4GB will be fine for 1080p. HBM seems to somewhat mitigate the issue of running over budget as well. Games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, which demands well over 4GB at 1080p, run great both in terms of minimums and averages. Even at 1440p the Fury X posts higher minimums than the 980 Ti, despite its apparent shortage of VRAM.

It's HBM not GDDR5. It's not quite as ideal as 8GB of VRAM but it'll still handle "more" than 4GB very well. The fury also performs better than the 480.

Watch out for coil whine though.

No, 4GB are no longer enough for 1080p. If you want to be set for the next 1-2 years at least get 6GB, if you plan to use it 3-4, get 8.

Even if the VRAM did become an issue, drop the fucking texture setting down one notch and get on with your life. A Fury will still run much better overall settings than anything else you'll get for that money right now. You're not even going to notice the fucking difference from not having the textures designed for 4K if you're playing at 1080p.

They didn't use the "Very high" texture settings.
That keeps the Vram usage under 4gb.

At 1080P, ROTTR will use 7.1gb of Vram on my Gtx 1080.
