Have a budget, but don't know where to start? This will recommend you a parts list based on price.
General build advice including chipset compatibility, power supply advice, Windows activation information.
Information about how to build a pc, how to select components, and much, much more advice.
- Post your list, rate other anon's, ask questions in general.
- Always state the purpose of your PC and your budget. If asking for improvements, state whether you want to price improved or the quality.

I'm just making this because I think it's nice to consolidate this discussion, rather than having a dozen pcpartpicker threads per hour. Feel free to suggest changes to the OP.

Well, Just to kick things off, this is my attempt at getting the absolute most In-game frames per dollar, poorfag mode. The goal is to have a good looking system that gets high frame-rates in games, but stay as budget as possible. This means ram must have heat spreaders(for looks), semi-modular psu at least, ect. I'm not actually building it, just a mental exercise I suppose.
>why no SSD?
Not necessary for the goal of the build.
>why no rx 480 4gb?
Impossible to find, stock cooler is garbage any way.
>why no r9 390?
Same price as 1060, but about 10% lower power, except games that use the async compute.

Upgrade.jpg

So I've had my computer for at least 4 years already, but today my old 7850 died. I figured since I'm replacing the GPU, I might as well upgrade my previous CPU (which was an i3-2120) and buy a 1080p monitor (been using 1600x900). How's this looking as an upgrade? The motherboard on there is the one I currently have.

On the off chance the i3-2120 won't in some way drag the 970 down and would be fine to keep for playing stuff like FO4, please let me know though. Oh and my Neo Eco 520w will still be fine, right? I looked into it a bit and it should be, but I figured I'd ask anyway.
>>
>>55925289
Budget was approved for four of these. Deep diving into CEPH and Storage Spaces Direct. I get to keep and use for whatever, and work is paying the tab. Pretty happy about that.

I don't have the SAS controller listed, but each node will get a SAS2LP-MV8 as well, and I already have the 10GB switch. Nested virtualization is going to be interesting.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/6dWgJV
>>
>>55926780
Is this what you have or what you are buying?
>>
>>55926813
Everything but the motherboard is what I plan on buying, sorry.
>>
>>55926796
pcpartpicker says you're short by 2 sata cables. How do you plan on fitting all that into such a tiny case? Seems like a kick ass work machine though.
>>
>>55926836
It seems like you're paying a lot for a 3rd gen I5 to support something you already have. Try something like this...

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/7zdykT
>>
>>55926891
The aforementioned SAS2LP-MV8

They don't take that into account.

The Node 804 is designed for this.
>>
>>55926780
Unless you're buying it used you'd be quite a stupid individual to buy a 970 at that price
>>
>>55926905
ahh that makes sense. My only other question, would a UPS make sense with this? Or would it be using an external wall UPS?
>>
>>55926893
Yeah the alternative version I was looking at was running me about $100 more than the one I posted, though yours seems to be a much better alternative aside from the 1060 being sold out everywhere I've seen (same with the RX 480 which I was originally looking at). Thanks, anon.

>>55926969
Yeah I hardly know anything about computer hardware (especially current stuff), so I can't really disagree with you.
>>
>>55927076
I have an existing UPS that I'll be using as well.

Remember, I'm going to be building 4 of these, and interconnecting them with 10gig-e
>>
>>55927085
Normally I'd recommend the 4gb rx 480
But due to your shit processor and the fact that amd still has that issue to fix, i'd recommend the 1060.
You have to snipe a deal but you can get it for 249$ I've seen it. Today even it's been available at that price.
Just gotta be really quick because it sells out in minutes
Use nowinstock.net and email notifiers on the retail websites.
The 1060 beats out the 970 by a good margin, cheaper than the one you listed. More vram, less power etc etc.
Not to mention you can overclock it far past stock 980 levels
>>
first time building, any suggestions?

http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/MLgvWX
>>
>>55927123
Oh, man that site is perfect. I was just about to backorder a $280 version of the 1060 on Newegg. Thanks, man. Yeah I definitely like your build more. The extra price would be well worth it.
>>
>>55927090
I find this really fascinating. My job doesn't involve computers at all, I'm just /v/ spillover if I'm being 100% honest, but I really enjoy learning about different uses of computers.
What kind of data is the CEPH and Storage Spaces Direct managing? Is it research data of some kind? Corporate level economical data? It's very interesting to me what lies outside the consumer space.

While I'll be playing with CEPH, it will likely end up being a Server 2016 storage spaces direct cluster when it gets to production, as well as run about 160 Hyper-V VM's.

