Is it enough to code a program which connects a computer and phone both having an internet connection or does it need a server?

>Battery graph doesn't even show all the % used so far
>Been this way on both stock and ALL custom roms lately

If I have 20% battery left and check battery statistics I will have ~8 system and user apps apps with 1-5% drain on each, which doesn't add up even close to total battery % used.

I even tried a root battery statistics analyzer for wakelocks and such but it didn't really help. Any suggestions to try and fix or at least see what is going on?

Fill a bucket with water to the brim.
Add ammonia or other chemicals you have for drowsiness if inhaled lots.
Put on a tie.
Strap bucket over your head.
Also pull a plastic bag over head and bucket.
Try to seal it as best you can.
Pull the tie as hard as you can so you can't/barely breathe.
Sit down with head in bucket hunched over it.
Wait a few minutes.
Stand up as fast as you can.
Pass out, drown while unconscious.

Or just make an air tight plastic bag over your head and breathe until all the air is gone, pass out and die.

Try cleaning the contact pins with iso alcohol and check battery voltage with a multimeter, normally they're 3.3 volts and under 3 when almost depleted.

After building a new desktop, I now find myself with a fairly decent desktop that is no longer doing anything. I would like this to take the role of my current server running Debian on a laptop and external HDDs.

I have legitimate copies of Windows Server 2008. Is this way more than I need? Could I just get by with Win7 Pro? Would I be an idiot for switching away from Debian? The roles of this machine are NAS, Plex, printing, and legacy hardware support (discs, cards, and peripherals of all sorts.).

That's a question of noise and tear. The mobo can change speed accordingly to temp needs which makes it more quiet and wears the fans out less. If you don't care about that, or the mobo doesn't support such features, just plug em in wherever.

Are you even reading the specs and looking at the pictures?

The spectre has a glossy flip able touch screen. An i7, SSD, more USB 3.0 ports, thin and portable as fuck, better battery and more which is simply better.

The other is a piece of shit celeron, big clumsy bucket with non-glossy non-touch screen and a single usb 3.0 port. Slow and power hungry mechanical harddrive. Old integrated graphics.

Basically just compare the list of features. Mem and hdd space is the easiest shit to swap out so it's the least relevant information you can look for in a laptop.

So I want to buy a new GPU, probably either the 480 or the 1070. Still debating about how much I want to spend to "future proof" my rig. Thing is, my monitor only has a DVI port, no HDMI or Display port. I can get a AIB 480 card with a DVI slot and keep my monitor, or I can spend $800 and upgrade my monitor and get a 1070 (currently have a AOC 1080p 60hz monitor, and crossfire 270x).

What do? Is it worth it to go all in on a 1440/4k monitor?

Okay, so seeing the emerging console hacking scene for the PS Vita has inspired me to finally pick up coding. Someone has already written a Lua interpreter for the Vita, so I figured that would be a good first language to start with.

Two questions. Where can I find some decent resources online to help me learn Lua?

And secondly, for my first project, I want to try to port Ren'Py since the code is under a MIT license and playing VNs on the go sounds like a dream. However, the whole thing is written in Python. Would this be a decent project for someone learning programming or does the difference between languages make the whole thing unfeasible?

Dude if you have an iso, just use the Universal USB installer from PenDriveLinux's website.

You tell it you're installing W10, point it to the iso, point it to the usb and it does all the magic for you.

If my resume has web developer positions I did in college but I'm pursuing a career in programming C++, should I include the experience or should I replace some with relevant projects?
>>
>>55956532
Works the same for Windows 7. Unless your mobo is like over a decade old it can boot from usb.

Just use the universal usb thing how I said, and mash ESC/F2/F12 when booting. One of those usually gets you into the bios and you can boot from USB.
>>
>>55956551
Include experience and projects.

When you are detailing the previous positions (or if they ask you about them) put a focus on your responsibilities rather than the language specific skills.

Emphasize you are a good programmer and understand design/data structures.

On a new build, one of my two front USB ports gives power but no data. I just a get a Device not recognized error. The other port works fine. No driver problems as far as I can tell.

