if I just have to manually type in the monitor coordinates to wherever they are in the registry or wherever they're stored.

Oh well, thanks for letting me know!

Question: Is there a tangible risk of damaging the other components of a PC if the CPU is bad/abused?

Context: I'm working on a semi retro PC build, and the motherboard I'm using is LGA775. Since there are no new LGA775 CPUs left, I will need to buy used/referb. I'm concern that if the CPU has been abused (e.g., botched OC, overvolted, etc.) that it could damage my motherboard/GPU/other stuff. If my fear is unfounded, I'll just buy a referb Core 2 Duo for <$50. If not, my plan B was to buy a LGA775 iMac and salvage the CPU, as virtually no Mac users would have been tampering with the processor, espessially considering its a AIO.

You take out the old GPU, put in the new one, connect the video adapter, power on your computer, uninstall the msi radeon hd 7730 driver by either going into the GPU software and tell it to uninstall, or simply go into your hardware / device manager, look for graphics card, extend that category, look for your graphics card, right click -> uninstall.

After that you simply download the latest driver for your new graphics card.

I'm cutting a hole and installing a fan where the blue square is, i am going to remove the fan at the front as it has very restricted airflow.

I am also then going to seal up all the gaps on the panels, front of the case and rear of the case other than the vent next to the cpu. What sort of fan should I use to achieve the best cooling? Static pressure since it may face a little resistance or just go for standard airflow case fans?

Yeah its ugly as fuck and dirty and full of spaghetti, when the fan hole is getting cut everything is getting cleaned and the interior of the chassis painted black, along with a new modular sfx psu so i can hide that completely. So disregard its visual state atm, currently it is a very, very huge pain to disassemble with that large psu there.

It sure is, that's whyI'm buying a smaller sfx psu, this is a full atx case but designed for a stock cooler, the now exhaust port is where a psu should be mounted over the motherboard.

I already own 3 other standard size cases but I like this one because it is a beige box and I wanted to build a sleeper pc, the cable management has already been mentioned in my original post friendo.

I've got no need for 5.25" bays so theres no reason not to stuff a psu in there if it fits. The entire point of this case is that it is a tiny beige box, well tiny for atx anyway.

>>
>>55996830
Basically, the larger files will always be faster. It sometimes depends how you transfer it though.

Some protocols don't care, like bittorrent.

Most protocols transfer files one by one with some overhead before for each file, so small files kill throughput. For example, rsync and scp.

A few protocols will let you download files in parallel, and can therefore be faster for a dozen smaller files over one giant file. https is an example.

So I just recently got Windows 10, but for some reason, I'm having trouble posting anything on any board. If I try to post anything, whenever I hit the post button, "sending request to sys.4chan.org..." pops up for a split second, and then nothing happens. Couldn't tell you with certainty, I'm not an electrician, just looked into this stuff briefly.

I'd guess it's equally as memey, though getting zapped over ethernet takes a lot more steps, since it'd have to be a surge into the router powersupply, then jump into the ethernet, run down that then zap your pc, im not sure that's even possible.

But yeah, this is only conjecture, I never looked into ethernet stuff.

My computer has these weird hiccups. Sometimes for the internet sometimes for actual navigating the computer. I guess this isn't a tech support general but I figured I'd ask. I don't have the faintest idea of what's going on. Like I can watch a stream on twitch fine but I watch a pornhub video even if it's buffered it will pause. Like the internet just stops. It seems like packet loss but I'm wired. I also get it where I'll click something like a folder and it'll hang for a second or two before responding. It started really recently and it's driving me nuts. I have no idea what it is.
>>
>>55998008
Check the usual troubleshooting stuff, internet to your house dropping out, pc being clogged with dust, hdd failing.

The system locking sounds like hdd failing, the other stuff sounds like internet dropping. Idk how twitch or pornhub work but its possible caching videos from pornhub is fucking up from a failing hdd, while twitch doesnt let you go back in the stream so perhaps it isnt writing to cache?

