I used a private tracker back when there were no way to get movies.
I had to seed 100gb in 12 weeks to get in.
I had a 128 kbit upload, so that was not an easy request.

Now that we have 100mbit upload for less than a netflix subscription, I don't see why seeding would be a problem if you torrent regulaly.

but even if you had to, you can save the data, download the torrent again and then seed.
And on private trackers, the content is not popular for more than a couple of days, so you are not making a lifetime commitment to seed on everything you download.