It's a proof of concept, as traditional SAN's start to nickel and dime you for license costs. If it runs the way we expect it to, we'll start replacing the dev environment SAN's (VNX 9xxx).
>>
>>55927142
do you ''''''''''''''really'''''''''''' need 32gb of ram?
also the 1tb ssd is a bit excessive, the idea behind and SSD for personal computers is that you keep the OS and important applications on it, and put everything else on a cheaper, 1tb+ HDD

i suggest 16gb of ram, a 120gb ssd and a 2tb HDD
>>
>>55927191
thanks, any point in having an i7/ any other changes?
>>
>>55927191
>>55927210
A 120GB SSD is really tight, and SanDisk Ultra series is decent.

I wouldn't go any smaller than a 480GB SSD on a new build.
>>
>>55927142
Cheaper z170 motherboard, that thing is overpriced
You don't need 32gb ram, get 16gb but rated for around 2800mhz. Don't cheap out on ddr4, it makes a difference this time around, get some good latencies.
I'd also go for a high tier air cooler instead such as the noctua or the dark rock pro 3, the kraken is a fantastic cooler but it gets considerably noisy if it'll bother you

What are your needs? It seems you're gaming at 4k or 1440p mostly. If that's the case, 32gb of ram will absolutely never get used. You'd be lucky to use 10gb.

This is how I trimmed some money off that build while sticking to an all black/white color scheme.

question: my PC is bluescreening on login screen, and my HDD also died (I boot off the solid state so it still boots)

should i try RMAing the motherboard or just give up and replace the mobo with something with an i7? how much can i keep from this PC to minimize the damage? i've had it for just over a year, so i'm pretty dissapointed.

Well it's certainly £180 cheaper, and will perform exactly the same. The case is another area you could easily shave off some money, but if you really like it, go for it. It's a quality case.
>>
>>55927349
I just have a question. I really love your site since it makes it very easy for new people to begin the search for parts and you update it very frequently. however, looking at the peripherals lists, I see the monitor one hasn't been updated for 8-9 months. do monitors not get released as often as PC components? are there not better, newer ones available?
>>
>>55927405
mainly because I don't have any idea what I'm doing. someone said the gaming one was really good for that price so I put it in there. what would you suggest? changing the mobo or the case? is all RAM pretty much the same as long as I get ddr4-3200?

>>55927442
mATX mobos are smaller, but typically have less features. They are meant to fit in smaller cases. The case you picked out is a full tower case. You can opt for a smaller case, and save some $$$. Or you can get a (slightly) better mobo for the same price or cheaper.

/pcbg/ was kind of a pun because printed circuit board. I like your layout.

Idc what the specifics are though, I just created the thread to consolidate all the "rate my build" threads that get 6 replies and then 404. Also something something community something.

The rule of thumb for generals is to let the first thread bump limit or reach the last page before making a new one though. Use /vg/ for reference.
>>

Yeah, now there are two threads. The other OP should delete the new thread, until this one is over.

But the case, power supply, and monitor can last multiple systems. Same with the expensive mech keyboard.

http://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/YdDtpb
This build is a mix of modest, good and great components from Logical Increments. Monitor isn't there because I already have it: Asus VG248QE (1 ms / 144 HZ / 1920x1080). Some prices had to be added manually because PcPartPicker wasn't able to detect prices from Amazon.it.

> Budget
Not really strict, but I wouldn't want to spend more than 700 euro, especially for wasted potential since my needs aren't really special

> Purposes of the build
Working: writing documents, creating powerpoints and various kinds of presentations, surfing the net (a lot)
Entertainment: watching anime and vidya, listening to music (already have an external DAC/amp, then no need for a perfomant soundcard)
Games: Fistful of Frags and Team Fortress 2 for now, I might get also Chivalry Medieval Warfare and Garden Warfare 2 in the future. I don't mind low/bad graphic quality, what I'm looking for is just a stable and high performance even after some hours of continuous gameplay. I want to exploit the potential of my monitor to the fullest, even though I know that for Chivalry and Garden Warfare 2 it will be hard to reach 144 fps. Is there a problem if I can only reach, let's say, 75-80 fps in those two games?
1) I'm still not sure that the CPU I chose might be enough for those titles. I could always change it with a i5 6500, the extra money aren't a problem to me at all.
2) Silence and cool temperatures of the PC are important features to me. The temperature in my room is always around 25°C and I might add some fans to the case when it's necessary in the future.
3) why getting a cheap GTX 750ti when there are better options? Looking at some videos on YT, the GTX 750Ti performs really well on the games I'm interested in at max/high settings. I would gladly use med or even low settings if this provided more fps.
4) why that mobo? It has all I need.
5) why no HDD? Already have a 1TB external HDD. I want SSD for short load times.
>>
>>55930079
Very good as is. I would change the 400R for the Enthoo Pro, but you do not have to.
>>
>>55930517
>http://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/YdDtpb

why a 520W PSU when even a 300W one would be overpowered for this build?

