Okay, I've been having a problem for a while. First smart phone, used to just use flip phones, finally decided to upgrade a little over a year ago. I was a retard and got a Galaxy S6 Edge.

For the past couple months, I've had an issue where I hit the max storage space and stuff stops working. Repeatedly. Like, four times this year. The last two times it has happened were the worst. A month ago, I deleted about ten gigs of pictures and some change, and about eight of Spotify offline downloads. That freed up about 20gb, give or take. The phone has 64 total.

So, this week, does it again. I just get disgruntled and ignore it. This morning, it's full. Plug it in, LITERALLY 0 bytes available, thing is basically bricked.

Not only have I not filled up 20 fucking gigs in the last month, or so I think, I know for DAMN sure that, during eight hours of sleep while I was sleeping and the phone was charging, I did not download anything, receive any messages, etc.

In the system memory page, the part with the most storage use is Apps, coming in at like 46 gigs. Now, I didn't count by hand, but I can't imagine all of the 100mb and lower shovelware that came on the phone combined with like the maybe 15 other apps I downloaded and frequently use combine to that amount of space.

What the hell is up with my phone's memory? What is eating it up so seemingly fast with seemingly zero input? Has anyone else run into this before?

Never buying a phone with an internal memory and internal battery ever again, and NEVER buying anything Samsung ever again. Fuck this shit.
>>
Does anyone here have the Huawei P9 Plus? Thinking about sending my Oneplus3 back and get the P9 Plus.

The camera is very cool and the EMUI interface seems like the kind of interface I would prefer over shitty stock android. In most comparisons also the P9+ seems to be faster than the OP3 in day to day use (app loading especially).
>>
Alcatel idol 3 or Galaxy J5?

I'm about to buy Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro.
I can't decide between 2/16gb and 3/32gb versions. Price diffrence is around 45$ for me (I'm buying from retrailer in Poland, for quick delivery). For price diffrence I could get accesories like film, case and piston headphones.

Is there a big diffrence in performance? I'm buying this phone to get replacement for lumia to play pokemon and do some decent photos.
>>
Any news on the new Nexus?

Are they gonna be gud or does HTC screw it up as usual?

I can already see the battery and the cameras being subpar compared with other flagships.
>>
I don't need the latest and greatest. What are the best budget smartphones (they can be older ones that are still good)

>>
>>55914629
No, it would stay on, and would say it cannot launch any apps, receive calls, anything other than look at storage. Plugged it in and deleted another batch of photos for like 3 gigs and then cleared Spotify again, only got like 7 total.

As a storage device recognized by Windows, however, it showed as 0 bytes available.

Anybody unlocked the bootloader on their snapdragon redmeme note 3?

I've been trying but keep getting the error in pic related.

I'm running the lastest global dev rom.
I've got unlock permissions for my account and I'm also logged into that account on the phone.
I turned on USB debugging and oem unlock from the dev settings.

But it still won't work. Any ideas?

A lot actually since your phone keeps looking for signal and it drains the battery fast.

>>55914725
Well no one here has bought Huawei phones other than the 6p and that doesn't really count so you gonna have to take the plunge and tell us.
>>
>>55914840
You can only unlock your bootloader if you are on a Developer ROM. If you are on China/Global Stable, you can update to China/Global Dev via the Updater app or the Mi PC Suite, otherwise you will have to flash via MiFlash/EDL.

After that, connect your phone to your PC and enter fastboot mode (hold Power and Vol-) and follow the instructions in the unlocker.

I assume this is about the N5x... The camera is amazing in my opinion. Coming from the N6 it's a huge step up and probably the best thing about the phone. It should be a pretty solid upgrade from the N5. It doesn't have wireless charging, but I've already considered wireless charging a meme, especially considering quick charging exists. I don't see it's longevity begin to much of an issue either. It's not like android is going to just suddenly get performance heavy and with it being a Nexus it'll have updates for a while.
>>

I'm the guy looking at the 5x, I'll agree that wireless charging is kind of a meme. You have to set your phone down so you may as well just plug it in. I would save for that one honestly. 1GB of ram is going to be depreciated very soon. Although Moto G3 is pretty lightweight and not bloated, phones that have 2GB or 3GB and heavy roms run very bad. I'd say buy spending the extra ~$30 and make it last longer.
If you really want a phone that will last, RAM is becoming more of an issue than the CPU.