Is there an easy fix for this? Maybe I didn't plug the front panel connectors into the mobo correctly? All the ports on the back and the one other front port work fine so I'm not exactly hurting, but it is irritating.
>>
>>55956532
Windows 7 doesn't ship with native USB 3.0 Controller drivers iirc, just make sure to plug the USB drive into the legacy 2.0 ports on the back, if you bought a new mobo with absolutely no 2.0 ports only then would you need to install the drivers at the time of installation

Sheet, I'm reading up on this and that is quite a headache. If you REALLY don't want W10 due to whatever misconceptions you may hold I found these instructions on the rddit

Good luck soldier, we've all gone through times like these

Boot into a live linux system (with GParted or similar tool), I had ubuntu 14.04 ISO lying around. I won't instruct you on how to build a bootable USB stick with linux (I personally use DriveDroid on Android).

Once in the live system, open GParted and create a new NTFS partition of at least 4.5 GB.
Right click on your new partition in GParted and select "manage flags" and tick the "boot" checkbox.

Now (still in the live system) unpack your windows 7 ISO onto the new partition
Reboot out of your live system and unplug your USB disk.

Depending on how many sources and partitions you have, you might have to change your boot order to boot from your new partition, and your Windows 7 install should begin.

When installation is complete, you can delete your 4.5 GB partition.
>>
>>55956585
If they are USB 3.0 ports on the front make sure the usb header they are plugged into supports 3.0.

I would say yes for your interviewers and conciseness, but the algorithm that automatically scans your resume for keywords prolly doesn't give a shit.

Utilize everything at your disposal to get a foot in the door, if you're in uni then definitely talk personally to any recruiters that come from big companies.

Getting to a human in the company is literally the hardest part of the application process.

Once you're past the technical phone interview, most on-campus interviews will be an easy sanity check to see how well you can use data structures/think. But the important part of those is to not be an ass, they're also testing if you're a good communicator and teammate. Think about if you're behaving like someone they would WANT to work with.

Does Asus EZ installer have 2 options or only 1? I got 7 on skylake with a gigabyte tool. The tool has 2 options:
#1 mount iso+patch
#2 patch only

I tried option 1 it didn't work. So then I got a program which is free called YUMI. Used it to mount the iso. Then I went back to the gigabyte tool and tried option #2 patch only. And that worked for me.

Here is a list of 10 tools that can mount iso images. RUFUS is the most popular but YUMI is the one did the trick for me.

I love you too anon.

But yes, the EZ Installer tries to add the USB 3.0 drivers for Windows 7 Preinstall Environment so that it doesn't give that driver error.

If you have USB 2.0, you can use those ports without any extra fuss on top of the Universal USB Installer.
>>
>>55957138
Dont suppose you could burn the ISO to a DVD and try installing from disc?

This is all quite the surprising, Windows 7 shouldn't care if you're missing the USB 3.0 drivers if the USB drive is 2.0 and plugged into a 2.0 port, That is how my most recent W7 installation went. I wish I could help you find another ISO but ever since digital river links went down I've stopped pirating Windows

I lack a CD/DVD drive in the new computer.

I'm really thinking by this point that something somehow went wrong with the ISO.

Now I'm curious - is it possible to create an installation disc for 10 that is considered already activated? Or would I have to upgrade the current computer to 10 (it's running 7 at the moment) and create a disc from there?

Which provokes me to ask the question, is it possible to create a setup disc for 7 using my current installation?

When I upgraded from 7 to 10 it gave me the option to modify the current installation or create a USB disc, it didn't activate until after I was at the desktop and connected to the internet. That was using a pirated copy of 7 too.

Although the free upgrade grace period is already over

I honestly dont know if its possible to use 7 to make a setup disc, I would doubt it though.

Alright everybody I'm back. Sorry I'm insanely busy tonight and my internet keeps going out. The problem here is not the usb ports. It's the usb CONTROLLER. It shouldn't matter if you use a 2.0 device in a 2.0 slot, it still falls under xhci controller standard which is on all skylake boards and means that unpatched windows 7 can't install from usb. If you did install from a DVD then you would need to add the drivers after the fact using an Ubuntu iso or the window recovery command line or something, which I think is what the reddit thing was about.

So the patching thing is important. I would try running the EZ tool on a third computer, or using a different program to mount the iso like winCDEmu. The error code it gave you seems to have something to do with broken links.

This all comes up on here every few days now that skylake is so popular. The annoying thing is that it's up to the manufactures to each provide their own patches and they're all different. I suppose you could try merging the xhci controller drivers manually, but I've never tried that. I also heard of a tool called Easy2Boot that lets you write an ISO to a partition on your hard drive and boot it for the install, but I've never tested that either.

This is more /v/ related, but you can't have any sort of intelligent discussion there. Is it possible to make a "port" of a game without access to the source code and documentation? As in, the game is effectively an 'adaptation', with custom programming/art for the new version(s)? Would there be any situations where 'adapting' the game would be beneficial rather than porting it, like maybe the game has framerate dependent programming?

