It was, but there's no real need to run Mint anyway.
The Cinnamon DE is the best thing about it and you could install that on any other distro.
The rest of what makes Mint Mint is a handful of tools like their system updater and driver installer.

Updates are important.
Bugs in the kernel is very likely a security risk.
Mint has different tiers of updates, marking kernel updates as unstable, meaning they advice people to stick with an old (possible insecure) kernel because it might cause problems.
This mentality is dangerous.

If you are afraid of updating your system because it might break, then you are less likely to patch your system.

A good example of this is when the mint site got hacked and someone put malicious software in the iso's.
The reason this hack happened was a mix of using bad defaults and not updating the software.

If you install mint, you are the kind of person who wants to install a linux distro, leave it for half a decade.
You are probably one of those who used windows xp or 7 until the end and a bit thereafter.
You are using linux because it is more convenient.
It is not because of the rapid development.
It is not because of ideology.
It is not because of security.
