the problem is that the people that would be interested in this are not going to be here

4chan used to have a larger variety in threads. now it's predictable and people don't want to break the norm so they all just blurt out old tropes like a parrot

Not the US but my country is getting so cyberpunk that is not funny. The government is literally run by CEOs and is making big bucks with their former/current corporations, from energy to medical supplies.

Social media is known to be populated by an army of trolls hired by the government to harass the opposition, uncovered by a consulting firm when a tv star got attacked on twitter for making a parody of the president.

Big media corporation has business with the government and started a witch hunt against dissent, with a pseudo-journalist/showman at the head to editorialize the media circus and all. Dissenting journalists and actors were fired on their channels when the conglomerate bought or took over other tv/radio channels or the state intervene.

The drones are more and more used, surveillance cameras are a big business since before the start of this corrupt government and now they even sell the footage to tv shows.

Lately the security minister (known to be the boss of one manager of these "troll centers") launched a retaliation on the social media "to prosecute any attempt of terrorism against the state, be joke or not". Thus far they apprehend some kids who did a joke and another guy, which is to be expected because even we are far away from terrorist attacks these arrests on cause for "public terror" are right after the tv star was attacked and made public his findings, so is all a scapegoat.

And now the government will use the social security database to send emails and phone calls "to keep the public informed about what the government is doing for the citizens". Which is a lie, all we get is junk email during elections, they do this since they were running in the capital. I myself had one of those emails so I'm not talking shit.

If there is a time when cyberpunk serves as a way to understand reality and to be prepared is now. But How? Any idea how can I survive this orwellian nightmare?

Help!

I missed you too, Anon <3
>>
>>55889638
I think the most important thing is to protect right now is your anonymity on the internet.

What ever happened to "never give out personal information on the internet"? Now in many cases you're forced to give out your credentials. This is an assault on freedom of speech. Anonymity is one of the most important things for being able to voice your opinions without fear of repercussion. This is why I love 4chan, it's like the final bastion of the old days of the internet.

I wonder how long it will be until this place falls as well. And then where do we go? I guess there's always room for us on the deep web
>>
>>55889921
I took less and less participation on social media when I saw this coming. The worst is not being able to express yourself without fear of retaliation, cripples every human contact.

One thing I didn't mention is that to get hired by the government people watch your history in the social media. Several reports about people actually getting fired for having certain political affiliation are known, so there is that.

I guess there is no escape so better to improve my online safety. Been using Linux but no encryption because though I was safe and free, but now this witch hunt.

Don't know how is doing the rest of the world but if is anything near this, fuck! Live under a rock and keep the mouth shut is not easy for many people, I bet there is going to be some harsh years ahead.

>Any techno-pagans here?
Despite been an atheist I am quite fond of stuff like techno-paganism and oriental philosophies. There is some sense to mysticism, like Unix philosophy using archetypes of magic.

>I'm suggesting you reach out to other activist groups
I've been in activist groups, mainly to teach poor kids and other humanitarian work. Abandoned all that when the corporatocracy came.

>ones that might be oppressed in the news or depicted as violent terrorists
Sadly non-violent groups are depicted as violent. Media knows they keep a low profile because they're more dedicated to humanitarian work than politics and keep busy.

>If you have some technical skill you could definitely be valuable to them
Ahead to that been learning sysadmin skills myself. But the corporatocracy is smart, they either bough or captivated geeks and skilled individuals to either support the government or be against dissenting groups, so these groups seriously lacks technically skilled individuals.

>>55890121

We live in a society that the moment you go outside you are subject to your actions being recorded and uploaded for the collective cringe/lulz of the community.

That could be a slightly overweight woman in a bad outfit. Or god forbid you have a conversation with someone and it is edited such that you look like an idiot.

You are on the world stage very literally the moment you go out in public. God forbid you're an older person playing Pokemon GO.

If I were Muslim, I sure as hell wouldn't feel comfortable going to masjid or interacting with any of the people there. So I would be a closet Muslim, just like there were closet Christians and Jews forever.

If I were a supporter of an unpopular political candidate, you can forget me ordering anything from the campaign. My postal worker sees "TRUMP PENCE 2016" and from that point on my packages are fucked with just for the hell of it. Now if you live in a condo with a front desk, it's even worse; now everyone sees you as a racist. Guess whose condo fee is going to go up first?

