We had to use altavista back in computer class
>>55974933
You mean Netscape and the email program they made . . . uh, thunderbird?
>>55974984
Nope, the actual "suite".It included a browser (Navigator), email & news (Communicator), web design (Composer), IRC (ChatZilla), address book, and some other shit like a JS debugger.
>>55975055
Communicator? Was that the email client they had? It's been so long and I had to use Outlook because of the office back then.

>>55975055
That morphed into Seamonkey. It is still in development. Though releases have slowed down recently.
>>55975064
Yeah. I remember using it a bit before and after Firefox came out. It was really heavy, but it was because it reserved RAM for everything. It also could run in the tray.
Good times. That was the first program I ever used for IRC.
>>55974933
I remember when I didn't have an internet connection yet but tons of CD ROMs of computer magazines that had those Netscape suites on it.
I slapped together some laughable shit content and told to myself I'm BROWSING THE INTERNETS.
Those where simpler times...
>>55975077
I knew Seamonkey existed, but didn't think it was still being developed. it's just not the same without that horrible theme and button animations...

Nero! Oh, man! I still have images I ripped of Starcraft and Broodwar, then later converted from .nrg to .iso. Still have the CD key, too. They were a friend's, and I wanted a copy.
I think I had Nero Burning ROM 8(?), which had come with a $20 LiteON CD-RW, DVD-ROM drive. My first. I was using a Pentium 2 then.
Remember how the chip for PII's was so large, you could cool it with nothing but a giant heatsink? My hands got so cut up from those...

Okay:
The standardization of widescreen.
I am finally doing filmmaking in a first world country, which has always been my dream. That means I am 8 years olver than 90% of the people in my course.
We have a 90sec assignment to do for the summer on something personal, whatever that might be. I'm gonna do it on my teenage years from a screencapture point of view.
My first machine in 2003 was a Pentium4, Riva TNT2 32mb and 40gb HDD with 512mb RAM running Win98 SE.
Gonna mount a Virtual Machine and do it like that. Shame MSN is no longer working (all servers down) so i will have to use AfterEffects a lot more.
Thanks for reading my blog.
>>55975297
No. What is wrong is how Microsoft switched from plastic to glossy aesthetic during the middle of XP's life cycle. I puke a little every time I see the update from WMP 9 show up in my virtual machines.
Gloss was a mistake.

One of the reasons I actually like MATE on my Linux systems. You don't need glossy bars or transparency to look good. Just don't do the whole dotted line thing Microsoft favored for their win9x themes, and don't go for the shittiest, most neutral grey you can. I've always felt Microsoft fucked up theming.
tldr; there's nothing wrong with a simple theme, Microsoft just sucks at this. Pic related - a simple theme.

Vanilla: You're born to a brilliant sunrise. The world is all new. Every turn, every corner is a new experience. Your future is bright and sunny. Things are just getting started. You're a noob but so is everyone else. Everything is surprise, laughs and good times. Happiness is all you feel and all you know.
Burning Crusade: The sun is at it's highest in the sky. You're no longer green and have settled comfortably into the world. Everything is at its zenith. The world is bustling and you're just one of the privileged few lucky enough to have lived in such a great time.
Wrath: You look onto the horizon. The sun is setting. You feel creaks in your bones that weren't there yesterday. You're wizened and weathered, a sage of times past. You make your final journey into the unknown, the land beyond sight. You leave behind everything, your friends, your memories, the world itself. You say goodbye and disappear as the last glimpse of the sun vanishes behind the sea.
Cataclysm: You return. You're old. Your adventures are over. The world you left is gone, changed completely. New faces are all that can be seen, none that you recognize. You realize your time has long past, the world belongs to others now. This is not your place...not anymore, the sun already set on you. It will never rise for you again.
Pandaria: All my friends are dead. People look at me with mixture of pity and disgust. I don't belong here anymore. I smile as I fade to black and as I leave I hear the voices of my old friends calling out to me.

>tfw using display phones at Best Buy to buy shit tons of credits through text messaging
I never understood the point of them registering the display phones with their carriers. I've gotten at least a few hundred dollars worth of Habbo credits total by using them.

TFW fucking Minecraft and gmod are the closest modern gaming has come to this god tier game
Plugged one of my old IDE hard drives into a donor PC the other day and ran recuva on it. Found a bunch of old screenshots. Here is a pretty cool one I found, dated 27/01/2007. I was running a VapoChill PE on my CPU. It was an AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 Socket 939.

I remember when I had enough of those free AOL CD's that I made wallpaper out of them.
They were free at stores, they would put them in everyone's mailbox. I'm pretty sure they just flew planes over entire city blocks and dropped them aerially.