Thats pure guess work on how they operate their sites, but that would explain the issues you said.

Should the 1060 be enough for 5-7 years for a guy who doesn't mind playing at the lowest settings in a game so long as it's 60fps? Which card gives the best performance for the price? What am I supposed to know about all the different GPU manufacturers and....I just don't know.

I really hope you're not being serious. Memory has been the major limiting factor of CPUs since their inception.

>>55998180
I should also say, I would prefer that 60fps be possible at 1080p with all settings all low 5-7 years from now, and while I know future proofing is impossible we have experience on how good top of the line cards do 5-7 years from now and maybe someone more knowledgeable then me would know how well it turns out.

its too hard to predict what is going to come down the pipeline, honestly mate if you wanna go for long term buy the absolute best card you can afford with the maximum amount of memory you can afford.

But I think you should be fine with a 1060, I used a 570 up until about 5months ago and I mostly used med-high settings, and there has been absolutely massive performance requirement gains since that card came out, and a new console generation.

I'm sharing mountain loads of doujins through my network share folder.
No one should be able to access this from the outside, right? Only those who are connected to my home network?
>>
>>56000720
I probably should have worded that better. How do i fix the error? Where do I get that file?
>>
>>56000973
Why do you need to share your doujins around your house?

Can I live with you?

Hi /g/. Bit of a complex question about Android. I'm not a programmer so please help me if you can and keep the technical jargon to a minimum. I use my phone to download shit from the Internet. But the Internet connection is not always online. I have set the WiFi manager to inform me when there is an open connection with a beep and vibration. This is good, however sometimes an open network is available but I no beep or vibration notification occurs. It only does when I turn on the screen and spot the open connection in the list. It seems that after a set time of inactivity once the phone screen has been off, the phone stops checking for open connections as routinely. So, if I turn on the WiFi, it checks every second or so. But after a set time, I don't know how long, maybe 30 minutes, the search time gets less frequent and thus less accurate. The connection might be open for 10 minutes or more before the phone notifies me about this.

So, my question to you is - is it possible to edit the config information to extend or remove the delay time to actively search for WiFi as routinely as when it is turned on?

>>56001005
How is that even a question, I have devices all over my house that need to be able to access my lewd stuff. And yes, you can stay, just bring more material.

This particular piece of shit either gets stuck at "starting", gives me "Temporary error, retrying" without actually retrying, or sometimes even starts but stutters horribly at <120kb/s and ends up getting stuck anyway.
Is it just me? If so, what do? Tried clearing cache and rebooting. On Firefox without the extension, Waterfox with one, and Chrome. Nope, all the same.

Does the readme from your github repo ask you to copy files somewhere? You should ask /flt/ for this.

If a program hasn't explicitly been updated to work on Windows 10, will it?

The program in question is the Heaven benchmark. The site does not list Windows 10. If it won't work, what are some good benchmarking alternatives?

I can't find the AMD Control Centre on my computer, so where can I download it?

I'm weary of installing something that also tries to install drivers as I recently had major troubles regarding drivers and I don't want to mess it up. All I want is the control centre software.

>If a program hasn't explicitly been updated to work on Windows 10, will it?
Most likely. Especially if it supports W8 which is the case. It also has a free version, so why don't you just test it yourself?
>>
Is using break/continue statements really considered a bad programming practice? Every class I've taken in uni has told me to use them as little as possible but I'm curious what the pros think.

If I´m going to do some light video editing (1080p/60hz) gonna record some gameplay (Titanfall, Halo and BF1)
This build is my first option
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/39kLPs

If I save money for another 2 months, this would be the build
http://pcpartpicker.com/list/6NJRkT

Is really worth the increment in price tag? I will be using Blender and Premiere for video editing
For recording gameplay gonna use OBS and for the console a El gato capture card

Just wanted to be sure before I spent an hour downloading it.