Hi /spg/

I am looking for a new android smartphone, and need some help.

I currently have a 6 year old pos running some ancient version of android, and it is becoming unusable, and I want to upgrade.

My price range is $300 or less, and I'm on T-Mobile.

So far, I've looked at the Samsung Galaxy S5 and Nexus 5, and they both look pretty good hardware-wise.

What would you guys recommend for this price range? If possible, I would like to stay away from chinkphones.

Are there any other good phones for this price?

Also, exactly how bad is the TouchWiz UI? If I go with a Galaxy phone, will it be useless without a custom rom?

I've been out of the smartphone loop for a couple years now, and there are a lot of choices to choose from.

Any advice is greatly appreciated
>>
>>55921235
RN3P works on T-Mobile and absolutely shits on the Nexus 5 and S5, like a doubling, and it's less than $200. Suit yourself?
>>
>>55921337

>>
What's the best ROM available for the Z3 Compact?

If it's just the Sony one, which version? Marshmallow, or one of the previous iterations? I don't care about being current so much as I am about using whatever's best for my phone, even if it's lollipop or kitkat.
>>
Why do people buy anything but Xiaomis?
>>
>>55921337
>RN3P
Is that the "Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro"?
I've never heard of that brand before, but I'll definitely take a look into it.

I'm a little wary of that company, because I've had some unfortunate experiences with Chinese manufacturers in the past.

Can any anons with Xiaomi phones weigh in on its reliability and build quality?

>>55921413
Will take a look at it, thanks.
I don't know much about phone CPU's, but how does the "Snapdragon 617" compare to the "Snapdragon 800"? Would I notice the difference if I don't play any games?
>>
>>55921235
>>55921556
Also, I would greatly prefer a phone with a smaller screen.

My current phone has a 4 inch screen, but I don't really want something that is 6 inches, that is just too huge for me.

Are there any phones that have a good screen with good specs that are not of chinese companies and have a small screen, for under $300?
>>
>>55921517
>>55921556
I've personally bought 4 Redmi 3S for my family while I'm using an RN3P. I don't see a point to other brands. Once you change the ROM they're excellent. Bootloader unlock is account wide so I instantly unlock and flash the xiaomi.eu ROM which is basically the same as the global ROM but even more stipped down.

Everyone is using MIUI without issue. Literally bought my entire family all great phones with cases for $500
>>
>>55921556
>RN3P
It's a good phone but lacks some bands compatibility in the USA.

SD800 is a little faster than SD617 but it's an older generation. .
GPU on SD617 is newer Adreno 405 vs Adreno 330.

Battery life on the N5 is horrendous.

>>55921596
It's not 6", it's 5.5". there aren't many phones today that go below 5". Sony Z3/5 compact are 4.7".
>>
>>55921610
I see, that sounds pretty good.

Out of curiousity, which ROM do you prefer?

It seems to be a little under $200 on Amazon. Is there any place to get it cheaper?
>>
Whats with Xiaomi stupid names?
Mi are high end, Redmi Note are phablets and Redmi are low-med?
>>
So what's the deal with the Axon 7? Is it actually as good as the specs say it is, at its pricepoint? What reasons are there not to get one as compared to another phone with similar audio quality?
>>
>>55921678
RN3P has the best support. It has official cm13, i haven't tried cm13 since it became official but it was unstable a month ago. I use SMIUI roms which are a customizable version of the stock rom.

The camera and battery life is better on stock rom plus I like miui's data restrictions/firewall functions as well as permissions management. I just replace the launcher with Nova and call it done.