also i see DDR4-2400 but the H110 chipset only supports up to DDR4-2166
>>
>>55927339
Also going the extra like 10 to get a 650 watt PSU for sli isn't a bad idea, 550 would be close with OC
>>
>>55930517
You have about ~150 Eurodollars to upgrade that build, yes? I would highly recommend getting a better GPU than that, since you have a sweet 144Hz gaming screen. Not sure how much the RX480/470 are now in Euroland, but take a look at those as an alternative. If you have enough Eurodollars left after upgrading the GPU, consider getting a 256GB SSD instead of 128GB.
>>

Are you really sure that 300W might be enough?
> also i see DDR4-2400 but the H110 chipset only supports up to DDR4-2166
my bad, I need to change that.

>>55930569
I really don't have a limit to say the truth, 200 euro of upgrade could be fine if they were necessary. You're not the first person recommending me a RX 480/470. They're surely great video cards: RX 480 goes for around 289 euro here, whereas I haven't seen prices of the 470 yet. Aren't those video cards a bit too powerful for my games? are they silent? Do they overheat? do they work well on my mobo and my CPU?
>>
>>55930602
D14 -> D15 or D15S

>>
>>55930626
PartPicker shows your max power need as 182 W. As PSUs run optimally not over 80% load, everything over 230W should suffice.

When you look at PartPicker's breakdown over power usage you'll notice that the assumptions are made very precise.
>>
>>55930668
Yeah, but why would you settle with 300W when the price difference hardly exists.
At worst he gets to use the 520W in a new build or have a secure upgrade path for this one.

It's not like he's overshooting it with a kW PSU.
>>
>>55930636
I was thinking about the 15 but it's the maximum size the case supports, would it be a good idea to still get it?

Regarding the SSDs I'm gonna put them in raid1 and 256GB is big enough
>>
>>55930701
>>55930668
yeah I really don't mind a more powerful PSU. I'd rather have more power than requested than the contrary. So what about this build instead? Could it work according to you? http://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/gpKf9W

Any mATX case /very/ similar to this one (Phanteks Enthoo Evolv ITX)?
It's quite big for a Mini-ITX case, and if I went with 1150 socket, I'd only have 2 ram slots for 16GiB total, and I'm worried that I'll want more than 16 in the future.

I want to go 1150 because of Xeon E3-1231v3. Are any 1151 Xeons basically a 6700 but no iGPU? They seem to be much pricier, is it worth the DDR4?

Also are higher-end motherboards worth the higher clocked RAM compatibility if I'm not going to OC?

I'm looking to upgrade my r9 380 to something that can handle ultrawide 1440p 60fps when i decide to upgrade my monitor. Should i go with either a gtx 1080 which would run me at least 750€ or should i go crossfire r9 nanos since my local parts shop has them on sale for 350€ a pop so a crossfire nano config would cost me 700€ flat, though i don't know if a 750w psu is enough for them. whaddaya think anons? would a 4690k bottleneck the nanos/the 1080?

I'm going to do a multitude of things on my computer: Gaming will be mostly racing games: (GRID, DIRT, rFactor, etc.) I do a lot of net browsing with shitload of tabs (both Chrome and Firefox) I do audio production (Reason, Reaper), HD media consumption and streaming (including sports) and I'll be using Autodesk and Solidworks.

Also can anyone can find a comparable but cheaper Mobo?

Thanks
>>
>>55936147
What features do you even want from the MOBO? Also, unless you're playing at 4k, I'm pretty sure the 1080 is pointless for racing games. They don't tend to be the most graphically intensive.

As for the rest... the PSU is mildly overkill unless you plan to do SLi later or something, from what I understand of CAD you might want to consider getting 32 GB of RAM for it, and with a budget like yours there's no real reason not to spend a hundred bucks for an SSD.
>>
Sorry this might not be the thread for it, but I've been putting together my computer piece by piece and had planned on getting a 1060. The only 1060 I've been able to find was a Zotac version, but I've never heard of them. Do they make good quality stuff or should I stay away? The things I've read about the specific card seemed good, but I wanted as unbiased an opinion as possible.