In the USA, government clearances do not ask (or at least didn't ask) for any social media accounts. Since I don't have one it would be tough to supply one. It's kind of silly anyway to think that WHITE PRIDE WORLDWIDE USER NO. 88 is going to use their real name.

I honestly don't think there's any way to fix this at all. Maybe just be prepared for the day someone creepshots your mom. . .or just turn the damned thing off.

Old govt had army of trolls too - not sure about current one.

Honestly best option would be to buy few old ships, tie them together in a bay of a favorable country.
Move somewhere else when it turns to shit.

Self sustainability is a problem - mostly with medicine as food could be farmed and fished on board, power could come from wave(not tide) generators along with fresh water, Internet connectivity would be a problem.. Worst of all - income source if the ships aren't self sustainable.

Last /cyb/ things I watched:

Until the End of the World - 1991

This is a love movie first and foremost. The 4 hour 30 minute version I watched is split into 3 parts. Most in your face cyberpunk happens in the first part. It's generally the noir type. In part 2 it gradually shifts into a post apocalyptic film with part 3 it's mostly sci fi. However contemporary themes take a stronger presedence so I don't if I can recommend.

Enter the Void - 2009

This movie isn't cyberpunk but shows a shift in the world towards low life. The visuals are remarkable but are many times ruined with too many overly pointless scenes. The acting isn't much good, also a lot of forced shock material. If you want cyberpunk don't watch, if you want low life watch.

Let's come up with a Normie Friendly counter meme to "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to worry about" and variations.

Rules to strengthen the new meme:
- Must be as short or shorter than the above
- Must be as simple or simpler than the above (normie friendly)
- Can't use the phrase free speech
- Can't use the phrase whistleblowing
- Can be counterable but countering it must not be too simple
- Must be convincing to normies who think their government is reasonably trust worthy despite its problems (a step below blind faith)
- Must be convincing to people who really believe that they have nothing to hide from the government

Feel free to make suggestions.
>>
>>55902608
yeah, that was years ago now

the game didn't have an agressive pre-release marketing campaign

it was meant for a niche audience and didn't try to be anything else

Now that the ones in charge had a smell of success they're going to overreach the boundaries of what the series is supposed to be

This is a pretty common trend in the media industry
>>
>>55902704
you can quote a certain someone and say

"Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say"

perhaps not the best counterargument as it would take time to explain and support but a good start
>>

They shouldn't know that you recorded it, but due to retards like you, they can check easily that you did record. Now let's hope the cops looking for you are nicer than the one you recorded.

Eh, I don't know, I'm terrible at this.

Hmm, maybe something along the lines of:

Okay, right here and now, tell me your darkest weirdest secret. Tell me something like how you maybe wanted to fuck your cousin and masturbated to the thought while she slept an arm's distance away from you. Something like that. Maybe something Oedipal you told someone in confidence? About maybe how you thought of how fuckable the pastor's daughter is, maybe?

You won't tell me because you don't want to, and luckily for you, you're not a robot. My information on my device is my business, and not yours, and I can choose not to share my shit if I choose not to, privacy is a basic human right.

Something like that?

>if you wouldn't want someone to permanently have access to the personal belongings in your locked desk drawer
this works well since it connects with the pre-digital age audience
It can also be supported by the fourth amendment

> Must be convincing to normies who think their government is reasonably trust worthy despite its problems
ask them if they consider an entity that has permanent access to their property reasonably trustworthy? it's a fact at this point proven on paper with the events of the last few years. It's not some obscure conspiracy theory

>Must be convincing to people who really believe that they have nothing to hide from the government
if they have nothing to hide they should be ready to fork over every personal detail of their lives that has been digitized, either by them or by another party associated to them.

If they claim they're comfortable with that you should check that you are indeed talking to a human being and not a mentally retarded chimpanzee

Serious question: are these geeks unionized? Many a revolution have been successful because the government forces - that is to say, the grunts, not their leaders like in a military coup - rejected their government's authority and let protestors have their way. I'm not saying you should go reverse NARC and commit treason, at least not if you can get caught for it. Just wondering if you've thought of this already.