Yes, processors last forever these days, investing a little more is a great idea. Also you're the first newb in weeks I've seen who thought raid was a good idea. The real limitation you're going to see on a hard drive is spin up times, and raid doesn't help that.
>>
So I'm in the process of building my new pc when it occurs to me. My old build, which I bought off Craigslist, haso a creative Soundblaster HD titanium in it. Would I get better results using my motherboards on board sound or the sound card?

Motherboard is an MSI Z170 Gaming 5.

if I buy an i7 6700k from jet which give deep discounts because its trying to get bought out, is it udner warranty?
>>
>>56001552
Not gonna use raid, I just need the storage, but thanks man
>>
>>56001210
They don't provide CC without the drivers. Best you can do is download the full package and try to uncheck the "install drivers" option. I doubt you'll have a problem either way though
>>
There are two kinds of DVI connections: DVI-A (analog) and DVI-D (digital). Then there's DVI-I, which is capable of both. DVI/VGA adapters only work with DVI-A or DVI-I and the connection is passive so you shouldn't get signal loss unless the cables or adapter are cheap chinese garbage. If your GPU is DVI-D you won't get shit without an active, powered converter.

Intel and AMD dropped DVI-I for DVI-D a while ago. Nvidia dropped to DVI-D in the most recent generation of cards. Make sure your card supports it.
>>
>>56001583
Its a manufacturer warranty, doesn't matter
Even if jet gets bought out the buying company still has to honor the commitments of the company they bought
>>
>>56001591
Then go down to one drive and you'll save power, space, and probably money. Plus less likely to fail with half the drives.

I just bought a 6700K.

My stock voltage was 1.328v. I thought I had a horrible chip and started playing around.

I'm currently doing 4.4Ghz at 1.184V Vcore.

What the fuck? Is this a good clock? Running Aida64 and it's stable.

Also what is the difference between VID and Vcore, VID is 1.316V and Vcore is 1.184V. Which is the amount the CPU is getting

Jet has always given deep discounts. Then they use the shittiest shipping, website design and customer service they can manage. That's been their business model from the beginning. Except at first they also tried signing people up for annual subscriptions nobody bought.

I don't know how well a benchmarking program will run on a system it wasn't designed for. You might get better results with something more up to date

No, unless you're overclocking the cpu you won't kill your mobo. Also the hardware is so cheap who gives a fuck? You can buy complete socket t based computers for $20 on craigslist.

I inherited a Dell Optiplex 790 SFF for free from work. It has a AMD Radeon HD 5450 graphics card, i5 - 2400, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD.

My question is. Could I install that new AMD Rx 460 without upgrading the power supply, or should I just get a GTX 750 ti?

I'd like to use it as a lower end gaming computer that I would connect to my television. Basically a console replacement.

>>56002177
So, even if someone else overclocked and overvolted the fuck out of a CPU (in their), it couldn't damage my motherboard?

>>
>>56002222

>>
>>56002345
Overvolts and overclocks are stored on the motherboard. They don't carry over in the CPU. And an overclock won't cause a short in the cpu large enough to burn a motherboard, it'll destroy the cpu well before that.

I dont think default domain policy applies to domain controllers. Seperate policy for them. Auditing would happen on the server hosting the file.

What would be a good way to record myself drawing on a Surface pro 3? I kinda want to record the maximum possible of my exercises and try to make some sort of Vlog/progression with comments from a beginner standpoint, so I'd need something that records in a decent but very light format I guess.

I'm looking at getting my CEH, i'm not employed by a major IT business that will pay for this course. So i have to self-study or pay for an online course.

Self studying is my main opportunity here, but i can only find V8 CEH videos on Youtube. How they compare to the actual exam is unknown to me.

How did you guys who have the CEH actually get it?

>>55993116
1. yes, if you set the laptop to output a 24Hz signal
2. no, you can avoid the televisions' upscaler completely by simply setting the laptop to output a signal that is the TV's native resolution and upscaling on the laptop instead