>tfw fell for the upgrade mobo/ram/cpu/gpu/psu and stick with the same monitor/type of hdd/pc case for over a decade meme

I like my monitor because I'm used to it and the Pentium D era case makes it very sleeper rig-esque which i like but really starting to think an ssd might be worthwhile... Samsung is the best brand, right? I hear there's lifespan issues related to how much is being written, should i disable pagefile? i have 32gb of ram so i don't need it anyway for most things.

i know the difference in sequential speed is only going to be like going from Son Goku to Raditz, but the difference in 4k random speed is like Kuririn vs Perfect Cell, so im hoping the improvements are massively noticeable.
>>
>>55936613
There's nothing wrong with Zotac stuff but nothing special either. They tend to use a lot of plastic rather than metal, but otherwise fine.
>>
>>55936919
>a lot of plastic rather than metal
Should I be concerned about that? I don't know very much about computers, but isn't having a bunch of plastic on a component that'll be 60-70 degrees under load pretty bad? Or is it, like, some polymer with a really high melting point?

It won't melt unless your gpu hits like 98C, which a 1060 never will.

Not sure if what you're saying is you want to try to over clock, or not. But if you're looking to try first off you need to get the version of that processor with a K at the end of the name. The non K intel processors can't be overclocked.

What should I keep in mind when I'm building a PC? I tend to play games on the low end of the graphics spectrum, like 2d games.fighters and so on, but I also do a ton of research, and often keep tons of different browser tabs at once looking at different articles and web apps, as well as use Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, along with other intensive graphic design apps. What kind of build should I be planning, so I can run this kind of workspace, without my computer slowing to a crawl?
>>
>>55938944
Depending on how intensive you use photos hope and what not you may want to consider an i7 over an i5, first off. Second youday want between 16 and 32 gigs of ram, again depending on how intensive you run the machine, and depending on if you ever want to upgrade it if you have to. Next you'll want a graphics card. People will shill Nvidia or amd, depends on what route you want to go and how much you want to spend. As of right now the gtx 1070 is considered a sweet spot in terms of price to performance, and that is what I would go for. Now if you're not going to overclock an air cooler like a hyper 212 evo will be good enough, and on that note you should also make sure you don't get the "K" version of whatever processor you get, as the K version is the overclockable one. You'll want around a 600 to 800 watt psu, might be abl3 to get away with less, not sure, but a 760 or so would be a good spot if you decide to upgrade. And then the case is your shot.

watch videos on youtube of people building pcs. some things may vary, but you get the basic idea. it's not hard, really. you just need to be organized.

about parts that can break, don't hold and throw your processor like a monkey and you should be fine.

You definitely want to read the manuals, and watch videos. "Legos for adults" is accurate, but some people read it "as easy as Legos", and forget the "for adults" part.

That said, millions of normal people have assembled their PCs by themselves. Unless you have a medical condition that prevents from using your hands to plug components into place, you should be fine.

Install the IO shield before putting the mobo in the case.

Atleast you'll have someone to turn to if it dies.

Those hard drives hit the price bottom. They're 'overpriced' for what they are, but selling them for less than that would really just mean a loss for the seller.

For a non-k i5-6500 there's little reason to move up from the stock cooler, but with Hyper 212 costing as little as it does, why not.

A 960 isn't a 'good' video card.
It's a mid tier card that wont overheat and a 'cheap' mobo or case certainly wont influence performance in a negative way.

it doesn't really matter right? I can just get the cheapest asus model? optical = digital = nothing to fuck up?
>>
>>55950162
1) honestly it's the first time I hear someone say that stock coolers are noisy. Is the noise unbearably loud?
2) the case I chose should have a good airflow. It has 2 stock fans installed and it has room for 3 more fans.
I'm worried about overheating more than noise.
>>
>>55950815
Loud, but not unbearable. Worst case scenario, you install it, decide it's annoying, get a cheap aftermarket a week later.
>>
>>55950984
Yes, no problem. Cooler Master 212 is cheap also here after all.

