It is now. Search for HENkaku (team molecule (yifanlu, Davee, and a few others). WebKit kernel exploit which is pretty much a few days old. Still on-going but cool as fuck. Can edit game ROMs, save datas and shit. Check it out.
They are easy to develop for.
Portable.
Good quality screen. (For it's time, 1000's screen was good too. 2000's better, 3000's better than 2000 and GO/Street's is better than 3000 .)
Good build quality (except Street which is trash).
Comfortable.
Easy as fuck to install CFW (hell, even my grandma can install it)
Pretty much ready to go.
I can't see a reason for not buying.

There was some hard-mod prototypes like multi-FW or CFW installer for PSP but they were pretty much scrapped due to Pandora Battery's debut. So, pretty much all mods for PSP are soft.

I pulled out my GBA SP last year and tried to play a bit. Holy fuck the screen is so shitty by today's standards. It's not even worth it.

The memory cards are insanely overpriced. I'm surprised the chinks haven't made a dual micro SD card like they did for the PSP. I follow /hbg/ but I don't think it is fully hacked open like the PSP was.

They can not with today's tech. The Vita's card is smaller than a SD card and it's encrypted. But an adapter (cabled?) would be possible if HENkaku hack project progresses enough to decrypt Vita system files. PSP was lucky. It was not selling when it first launched. System files were un-encrypted. It was hacked quickly and it started to sell. But this is Sony, they will do anything to keep the customer away.

The only other thing I can think of is to possibly get some kind of homebrewed ftp server instead of their SD cards. I don;t think sony will pursue their handhelds any further with how the Vita went and I think this is their last one. We don't have any games coming out really anymore so we just wait for the good old brew to catch up.