Both ripping off a game and building an emulator to run unmodified game code based on the CPU architecture are more feasible than porting without documentation.

If you know the engine, and can rip model/texture data out of the game then a rip off could go quite far

I was saying your second suggestion is more akin to ripping off a game, by making the exact same thing that you see, that is something people do. Also overwatch is on PC.

I dont know how people know where to look but for example I know DMC4 modding has you using a hex editor to use mods

and a Game like DaS and DaS3 have texture dumping mods already widely available

I imagine if someone is familiar/good enough they could rip data out of the PC version of Overwatch and use it for other stuff

Guys I fucked up
Like I seriously, really, fucked up
I rooted my HP 7 plus 4.2.2 android tablet using PC Kingoroot after hours and hours of investigating, it did a factoy reset and my tablet was rooted
I didn't create a back up and it deleted everything but that's not really a problem as I can and did resintall everything yesterday, everything was allright, super user and everything, installed lucky patcher, everything was fine
Then I turned off my tablet and went to sleep, and in the morning I turned it on it did a factory reset
And then I turned it off and on again and it did a factory reset
I can find very little information on the internet, maybe I'm searching for it using wrong terminology, does anyone please know how to approach this kind of problem?

I got a laptop dirt cheap from a friend, and it currently has windows 10 on it.

I want to turn it into a comfy machine to watch anime and read dojuns on. I'll also use it to buy things online. I've been reluctant to put my info on my desktop gaymen computer because it has windows 10 on it and I don't want big boogyman brother microsoft to have my info (considering they don't have it already, considering windows 10 actually does mine your information (I'm not sure if it's a /g/ myth or real.))

Considering what I'm going to do with the laptop, should I do the ol' install Gentoo? Are there different versions to install?

I hear a constant electronical buzzing in the background when I plug in my headphones.

How do I know if it's the motherboard, the case, or the headphones, or anything else, and how do I fix it?
>>
>>55958285
Get a DAC+amp. If the problem persists it's probably the headphones. If the problem persists after replacing them it's probably the NSA bugs and you should politely but firmly ask them to turn them off. Install Windows 10 and you should find that the NSA has accepted your offering.

Nigga stop being paranoid, it's fucking /g/ they have a bunch of stupid memes.

Windows 10 doesn't really spy on you.

Now I would either recommend this>>55958274
But he didn't mention that you need Unity Tweak Tool, and Arch-Dark theme.

Manjaro also wouldn't be bad.

If not just put Windows 10 or 7, really it's not what people make it seem. If the NSA really wanted to see your shit they could no matter what OS or hardware you have.

>>55958320
Just get a $30 sound card, or whatever fits your budget and is known to be good. Motherboards are usually the cause for that problem, and if it isn't then just get a new headset, honestly it doesn't hurt you to get a sound card, audio is better than the one your motherboard has.
>>
>>55958320
try diff headphones. the buzzing is most likely caused by electrical interference which is why an external dac/amp would fix it.

So I'm currently using Linux Mint MATE and I'm having some strange issues with text becoming invisible in at least two applications.
The first is the file manager, where file names are invisible unless I select the file, at which point the name is displayed normally.
The second is the terminal, where I'm having similar issues.
Text is completely visible while I type commands into terminal, but when I execute it, the text I typed and any output becomes invisible, though it can be viewed if I highlight it.
Both of these can be temporarily fixed with a reboot, though they seem to come back after some time.
Does anyone have any clue what's going on? There don't seem to be any forum threads on it anywhere.

I want to replace my old 300 GB laptop hard drive with a larger disk and since my PC is old and shit I don't expect much of a performance upgrade by going SSD, plus I don't have a lot of money.

My question is, can I just throw any internal 1TB 2.5" HDD into my laptop or do I have to buy a hard drive that is explicitly marketed as a laptop hard drive?
Old HDD is a Hitachi HTS545032B9A300.

There's a good chance you'd still see a good boost in loading times and OS performance with an SSD even on an older machine.
Most any 2.5" SATA drive will work, the only concern is the drive thickness, some laptops don't fit the thicker drives.

Depends on what you're doing, like how Windows is better for gaming, Linux is better for application development, programming, and anything technical. I prefer Linux as it's reasonably lightweight, fast, and much more customizable. If you want to try it out, you can install ubuntu or fedora onto a flash drive and try them out in a live boot.
