drastically under-appreciated while K&R and SICP are vastly over-appreciated

I've read K&R and I'm in the middle of SICP, I've really enjoyed both.
I'll check that book out, but can you summarise why you like it?

It begins insanely basic and goes insanely deep in simplest terms possible, plain english all along, special focus on data structures. Kinda like "SICP and beyond for retards" in one volume. How it all fits together.

Never heard of it, but it looks glorious. Just downloaded the PDF version, I'm going to take a closer look in the coming days.
Practice of Programming and the Pragmatic Programmer.
book suggestions for C++?
Advanced Programming in the UNIX Environment, 3rd Ed.
It's getting a little dated, but not much because of how slowly the standards change. If you're doing hardcore systems programming, this is widely considered your reference and bible.

Just curious. Read K&R and thought It was great. Why is it over appreciated?
