My PC is resetting rarely. I get no BSOD at all, just a reset as if I pressed the reset button.

The event viewer says Kernel-power critical problems. Also recently I had memory problems, I solved my problems by cleaning the RAM slots, and then the PC booted fine. But back then I was getting BSODs.

Both of the drives that have an OS on them set the drive that holds their OS as C: when you're on that OS, respectively

i am a cheap asshole and i want to use an old laptop's screen as a monitor for my PC.

is there a way to do this?
>>
>>55942978
Yes, I've done it before.

Take the screen apart, find the model number of the panel then start looking for control boards for that model on ebay.

It was years ago so I don't know if you'll find one for the exact panel you have. Building a stand or bracket for it is fun part, made mine out of meccano.

But if you're a cheap asshole then you can get monitors from 2nd hand shops for less than the control boards.

What's the best browser for a computer with a really shitty CPU? My dad has a crappy laptop that he uses for only browsing the internet and it's slow even with the SSD I put in it recently. Not worried about its RAM usage, it has 4gb and he doesn't understand how tabs work so he only ever uses one, CPU is the big bottleneck.

I am about to have a seizure. The cords simply refuse to go into my PSU. The MB and PERIF ones work without issue. The CPU and VGA ones absolutely will not go in at all and I cannot figure out why.

is that the one supplied with the PSU?
>>
>>55943085
If you have no real windows specific things you need, just give linux a shot.

Worst comes to worse, you hate it and can just switch out. It's easier to go back to Windows than to leave your comfort zone once you are on windows.

I recommend either Xubuntu or Linux Mint. (Really I don't recommend linux mint but everybody raves about it as "the linux for people who are new to linux")
>>
>>55943085

>>
>>55943182
Yes. All of them are. I have discovered the opposite end WILL go into the PSU, but the other one will not go into the GPU at all.

It might start throwing some sparks from those capacitors. Just put it on a wood table (something non conductive) and give power via the PSU and use the screw driver trick on the motherboard I/O panal (where you would hook up a case's on button to) to turn on the motherboard.

It might spark and send out smoke, and it does, its localized so it wont arc or anything, just be on standby to flip the power button on the PSU

I've got the the same PSU.

I have a question here..
>>55943138
in this pic you posted, it looks like your connector is 3x2 pins. That is 3 pins across 2 pins down
Why are you doing that when all the VGA connectors on the G2 are 8 pin ( 4x2)

I read every manual available to me and have done the best I can dredging every bit of information from year old forum posts and /sqt/. The case itself has an absolute garbage manual. The only point where I genuinely fucked up was in regard to a few cables and I fixed that. Vibration and heat/cool cycles disrupts the thermal paste interface over time. Just get some thermal paste and remove/clean/remount the heat sink.

You don't wear out your storage device (if you turn off hybrid sleep).

>>
>>55943882
I would be more than happy to help you out with your build if you still need help. If it's your first time it can be rough to do alone.

WRT your video card, I was very worried about the 6+2 pin connector. The 2 pin notch MUST be under the 6 pin notch. You shouldn't be able to pull out the 2 pin solo before the 6 pin with the latch comes off.
>>
>>55944524
Definitely not. Most likely you're NOT getting updates because it's a pirated copy.

You're actually just more vulnerable to things bad people find out by reverse-engineering security fixes in those updates you're not getting.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Also clean off the thermal paste on whatever cooler you're going to use and the CPU before you apply more.

You can gently swab it off using an alcohol dipped cotton swab. There's a recommended alcohol % but I can't remember off the top off my head, just google it.

Then when you're applying the thermal paste just put a juicy pea-sized orb in the center of the cpu and squish it evenly with the heatsink when it put it on.

There should be enough to create a thin layer, but make sure it's not too much to where it'll squeeze out the sizes.

My first language was Perl. It's a more forgiving language as it is loosely typed and can work around some of the errors you might produce as a newbie. I would suggest the Learning Perl O'Reilly book. It has plenty of projects and little assignments to help you learn how to program. Alternatively, it will introduce to you a good handful of programming concepts. Perl is NOT Object-Oriented by design, however. So keep that in mind. But there do exist modules that allow you to make it OOP.