Talking about my build: http://it.pcpartpicker.com/list/kkQTCy

I still can't decide if a i5 6500 is better than a i3 6100 for me. I don't mind the extra money for the i5 honestly, if i5 really grants a better perfomance than i3. I'm not going to use my PC exclusively for gaming, I'm the kind of guy that keeps the PC on all day and uses it for basically everything (be it work or general entertainment). What I want is a stable performance over a large amount of time.
>>
>>55951101
Single core performance of the 6100 is obviously better but becoming less important in the future with dx12/vulkan.
>>
>>55951158
Price difference from i3 and i5 here is less than 80€, but i5 might be a better long-time investment, in case I want to change my video card in the future. Basically any video card could fit into my case after all.
>>
I'm starting from scratch with a 1070 build. Should I go for a monitor with 1440p/60fps or one with 1080p/144fps?

They are both within each others price range, will the extra fps be worth the lower resolution?
>>
>>55951410
Depends on the game really. Third person action games (GtaV, Witcher3) look mostly the same at 60 or 90 fps.

Twitch reaction games like first person shooters or rts games really benefit from going above 100 fps, but they tend to run on weaker hardware easily. My gtx 960 runs Overwatch at 90+ fps on ultra, for example.
>>
>>55951526
GTX 960 FTW
Did you try playing other first person fps?
>>
My 1070 build, starting with nothing.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/kfqGcc

What do you guys think? Am I maximizing the GPU? I think I"m going to go with the 1440p/60fps monitor.
>>
I'm thinking about selling my 4790K and replacing it with a 5775C (since it's faster than 4790K and 6700K clock for clock at gaming), thing is I heard it's a shit overclocker. I'm hoping to get 4.4GHz out of the chip but that seems really hard to do.
>>
>>55951561
Doom runs pretty well. Vulkan gave me a 65 fps average, 40 fps low, 81 fps high.
This is with an fx 8350. It's pretty much the most demanding fps on the market RN.
>>55951598
Almost exactly the same list put together for an imaginary 1070 build. Don't buy Founder's cards though. The usb wifi dongle kinda sucks too.
Evga acx3.0 1070 will look great in a B/W theme build.

As this is my first time building a PC and I admittedly have money to burn, how future proof is this build? One of the main things I was going for when picking the parts is picking the best possible parts with my money on the parts that matter (such as the graphics card) so I don't have to worry about upgrading it for years to come.

TL;DR: I just want to build the PC and be done with it, only have to worry about maintenance such as reapplying thermal paste on the processor if necessary I suppose.
>>
>>55951911
Might spring for 32 gigs of ram just for the hell of future proofing. Other than that if you really have money to burn just sli 1080s.
>>
>>55951911
I have a non-chroma blackwidow and i don't really like it. Overpriced like crazy. You can get good mechanical kb's for $90.
>>
>>55950493
Thanks for the tip. What do you suggest?
>>
>>55951963
I'll consider upping the RAM since sticks are getting cheaper apparently? Also what's the purpose of having more than one graphics card? For 4K gaming?

>>55951999
Yeah I considered getting a cheaper mechanical keyboard. I admit I was drawn to its rainbow lights and liked the sound of the clicks but then after doing a bit of research, I found out that there's no "extra features" such as a volume knob and/or a mute button which I surprisingly found useful on my brother's keyboard.

Got brands you'd recommend?
>>
>>55952071
If you want clicky keys and a volume knob, go for a DAS KEYBOARD. If you want flashy lights, you could go for a Ducky Shine.

Also, spend the extra on a better CPU Cooler, like the Noctua NH-D15.
>>
>>55952071
I don't, but find /mkg/ in the catalog. They'll point you in the right direction. They might call you bad names first.
>>55952010
Evga stuff is my personal choice, but rosewill and antec are great too. You can get away with 550w on that list btw. Probably even 500 desu.
>>
>>55952096
Thanks for the suggestions, I'll go check them out.

>Also, spend the extra on a better CPU Cooler, like the Noctua NH-D15.

I remember I posted an earlier build on an older /pcbg/ thread a week ago and I had the Corsair H100i on it and an anon suggested that I don't need to spend that much on a cooler.

However I just looked up the Noctua NH-D15 and it's a bit cheaper than the Corsair cooler so I'll keep it in mind.

>>55952139
>They might call you bad names first.

I'd be disappointed if they didn't honestly considering my new-ness :^)
>>
>>55952071
Great. What do you think of my build here >>55951101? Can I run old fps games like TF2 at good fps level for a 144 Hz screen? Not nevessarily on ultra settings, med settings would be more thna enough to me.
>>
>>55952256
160+ fps maxed out tf2
>>
>>55952071
Not necessarily for 4k gaming. With an i7 and 2 gpus that powerful, plus 32 gigs of ram? Unless something fails that pc will be good for a pretty good while.

