I have some new piece of shit wireless adapter that won't fucking work. BrosTrend ac600. Their only tech support contact is an email, and their phone number looks like a Chinese number, I can't reach it with my phone.

Nothing about this fucking works. Installing and uninstalling drivers frequently hangs and fucks up. The PC won't shut down without it unplugged. Trying to disable it, reach My Devices and scan for new networks nearly always fucks up and hangs.

I can FUCKING SEE THIS PIECE OF SHIT listed in the Network Connections list, and it says it's diaabled. Trying to enable it takes a second, claims it is now enabled, and does nothing. I'm running windows 10 by the way.

What should I do? Send it back? Buy a different one? Is there some underlying problem in my windows installation? What do you guys use? Should I just wire a huge ass cable up to this room?

I'm fucking losing my mind. I think I'm a tech savvy guy, but this fucking USB stick is a nightmare.

Ever since I got a new modem, I've been having a few problems with the Internet.

Basically, 4chan already banned me twice for "use of a proxy/VPN node", when in reality I don't use either.

Aside from that, I have problems when trying to login to PSN. Even when the device is connected to the WAN, I won't be able to login until I reset the modem (I have a dynamic IP).

The only thing I tried was to disable the firewall from the modem config and it didn't work.

Please, if you even have an idea of what may be causing this, please tell.

Lately every device on my network has been having download issues. A device will start a download, then it will fail. This happens on my desktop, PS3 and Xbox 360. I suspect it's because of my router, but it's a N66RU and I haven't changed anything on it since I got it besides security stuff.

Every time I've had that problem with a router it's because it's getting overheated and shutting down. Unplug it, blow out the dust with a compressed air can, let it cool off for 30 minutes or so, and hook it back up. Make sure it has some space around it for ventilation.

If it DOES work you want to change your boot order in bios. If not then it could be a lot of things. You could try swapping out the sata cable to your drive in case that's it. You could have a driver error preventing the boot, or something in your windows boot files could be messed up, in which case you'd want to make a recovery disk and see if your windows installation shows up on it.

I figured it out. Apparently Speccy has trouble reading voltages from haswell and skylake. I used hwinfo64 and it worked out fine.

I'm in my second semester of my IT degree and all we've been taught so far is business shit and one class on circuit analysis. Is having business knowledge really that essential for all IT jobs now?

Well, I would double check that unplugging all extra drives and media doesn't help, then move on to rescue media. Doesn't really matter if it's USB or DVD. If you have a win7 installer around that works, or you can make a recovery disk with macrium reflect, or use the hirens bootcd. Go to your user folders, right click them one at a time (Desktop, My documents etc), properties>location>Move, make a folder somewhere on the HDD where you want them to be located. You can do it a few different ways. Hirens is basically a huge toolbox full of small utilities for solving just about any problem you could think of. so you don't have to have a ton of knowledge. Windows 7 is designed specifically for this task though, so if bandwidth isn't a concern you might as well go with it.

Does anyone even validate their results anymore?

I have discovered Article A made by Group 1 based on combining the results of their earlier Article B method with new data from another group's Article C was actually botched (tl;dr their processing ruined their data), so my advisor got me to write up a report on that to share with Group 1.

Researching the issue I discovered the original Article B, which was itself based on Article D from yet another group, was also botched in a slightly different way.

This morning I have discovered Article D was botched in itself as well.

It's like an edifice of errors heaped upon errors, how deep do I have to dig to find anything that was done correctly?

It's nothing fancy either, most of the errors are on the order of someone apparently fucking up sorting stuff in Excel and ruining the order of the samples.

One paper I'm looking at right now displays their results three times: once in a diagram in the main article, and twice in two supplementary tables (once on its own, the other is a comparison with earlier results). The problem is the three lists of the same results were each different in some places (scrambled row order in different columns...)

So I went back and look at their actual data only to discover that to not be consistent with any of the three ways they presented their results in the article.

The cherry on top is that I got there from another article which cited this one and that one managed to screw up the same data in another novel way.

Now I know my biologists, they most likely gave it to some grad student to laboriously copy everything line by line in Excel by hand, hence the random fuck-ups, misplaced row and column entries.

And we are talking about a reputable group from an Ivy League univeristy.

What if, instead of using a RAID aray for drive failure, I had 4 identical drives, and I used one each week overwriting the oldest backup each time, so I can go back to the old version in case the latest backup is somehow damaged?