Would recommend getting 3gb version, but my family members all have 2gb Redmi 3s without lag issues. Everyone loves the battery life.
>>
>>55921697
Mi is flagship
Redmi is budget

Mi Note = flagship phablet
Mi = flagship
Redmi Note = budget phablet
Redmi = budget

Only one that doesn't make sense is Mi Max because it's a Redmi Note 3 Pro with a bigger screen. I guess "Redmi note 3 pro max" was too much.

Big Samsung fa here. I've used Samsung since the days of flip phones. Rugby II was my last flip phone, went from that to an S4, to an S5, to a Note 3. But I recently updated again and went with a Nexus 6P. The latest Samsung models are just too laden with bloatware, and I'm too scarey to try rooting yet. I like the phone so far. The screen is vivid and has excellent resolution, the battery seems good so far, and I like how it feels more solid. I like "heavier" phones, ever though it's as slim, if not slimmer than my old phone. The only thing I don't like I.... USB C. I did not see that coming. I play DS and PSone emulators on my phone, and now I can't move then from my laptop to my phone. Damn. I'll just have to order a USB C to micro adapter for now. Ah well.

It'll probably be another two, three years before I update again. Who knows where smartphones will be by then.
>>
What is the advantage of the 6P over the OP3? The Housefire 810 isn't doing it any favors and the 5.7 screen counters out the better OLED for me.

I don't know why people keep recommending it over the OP3, even though the 1+ has a cheaper screen. Besides, $400~ for a 32GB 6P or $400 for a 64GB OP3. I think the only thing I like more about the 6P is that its finger print scanner is in the correct spot.

I'm planning on switching from my iPhone 6 to a S7 Active this weekend, but if you are not a fellow cuckold of AT&T you would have to opt for one of the other options (base/Edge) which I think are less appealing, personally
HTC10 is obviously your other non-iPhone choice of totally-non-iPhone phones, and it's a good one if you don't care about the waterproofing (HTC's included 1 year warranty looks pretty forgiving anyways, and I figure if you're planning on swapping back to Apple within the next couple years, that'll be all you need anyways)
TouchWiz is trash, HTC's shell is slightly less trash, if you want ZERO trash you gotta go with the 6P

actually it probably does charge and transfer files simultaneously at 5V normally without quick charge, USB3.1 is disabled by default because it apparently interferes with communication for whatever reason.

Only advantage to USB-C on it at the moment is being able to hook it up both directions which is not a big deal.

If anything USB mini was easier to take out, USB-C is too tight and requires a fair amount of force to pull out.

So I had a Nexus 4 some time ago.

Recently I've been playing with it more for giggles as it doesn't work on my carrier (vzw, no chance of changing carrier for a variety of reasons)

I forgot how flawless this phone works. Specs are so much less than the S5 and G3 I've had after it and yet it shames those phones. No freezes, quick response, easy root and custom options, Hell it even gets better battery life than the G3 (3000 battery to power a fuck terrible screen) which is fucking sad considering its not that great on battery either.

So as a result I'm really considering getting a Nexus 5x, does it live up to the legacy? With perhaps a decent camera and passable battery.

Changing from samsung note 1 to mi5 prime. Should last me to 2025.

Just bought a redmeme 3s.
What do I do with it? How do I into android?

I don't know, the same things I do with my PC, but outside of my basement?
I want a botnet-free device to browse 4chins and watch chinese cartoons with, and maybe use it for when I work out my fat ass too.

I need a new phone that

>Name me a phone that runs on android and is as lag free as the iPhone even after 1 year
That's pretty much every Android phone with 4GB of RAM. iPhones will start to lag hard after a while because it constantly runs out of RAM. That iPhone 7 better have 4GB of RAM else it's gonna become another irrelevant memephone as WP.

Also see pic related.
>>
>>55930766
Recently upgraded from my S5 to the OP3 and oh boy, what a difference.

The Marshmallow update made my S5 unusable, with random reboots happening at least once a day.

Probably a software issue you won't encounter if you run a custom ROM, but it's still a risk.

Chink phones FTW.

