I would imagine many offices still have them around, you can't run a multipart form through a laser printer.

I don't know if the national office store chains carry ribbons, but you might try figuring out the calculus of sizable local organizations/businesses that have been around a while, and probably haven't modernized every detail of their operation, and local office supply places that might have a contract with them.

If you really want to go hipster, get a typewriter that uses fabric ribbons so you can reink them yourself.

What extras? I've made some money fixing and selling some, but unless you get an electric one with no cord or in need of belts or a weird ribbon or a manual one with no ribbon there aren't really any extras.

I got pic related for $100 bucks off craigslist.

It's a 1931 smith corona and everything works perfectly. I picked up a bunch of extra ribbons from office max. They don't sell the exact ones I needed so I just bought the red/black ones for a calculator and rerolled the ribbon on the original spools.

I keep it next to my computer for quick notes and stuff since I don't have a printer. Its also great for making shipping labels since I sell stuff on ebay
