Is Fedora Linux too unstable?

It isn't unstable. There are always two releases of Fedora. Currently there is Fedora 24 and Fedora 23. Use 23 if you wish for absolute stability. Also, use GNOME.

Fedora's fine, as is nearly other traditional distro... until you get into Arch/Gentoo or any other rolling release style distro, you won't have problems. Keep a LiveCD USB handy if you only have access to one computer, and invest in a small backup (USB or hard drive)

Reminder that all you really need is a text editor, compiler, and web browser for literally any task, and this can be accomplished with anything

Probably the most stable distro I've used down the years. Had far more issues with buntu personally.

I use Mate. It just works. I use Kupfer for some Gnome-esque software launching.

Gnome 3 is apparently a lot better these days, but whenever I try to use it one program I use a lot consistently shits itself for reasons that I can't pin down but which don't appear when using any DE other than Gnome.

Just try a few DEs and see which one works for you.

Ubuntu is based on Debian Unstable, and then they tack more shit on top of that. Sounds REAL stable.

Fedora is almost certainly more stable than Ubuntu

The problem with Ubuntu is that some bugs are left for the shell life of the distribution.
For example utilities based on udisks have been unable to format flash drives on 14.04. 2 years later the bug is still here because their policy won't allow for a udisks upgrade.

With Fedora, something broken will probably be corrected much sooner.

I've been to this years Flock to Fedora conference, which was amazing. Anyways, if you're a python developer then you should be interested, because Python developers are the target audience for their Fedora Loves Python movement and they wish to make Fedora best distro for Python devs. Also the thing is that 1 out of commiters is an Red Hat employee, so this shit is done by professionals.

I was pretty happy with it for a month, but a new nvidia driver got installed a week or two ago and now I can't get X to work.