>>55930673
iphones don't run smooth after a year, especially if during that year there was an os upgrade
the animations just do a fucking amazing job of hiding shit from the average dumbass
that being said, the nexus 5 still performs really well
my s3 is also doing great on cm13
>>
>>55930794
Bullshit.
Watch all Samsung phones getting rekt after a year.
They all go terrible ram management.
Even the iphone 6 handles ram more efficency than the s7
>>
>>55930778
Best camera under €150? Kek

Bump your budget to €250 and get the 5X.

Or get the third gen Moto g if €150 is really your limit.

S7 and HTC 10 are better.
>>
>>55930802
Really? I mean 400 dollars wouldn't be that much of an investment.

Probably a Moto G4

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01GZZK9XQ

Just install Nova launcher from google playstore and make the app icons a little big. Most old people have trouble using phones because their eyesight isn't as good as it was 20 years ago.
>>
>>55930838
not the best camera on the market, the best you can get for 150€
>>
I'm always tempted to get a Samsung because they started to look nicer over the years. Still afraid because of touchwizz.
Want I want is a phone with a big screen that is basically a powerhouse.
Price does not matter.
I was looking into the note 7 (looks promising), the nexus 6p, the OP3 and maybe the new iPhone.
Suggestions?
>>
>>55930831
>Watch all Samsung phones getting rekt after a year.
Yeah because old models only had 2GB of RAM to work with.

>They all go terrible ram management.
It's not that. Blame it on app and web devs, they've been slowly bloating up their shit over time. This happens on Android AND iOS web pages/apps.

>Even the iphone 6 handles ram more efficency than the s7
Nope, both handle RAM about the same. However in the long run it will take longer for the S7 to lag because of how much RAM it has.

Anyway that's just one of the reasons people never take iPhones seriously. Most want good battery life and expandable storage and the iPhone can't deliver.
>>
>>55914707
>Konmari
Not that's not a name I thought I'd see on /g/.
>>
>>55930892
>Blame it on app and web devs
Web devs are actually pretty good at this shit, granted you aren't visiting these massive wordpress powered pieces of shit with a bunch of useless plugins they don't really use or these ad infested hellholes.
App devs on the other hand, jesus fucking christ it's like they have zero idea what the fuck they're doing. Pokemon Go is one of the worst fucking apps I've seen so far. How it got so popular when it is so bloated and performs like shit is beyond me.

Even though google themselves puts out videos every so often on how to better handle tasks, devs still don't give a fuck. So, RAM is forever fucked unless google cracks the whip over at the play store.
>>
>>55930892
Consider that in the long run iphones outperform Samsung devices.
They all look promising on paper but after a year that specs turn into nothing while iphone have much better software/hardware synergy.
It's not just a phone to brag about. Alot of people buy it because they know what they're getting and most of the time it's good
>>
>>55930883
>Still afraid because of touchwizz.
touchwizz hasn't been a problem since like the S5 but people love to make a rucus over nothing. The only thing that lags a little is the touchwizz launcher which can easily be replaced by the Nova launcher.

>Want I want is a phone with a big screen that is basically a powerhouse.
Then get an exynos Samsung S7 phone.

>I was looking into the note 7 (looks promising), the nexus 6p, the OP3 and maybe the new iPhone.
Never consider an iPhone, they lack tons of useful features and have shit screens and battery life. Anyway the Exynos Note 7 and S7 are probably your best choices.

>>
>>55930883
The only reason you should not like samsung these days is locked bootloaders. Everything else is pretty top notch.

I'd recommend waiting for both the note 7 and the nexus sailfish (its codename right now). When they both release, then you can decide. Unless you're in a rush and want a phone like now, in that case go with the 6p.
>>
>>55930950
Mostly because no one really cares about blasting music loudly except black people and they don't exactly have the means to hold up a high end market.
>>
>>55930535

>>
>>55930961
Well my s4 is still working but I'm not that happy with it. I think I can wait until at least the end of this year
>>
>>55930932
>Consider that in the long run iphones outperform Samsung devices.a
But they don't. In the long run they begin to lag faster than an Android phone with 4GB of RAM.

