I used to hate C# until I had to use it.

It's actually pretty okay. Better than Java. CLR and Mono are both good so it's not exactly a MS poster child anymore.

Looking back I don't remember a single good argument against it. Mostly just cat-v snowflakes rambling about style and pointless minutiae.

Mostly the fact that it has less syntactical overhead, nifty features like linq and yes, better tooling but that's not strictly related to the language itself.

I also found the documentation and APIs to be much less painful. Oracle doc sometimes feels like it's written in another freaking language. .NET has a reputation for long ass method calls but it's still nowhere near Java's ObjectPurposeReadWriterFactory monstrosities.

Java's edge is that the JVM runs on pretty much anything. I wouldn't use either for performance critical applications so I don't know or care which is faster.
