I'm using these for backups.
:'(
Yeah, so dead it's still being produced for nearly 10 years, and we even got a new 4K format now, wow, how can everyone on earth be so stupid and not realize they are not making money?
I don't know what's wrong with memesters but I never understood this personal quest against optical media? If it bothers you so much, to the point you deny reality, why don't you make such a fuss about LTO tapes, which is still being developed? Or MO disks? Or UDO? I guess you didn't have contact with those. Is this all a childhood trauma or something?

>>55971747
Except it's not. Bluray was the betamax is every respect except that it won.
Problem was that HD DVD kept being a little shit and holding on as long as possible, delaying market acceptance of either standard enough that streaming took over and the "next gen" optical format was, as OP put it, DOA.
Had HD DVD just given up years ago, Bluray would have had a few good years to make some money.
All-in-all, kind of worked out in all our favors.

the only company that was really pushing hd dvd was microsoft. blu ray was a sony thing and they held on tight to their dumb external hd dvd drives for about a year before they gave up.

To this day, I'm surprised that BluRay won the HD optical disc format war.
It seemed like a no-brainer to me that people would want to upgrade their DVD Player to an HD-DVD Player just because it was a name that they were familiar with, even though I knew even back then that BluRay was a superior format.

Same. I can get 50 25GB BD-Rs for about $27 on Amazon right now. That's 1250GB of space. When WD has something that compete at that price, I'll dump the medium.

>>55977048
What logical reason could there be to want them dead? Do you think they would just make a new format with better quality and less DRM? Why would they do that?
Unless you're another memester who's fine with streaming services inferior quality. Or if you just pirate. Where do you think quality rips come from, Hogwarts?
Fuck, I want BETTER quality, not worse.
>>55975822
>faster than the RX 480 in every test running old software (DX11 and OpenGL)

We need bluray to stay alive because pirates need a good source.
I don't know anyone who buys them, even though people thought it was a big deal back then.
>>55977388
>Where do you think quality rips come from, Hogwarts?
what if they just made it easy to download the 50gb video legally?
I mean it was not a problem 10 years ago, it certainly isn't a problem today.
Or you could offer a high quality compressed version of the video.
Then there would be no limit to how good the quality could get.
Getting a box that would play the video wouldn't be a problem as people would have the local source.
>>55968902
Fucking this
I was a proud console fag till these came out
>>55977449
>what if they just made it easy to download the 50gb video legally?
lol yeah right, Jewllywood is totally doing that. The only way they're releasing it as a simple file is if it is an executable with 10 layers of DRM up the ass, which is what will happen eventually.
What people don't notice about Windows 10 is that the entire OS is a DRM. This is why it's so hard to crack Windows Store Apps, it was intentionally designed to easily break if anything is wrong with numerous critical OS components. Couple that with technologies like Jewtel TSX, and you can kiss the idea of watching pirated media on Windows goodbye.
Anyway, a BluRay requires a constant 1x speed (up to 4.5 MB/sec) for playback, I don't know how much for 4K BluRay. Few people have a quality connection - uncapped - that can keep that much speed constantly.
>>55975071
>There are 40Mb/s videos on the YouTube
I highly doubt that. The videos are compressed to hell. That video, even if it is at 40Mb/s has tons of artifacting. Moreover, I'm not sure how you can even find out the supposed bitrate as 'Stats for Nerds' doesn't show anything relevant.
there is an advantage with Blue Ray ,
it's mdisc

it's strong dvd or blue ray