Magnetic finger implants are the coolest "aug" currently, I think.
They're pretty simple, just a tiny neodymium magnet with a bio safe coating implanted under the skin on one of your fingertips.
Essentially, they let you physically feel magnetic fields by the tiny movement of the magnet. Useful for electricians, because you can sense if a circuit is live by just holding your hand close to it.
It also lets you tell if a metal is ferrous or not and might eventually have some utility as a computer interface or something.

Eventually I might get one, but I don't have any use for it at the moment. They're relatively risk free, which is nice. Even if you break the magnet or something you just cut your fingertip open again and take it out.
>>
>>55910443
They also prevent you from using certain touchscreens, and good luck ever getting on a plane or having an MRI
>>
>>55910522
Touchscreens won't be a problem if you don't get it in a finger you use for that, and I've heard metal detectors generally don't even pick them up similar to fillings or metal buttons.
If you need an MRI you can just remove it. Maybe put a card in your wallet or something that mentions it in case you get hit by a car and are unconscious, like people who are allergic to penicillin.

There was a copypasta floating around at one point which was basically a synopsis of the openrights article. Wish I'd saved it but it was basically:
Your not the one who decides if you have something to hide. You might be dropping your partner off at bootskooting at night your phone shows your in that area. The same area is also a prostitute hotspot. Your a middle aged white male, and are now being actively investigated.
Authority given will always be misappropriated. Today it's used for terrorists, tomorrow rapists, and before you know it used to investigate minor council infringement. Think of how tasers are used as torture devices, sorry for pain compliance when they were billed as a way to prevent deaths of using firearms.
Laws must be broken for society to progress. Drug reform wouldn't happen if people didn't break the law consume it and decide it isn't that bad. Drug reform also permits crucial medical research such as hemp oil. Other examples homosexuality and gay marriage reform. Woman's suffrage and right to vote. Segregation and apartheid.
There was a fourth point can't remember too drunk.

I'd paste the copypasta into every normie Web comments section if I could.

Even when you think you are not giving away info on the wired, just by solving captchas you help the bad guys. There still are bastions of free speech and intelligent discussions, but it is not on 4chan, nor on Reddit.
There still are places with no captchas and smart people but no one wants to talk about it. They are hiding it and it does not get media coverage. 4chan is popular, reddit is popular, but where popularity appears, the big companies always follow.
I would say wake up, but it matters not. Cyberpunk is obscured, maybe even intentionally, because it promotes freedom of speech and intelligent discussion.
Get off 4chan, it is not what it once was.
If you haven't heard about it, it doesn't mean it isn't good, it means corporations are not making money out of it.
You should look for other image boards. I am not saying which or where you should be looking for but we are in a cyberpunk thread, figure it out yourself.

You're too optimistic.

I'd like to think that as a rule of thumb, never create a /cyb/ general when all the /v/-tier faggots are out, such as when or after a new graphics card has been released.

Also, a lot of the original userbase isn't really - here - anymore. Creating these threads now has the potential for /cyb/ to get Septembered.

Still, though - it's nice to be here.

So when did you guys realize you were living in the future? For me it was the Snowden revelations-- shit sounded like real life Deus Ex. Even more spooky when I started following tech stories that weren't just clickbait:

>former U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, long seen as an intermediary between the U.S. and Chinese business communities, set up the Seattle meeting that included 30 executives, 15 each from top U.S. and Chinese companies, including Apple, IBM, Microsoft, Baidu, Alibaba (a Chinese e-commerce site), and Tencent (a Chinese Internet giant). During the meeting, Xi assured some of the largest players in his country’s economy that China will open up further to outside business. Although none of the executives were willing to discuss the contents of the meeting, an Internet forum later in the day revealed some of the concerns of other U.S. and Chinese tech players.

The geeks are scattered and dumbed down. Mass media made a "cultural war" to spread ignorance and anti-intellectualism to control people more easily. Heavy consumerist propaganda became the only technology related on the tv, shows like "the trojan" that encouraged to spread nihilism and ignorance on social media, History Channel became most favorite documentary channel. Not even tv channels broadcasting anime were left, they were bough out and replaced by old shows like Seinfeld. And editorials sold less and less magazines and other publication. No way to get news about technology or culture in traditional media, and the web was overrun by trolls as I already said.

S no, no escape from mass stupidification and no organized geeks. The only geeks left were generally convinced to think the blame was in the social movements and leftists that opposed mass media.