What's the general opinion of an sshd? I'm making a mITX build with around $850 (excluding monitor, keyboard and mouse), and an sshd fits in that budget. However, I heard ssd's go on sale a lot, and will eventually lower in cost over the next year or so.

So, is it worth getting an sshd, or just wait for an ssd? Are ssd's that much better?

I'm building a system around an i5 6600K. Which means buying DDR4 RAM.

How much does RAM speed matter in this day and age? It seems that the price only increases a bit from DDR4-2133 up to DDR4-3000, and then starts getting more expensive? How much is worth paying for?

Use case: I intend to overclock, but only moderately (I'm aiming for 4.0GHz) I remember reading that RAM speed affects the integrated graphics more than other things. I might use that, but if I do it'll only be for a spare monitor, so it doesn't need to be fast. I'd prefer to spend only $60-70 or so on the RAM (16GB of it. Sure, sure, memes) but I could go up to $100 or so if it makes a significant difference. I play vidya gaymes, but that's not my only concern, I also fuck around in VMs and edit RAW photos.
>>
>>55952406
Ok, 160 fps might be a slight exaggeration. It'll probably float between 125 fps and that. Game is 9 yrs old bruh.
>>
>>55952497
It's already very high, considering it's maxed out. I'll probably play TF2 at med settings with gibs and ragdolls disabled anyways.

The i5 6600K has a great igpu from what a hear, probably not on level with the rx470 or the gtx1080, but if you won't be doing anything with heavy graphics than you should be fine.

As for the case I recommend the Corsair 200R ATX. It's cheap, looks sleek, and comes with a fan and multiple other places for you to mount fans.

LGA1151 motherboards a bit pricey, you could always go microATX and go cheaper though. I'm not an expert on motherboards so if any anons have better advice for this guy please tell him.

You could also switch your cpu to a LGA1150 one, and switch to an i5-4690K with cheaper motherboard options with only a slight decrease in performance. The only issue with that is you're more limited in terms of upgrades since the newer and better stuff will come out for the newer LGA1151 more often.

Hey guys, I really want more graphics power. I want to be able to maintain 144 FPS in BF4 multiplayer while cranking the resolution scale up through supersampling to make everything look sharper at 1080p.

My question is should I buy another 380 or 380x for crossfire or hold out for a high end card? I really want this PC to be able to crush new games.
>>
>>55956147
xfire 380's will only push about 100fps 1080p max
>>
>>55955413
I guess these stats are normal?
>>
>>55956334
BF4 multiplayer frames per second are different than the FPS measurements that are posted on review sites. As it is, I already can achieve 100-144 fps on most multiplayer maps with a single 380. Obviously I can't crank the resolution scale up in multiplayer while maintaining FPS. BF4 multiplayer has received insane performance optimizations over the years that aren't reflected in tech review benchmarks whatsoever.

$2k budget, I'm probably gonna wait on a 1080 hybrid which is why I have no GPU included. Upgrading from a 3570k/GTX 670 build. Already have a mouse and monitor but my keyboard killed itself so I'll probably have to buy a new mechanical later. Any improvements? I'm not necessarily looking to spend my entire budget, but I'd like something that will last me five years playing at 1440p and do VR.

Currently running a pretty budget build from like 4 years ago (pic related), just started a new job so looking at getting things updated.

Would a 1060 be bottlenecked by this mobo and CPU? Specifically looking at pccasegear.com/products/36001/asus-rog-geforce-gtx-1060-strix-gaming-oc-6gb (obviously an Aussie, so stop and check yourself before you start posting Newegg links).

Or would a 960 even be enough (980s are still far too expensive over here to be worthwhile)? Failing all of that, should I just kinda update my mobo and CPU and essentially build a whole new PC?

Need help on deciding GPU, and does the rest of the PC look good?

I'm currently using an AMD 7850 (overclocked) and an i5 3570K - I'd like to see a significant performance increase. Cant quite afford the 1070's, so guessing either 480/1060. I really didn't like Sapphire (unless they've gotten better?), what other brands are better (any UK-based ones for returns, or am I asking too much?)

Also, I'd be fine with recycling the 3570K, but I wanna downsize to M-ATX or smaller, so I need a new mobo. What's the potential options here? Can I only buy mobo's from years ago? Would it just be easier to just go all new?

Also, I'm looking for a new monitor too. Think I'll stick with 1080p, so what's the "go to" recommended budget orientated monitor? With VESA mounts as the only exception.

Thanks.