>They all look promising on paper but after a year that specs turn into nothing while iphone have much better software/hardware synergy.
They don't. Why do you think Android has ~90% smartphone market share right now? Even poor people can afford $1,000+ iPhones with their credit cards/contracts but they refuse to buy them.

>It's not just a phone to brag about. Alot of people buy it because they know what they're getting and most of the time it's good
Most of the time they have buyer's remorse because of the problems mentioned in >>55930794

Look man iPhones suck and nobody wants them anymore especially since they've become an icon pf homosexuality. Just accept that and move on.
>>
>>55930939
Will changing the launcher improve the overall performance?
I remember my friend once rooting my phone and applying some custom shenanigans to it. It was a lot faster but my Internet didn't work anymore so he had to undo it.
>>
>>55930999
Yeah, well by then all the major phones should be out and you should be able to make your decision, or at least come back and ask for help when we actually know more about the upcoming nexus/iphone/note.
>>
>>55930778
Splurge and get her a nexus 5x with a bumper case. Not sure if Google Fi is in europlace you can get the phone for $199 ameridollars if you sign up for Fi which is only like $30 a month
>>
>>55931022
The launcher may help improve perceived performance (animations play a big role here), but it won't objectively improve it as much as rooting + flashing a rom or at least some xposed modules. Which is what your friend probably did.
>>
>>55931026
Awesome.
Is there anything I can do now that will atleast make my phone slightly more useful than it is right now in terms of performance?
>>
>>55931048
Factory restore
>>
>>55931022
>Will changing the launcher improve the overall performance?

It will but mostly just for launching and switching between apps. It won't magically make your CPU/GPU perform better. If 1337 CPU performance is what you want then get an exynos S7.

>>
>>55931087

>no micro sd slot
>>
>>55931048
Factory restore/reset. Uninstalling bad apps. Flashing cm13.
If you're not into resetting your device completely or flashing cm13 for longevity, you should at the very least go through and uninstall any apps you don't use much but are hogging your resources like battery. For instance, facebook is really easy to get rid of and then just using the mobile site, although I don't know how facebook performs these days since I haven't installed it in a long time.
>>
I still don't get all the hate that the iphones getting.
They may be pricy, true. But IOS isn't that bad of an OS. I've had lots of experience with Samsung devices. Mostly s4/5/6 and the iphone devices of the same year were always running smoother
>>
>>55931108
Difference you can't even see from normal using distance.
Battery life, I don't know. I can get 4-5 SOT and that's pretty fine for me.
Sure if you need more than 64 you better look for something else. Btw most people don't even use 32.
>>
>>55931108
What's with this 1440p hype anyways.
I mean it's a damn phone. Screen quality is not always about resolution
>>
>>55931087
>best phone overall available to purchase
The 6P is cheaper here and better so I'd have to disagree. Maybe in other markets though.
>>
what is an similarly priced phone to the Oneplus 3 that allows MicroSD support?
>>
>>55931142
>What's with this 1440p hype anyways.
It literally looks better than 1080p. I went from a Note 3 to a Note 4 and noticed improved screen quality.

>I mean it's a damn phone. Screen quality is not always about resolution
If it wasn't then we'd still be stuck using 240p screens. While accurate colors are important, smooth and crisp text are also pretty important.

I can't describe the bliss I get from reading books on my Note 4.
>>
>>55931188
>"You think you're buying like a Kingston or a SanDisk but you're actually not, and they're extremely poor quality, they're slow, they sometimes just stop working, and it gives people huge number of issues, apps crashing all the time, users losing data, a lot of basically complaints and customer frustration. It's gonna be a while before you finally accept that maybe the reason why it's not performing is because you put in an SD card, right? You're gonna blame the phone, you're gonna blame the manufacturer, you're gonna shout and scream and try to get it fixed, so many different ways until you say, 'Actually, let me just take the SD card out and see what happens.'"
>>
>>55930982
You can blast music just as well with a loud rare-facing speaking, no? Having a front-facing speaker is, as I see it, more about watching video comfortably without having to crank the volume up.
>>
>>55931188
Axon 7

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01FUF1EL8

Has better screen and battery life too.
>>
>>55931207
Okay I get your point. But what can you expect from a 400 dollar phone anyways. The specs seem to be alright atleast.
Another question, is the note series genuinely better than the galaxy s line?
I heard they last longer
>>
>>55931207
>It literally looks better than 1080p.
>I can't describe the bliss I get from reading books on my Note 4.
Have you used a high-end AMOLED 1080p screen to compare? Also, do you know what "diminishing returns" is?
>>
>>55931225
That's why you always buy Samsung micro SD cards. I keep telling people but they don't listen.

