You can open GUI programs inside Windows using Bash on Ubuntu on Windows using Xming
>Download Xming
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xming/
>Grab a program using apt-get
>run export DISPLAY=:0
>run your program
Xming will open your program!

You could already do this through SSH with PuTTY+XMinge. This isn't surprising.

I made this in like 2012. Glad I can finally use bash without the hassle of cygwin.

desu
Fuck X server.
Whats the point of that when virtually all linux software is also available on windows?

Deprecated. Use VcXsrv

It was updated this week.

Closed source paid version which is not available for public download
>using windows 10
It sucks, I was hoping it'd be decent, but locking/file permissions are inconsistent.
It's better to setup a virtual machine, then setup samba and just ssh into the virtual box.
This is what I've found to be the best for development on Windows.
>>55937949
Or you could just use cygwin or a real distro
>>55937949
>open source version is from 2007
Yep it works
it needs to support more colors
>bash on windows
I guess thats neat kinda like having a boat on a river of shit instead of swimming in the river of shit. But at the end of the day you are still on a river of shit and it stinks

>>55939667
W10 is pretty good though
>>55939591
wait I got a better analogy
Its like having shoes when you are walking down a designated shitting street but at the end of the day you are still in India.
>>55937949
I switched recently from Arch to W10 because of it.
It's so good.
>>55939894
>Arch
well there's your problem.
>>55937949
Great, now you can rm -rf %windir% before you install gentoo