Good luck

>>55950766
I do replace my CPU, it's the cheapest upgrade option.
I'm rolling on AMD I built back in 2010 currently, at some point I just replaced the Phenom with an FX and got a new graphics card.

So I think the X99 platform is a good choice if the 6950X gets cheap in the future, I can get that along with the new graphics card and be good for another couple of years.

Also the whole delidding process scares me, but it has to be done after 3 years, because the thermal paste turns into powder overtime and doesn't cool shit.
That's the biggest downside of 6700K for me.

Would there be any point in changing our architecture from the typical binary computer model to something like decimal, or even hexadecimal?

Having 10 points of data per 'bit' (0 to 9) instead of 2 points (0 or 1) would surely give us some massive gains in data throughput, right?

I'm having memory problems, especially with firefox.

I have 16gb of mem but whenever I use firefox, chrome and a game at the same time windows will pop up a low memory warning and suggests closing firefox. Always suggests only firefox but it also kills my game automatically. I have a mem monitor on a 2nd screen and I DO have several gigs of memory left at any given time this happens.

What fucking gives?
>>
>>55951652
which program is actually using all the memory?

Looking at individual processes it seems "systems and compressed memory" is eating the most of it. Pic related.

Still not even close to 16gb as you can see. Why it says 64% I don't understand either.

MSI is the only decent choice for the autistically high end. If you're not there (>2000 USD) then Asus, Gigabyte, and Lenovo will probably have a better deal. Even cheaper (~1000 USD) Acer really shines.

Honestly the only way to get a decent deal on a GAYMEN LAPPY is to grab something stupid overpriced on sale, so brand shouldn't really be a huge concern outside of avoiding no-names and cheap Chink shit.
>>

and don't bump after a fucking minute
>>
>>55952815
I find it difficult to take the opinion of someone who can't differentiate between 'tier' and 'tear' seriously.
I will agree that MSI is overpriced though, but when you're already forking out for 980M SLI it's worthwhile to go whole ham and not cheap out on features you might not see in the specs, like cooling, which Asus is infamous for.
Posted from my Asus ROG laptop, sitting on an external cooler right now.
>>
>just bought a new case
>transferred all the hardware into it and added a coolermaster T4
>plug everything in and PC powers up (all fans turn on but mobo doesn't beep, power button LEDs don't turn on) but neither of my monitors detect an input.

I've checked my RAM and jumped the CMOS, replaced the new cooler with the stock one again and nothing. Video doesn't work using on board graphics either so can't be the gpu

So I assume either the mobo or the psu have died but i can't figure out why or which one.

Make sure they have drivers for your hardware:

http://www.groovypost.com/howto/downgrade-windows-10-to-windows-7-windows-81/2/

then patch your windows 7 installer with the USB 3.0 driver patch put out by your mobo manufacture. When you're done you may also need to put drivers onto your C: drive manually to get it to recognize flashdrives and ethernet.

Paste doesn't matter.

>>
>>55954272
Ok so here's the thing, I took this question from someone else on 4chan who posted it and got 1 reply calling him a dumbass.
It might just be quantum computing but isn't it because with zeroes and ones we can already sum, subtract, multiply and divide by messing around with binary values?
So we just don't move out because since our computers have been based off binary for decades moving to something different would be like reinventing the wheel?
>>
>>55954491
Computers aren't magic. They exist in the real world. We currently use binary because there are two easy, real world states it is based on; Electrically charged or not electrically charged. You can't just program in a new one.
>>
>>55954491
No. Ask yourself what would operate on more than 1s and 0s. How do you move beony electrically being on and off? Everything in data processing resolves itself directly to yes/no states- CD's, SSD/HDDs, electrical pulses over cabling, the states in RAM and the digital logic of CPUs. Even if a storage medium had a way of representing more complex states simultaneously it would still have to be resolved into binary before being used. Quantum Qbits are the main exception and that's about dealing with something radically different, and even perfectly implemented it isn't a good fit for most everyday uses. Now neural processing is changing the WAY single bits interact, but we're ultimately just talking about more creative ways of working with binary.