And just now, minutes ago, a judge ordered to arrest an old lady of 87 years old was leads a movement which asks for justice on the disappeareance of 30 thousand people during the former dictatorship of the 70's. Maybe tomorrow you'll see it in your local news, maybe not, but thousands went to defend the old lady. And she is not the only unfairly chased. A leader of an aboriginal movement was arrested months ago. We all know both cases are political, for example the aboriginal woman was sent to prison by a governor for making a protest, even when she had to be released they accuse her of money laundering and kept her preemptively under arrest, but no proof was found from that day on.

I could continue but you get the picture and I fear the troll is still monitoring and don't feel like talk to him.

Not him but I'll blog a little.

Junior math class I got a TI-84 (my dad drove dump trucks to the landfill and found a working one then gave it to me) and wound up getting tetris on it. All I did all period was play on the calculator.

We had to prep for standardized tests for 1 week but I had already taken the test so the teacher told me and a few other guys in the same boat to go to the computer lab and complete assignments related to whatever we wanted. I wanted to play tetris so I chose to go through the calculator manual and demonstrate different functions. I wrote up a little thing within the hour and the rest of the week I spent drawing/animating little scenes with their BASIC interpreter; I was immediately intrigued by the possibilities this programming offered.

Soon I was no longer playing tetris but accomplishing some really cool stuff with the calculator. After a couple weeks I had hit the limits of the calculator (can only save 10 images at a time etc).

Still amazed, I wished for something more powerful that I could use to continue making cool stuff - but all the better calculators were way too expensive and I gave up. Went home that day kind of bummed and logged onto my junkyard HP (my dad was awesome, got that for me when I was 10 and it even played Unreal Tournament after I upgraded it). I went online and looked for solutions to my problem but still found nothing.

I am ashamed to admit how long it took me to realize that I was using what amounted to a super calculator. Downloaded a BASIC interpreter and learned the basics of the graphics API and have been programming ever since.

Fuck, I made some super weird memes on that calculator. Had my buddies laughing and people kept trying to get me to make stuff for them on their calcs.

If you enjoyed remember to subscribe for more and as always smash that mf like button!

The TracerNeo site won't work with https. My bad. Will be fixed next thread.

So what's the most viable real-life deck which you can get? Surely you won't suggest a smartphone, fascist.

I had high hopes with PocketC.H.I.P's design until I found out it does fuck all, although it may be a good starting point to frankenstein.
The Dragonbox Pyra? Looks good but it's too way pricey and risky since I have no idea how shit it may be.

Why the hell are Mini-PCs so rare anyways, all we get are smartphones.

Get the GPD win and install gentoo on it.

Besides if you wanna do l33t h4x0r stuff you could easily get an older UMPC with the power of a potato and still be fine.

Anyhow modern UMPCs are a thing anon, you just need to lurk more.

Also the Pyra has the Pandora as a proof of quality, it was pretty scrappy but those old ass things are still kicking and outperform smarthphones in many things despite having weaker hardware than most of them.

I did not check out the GPD Win since
>Windows 10

But shit that's sleek, installing anything but Win10 would make it pretty fucking amazing and would fit my uses pretty damn amazingly as an all-in-one

Doing my homework now on UMPCs

just to fucking ask:
what do you expect to get from a pocketchip? I pre-ordered 2 cause I wanted the exposed pins a pocket sized case. Finally I can wifi and serial connect with a keyboard inside my very own pocket!

How about more on Cyberpunk stories?

A few of Neil Stephenson's short stories are on the net like
- Hack the Spew
- Jipi and the Paranoid Chip
- The Great Simoleon Caper

Also some consider Eudeamon (NSFW) to be Cyberpunk.

There is also the Usenet News groups news:alt.cyberpunk etc. mostly dead the archives have a lot of good stuff. Very old school.

You don't need to know programming, yet. Start with the basics...
>1. Learn how things work (encryption, protocols, VPN, etc...)
>2. Cyberpunk is a set of mind, a way of thinking and when enough people think and synchronize their minds, it becomes a culture. People start listening to certain type of music, watch certain movies, use certain software.
3. Just be part of it. Support it and embrace it.
4. AND THEN Learn to code and contribute if you want.
5. Be; A cyberpunk

Anyone read Altered Carbon-series?

The blood bath was a bit on the excessive for me but the world building and the plots were rather good.