I've through a 32GB, 64GB and 128GB Samsung evo micro SD card with 0 problems.
>>
Does any one recommend any good game boy/Nintendo emulators that aren't heaps of shit?

Im running 5.0, hopefully be up and running on 6.0 if I can get TWRP flashed.
>>
>>55931254
>Another question, is the note series genuinely better than the galaxy s line?
Depends if you enjoy using a stylus or not.

>I heard they last longer
They do but just 1-2 years more. This is because they have better SoCs and are able to cool them due to sheer size of the phone itself.
>>
>>55931240
not available in the uk as it seems
>>
>>55931325
I actually think a stylus is even more convenient in some situations.
So the note 7 is worth a look?
>>
>>55931325
>They do but just 1-2 years more. This is because they have better SoCs and are able to cool them due to sheer size of the phone itself.
What the actual fuck is this crap? Yeah top line SoC sure is better than a crappy one after few years but the cooling...
>>
>>55931355
>So the note 7 is worth a look?
Maybe, I'm not too sure. Spec-wise it's not much of an improvement over the Note 5 except the added micro SD slot but it comes with an exynos SoC by default so sustained performance will be very good.
>>
>>55930778
panasonic cm1.
>>
>>55931436
Aw man. I'm kind of a fag when it comes to decisions (mostly because my s5 disappointed me).
I just can't wrap my head around which device to buy because I don't wanna end up with another shitphone.
That's why I'm kinda liking apple. Only had good experiences. But Android in general was fine!
I should get a data plan where I get a new phone every year honestly
>>
>>55931285
I just want to store my pictures, videos and FLAC files
>>
>>55931403
>What the actual fuck is this crap? Yeah top line SoC sure is better than a crappy one after few years but the cooling...
The cooling part is surprisingly true. A bigger phone means more heat can be dissipated from the processor and less throttling will occur over time. This is one of the main reasons why the Note 4 got a 2.7 GHz snap oven and the Galaxy S5 got a 2.5 GHz snap oven.

Anyway I'm talking from experience too. I used to have both those phones and my S5 was always getting hot and laggy over time. My Note 4 did significantly better despite having to power a 1440p screen.
>>
>>55931506
So why did the S5 disappoint you?
>>
>>55931537
Yeah but that doesn't change over time.
>>
How good do white cases look on black phones?
>>
>>55931506
>Aw man. I'm kind of a fag when it comes to decisions (mostly because my s5 disappointed me).
You probably got the snap oven version which was pretty bad.

>I just can't wrap my head around which device to buy because I don't wanna end up with another shitphone.
Just make sure to get a phone with an Exynos SoC. Qualcomm has been releasing raging pocket fires and there seems to be no end in sight.

>That's why I'm kinda liking apple. Only had good experiences. But Android in general was fine!
Apple has problems of its own and in the long-term an Android phone is always better.

Anyway just get an Exynos SoC phone like I said. They stay cooler longer and give your phone better battery life. The Note 7 will probably keep you happy for at least 2-4 years to be honest especially since it will not come in a snapdragon pocket SoC variant.

tl;dr fuck qualcomm
>>
>>55931542
Battery life was awesome, camera is nice too. But it got so slooow. (Did a factory reset a couple of times, always updated and have little to no apps installed).

The S5 is completely unlocked now, so there shouldn't be an issue with performance. Except that it has only like 2gb of RAM and an older SoC. Other wise it still works like a dream.

It is however the worst looking and worst feeling device I've ever used. Even with a case it still feels terrible in hand. And the home button/finger scanner is just not designed well.
