Trying to install (ed)ubuntu on an old dell latitude d610, has been hanging on this for over an hour now. Any suggestions? It installed fine on a p3 Panasonic toughbook, so this should work, right?

sure
So what sort of time frame should I expect? Like I said, its been saying this for over an hour now, is that normal?
>>55978716
Install from Ubuntu minimal and download the extra packages you want. The remix/spin gui installers for Ubuntu are shit, but the minimal gui installer is great and won't hang even on the biggest shitbox

No can do, as there is very shitty and sometimes no internet connection at all.
The flashdrive has worked fine on other, and older computers so far.

That's probably too long. If it doesn't work soon, start over. If it keeps happening, run fsck from a live distro and see if your drive is busted. It might be your installation media if you are going from CD and not network.

See that arrow? That opens the terminal log. See if it is actually doing something.

Yeah that too has been showing the same message for over an hour now, it seems to just be hanging. Ill leave it for 10 more minutes and then run fsck like >>55978851 suggested. Thanks /g/ents.

Indeed also
Edububtu is on an old version of ubuntu 14.04.something i believe. You could install ubuntu server 14.04.something because the server installer is a lot better. Then do
sudo apt install edubuntu-desktop
Assuming you are a linux novice you might need to install a DM
sudo apt install lightdm unity-greeter
Then restart

Like I said, internet is shit when there is a connection at all, so downloading all the educational apps is not really realistic. Just takes way too long.

Fsck seems to have fixed the problem btw, its continuing now, thanks mate.
